You can cancel Spotify Premium without deleting your playlists: Spotify says playlists and saved music stay on your account when it switches to Free. For most paid plans, Premium continues until the next billing date. Cancel a free trial, however, and the switch to Free is immediate. The steps and timing depend on who bills you and whether you manage a shared plan.

How to cancel a directly billed Spotify Premium plan

  1. Sign in to the Spotify account associated with the subscription.
  2. Open your account page and select Manage your plan.
  3. Select Cancel subscription and complete the confirmation steps displayed.
  4. Return to the account page and check the plan status and next billing date.

Spotify’s cancellation instructions describe this account-page process. Labels and available options may vary by region and billing route, so follow the details shown in your account.

When does Premium end after cancellation?

For an ordinary paid subscription, Spotify says Premium stays active until the next billing date, then the account switches to Free. The date shown in your account is the useful reference for your own subscription.

If you are in a free trial

Canceling a zero-priced free trial changes the account to Free immediately, rather than preserving Premium access until a later billing date. Spotify also says the canceled trial cannot be reactivated.

What happens to playlists and saved music?

Spotify says playlists and saved music remain on the account after it becomes Free. You can continue signing in and listening with ads. This is a plan change, not account deletion; it does not preserve Premium benefits such as ad-free listening.

Spotify’s plan-change guidance also says playlists, saved music, and settings are retained across plan changes.

Who needs to cancel your plan?

Billing or plan arrangement Who handles cancellation What to expect
Directly billed individual plan The subscriber, from the Spotify account page For a paid plan, Premium usually continues to the next billing date; playlists and saved music remain when the account becomes Free.
Family or Duo The plan manager cancels the shared plan. A member can remove only their own account. A member’s removal does not cancel the manager’s subscription. Spotify says accounts on a canceled Family plan move to Free; Premium benefits end at the next payment date.
Phone or internet provider billing The billing partner, using the contact details shown in the account Spotify does not give one universal partner cancellation process. Check the account’s Payment details for the partner link.

Family or Duo members

If you are a member rather than the manager, contact the manager to cancel the shared subscription. Using the cancellation steps as a member removes your account from the plan; it does not end the manager’s subscription.

Plans billed through a partner

Open Manage your plan and check Payment. If Spotify does not show a cancellation option, use the partner contact link displayed there to ask how to stop billing.

If you are still charged but Spotify shows Free

Spotify says a Free account has no Premium subscription or payment information associated with that account. A continuing charge may belong to another Spotify account. Sign out, then try signing in with other login details and check the plan and payment information on those accounts.
