Before accepting a long-term GPU cloud commitment, verify that the provider will deliver the right capacity when and where you need it, test your workload on the actual service, calculate the full-term cost under realistic utilization, and negotiate enforceable remedies and exit terms. A GPU model and an hourly rate are not enough: the order form, service-level agreement (SLA), and incorporated terms determine what you are buying.

How do I compare GPU cloud providers?

Compare offers against the same workload, capacity schedule, usage assumptions, and contract term. A lower list price may be a worse fit if it comes with less certain delivery, different availability remedies, more expensive data movement, or a harder exit.

  • Capacity: GPU model and memory, quantity, interconnect, region, start date, ramp schedule, and whether capacity is reserved, on demand, or interruptible.
  • Economics: all compute and non-compute charges, minimum commitments, unused capacity, and renewal or repricing terms.
  • Service protection: what the SLA measures, its exclusions, the claim process, and the remedy for a failure.
  • Workload fit: useful throughput, end-to-end runtime, reliability, platform compatibility, and operational effort in a representative test.
  • Operations and risk: support escalation, security and data obligations for the specific service and region, portability, and termination rights.

Use a common scorecard and keep evidence for each answer: the provider’s dated quote, the signed order form and incorporated terms, test results, and security documentation. Public product pages can describe options, but they do not establish that a provider can meet your demand or that a negotiated contract contains the same terms.

What should I check before signing a GPU cloud contract?

Specify the workload and success criteria

Write down whether the workload is training, fine-tuning, inference, rendering, or a mix. Set a performance floor and specify GPU model or equivalent, memory, quantity, interconnect, region and data-residency needs, expected utilization, start date, term, burst profile, and tolerance for interruption.

Make the proof of concept representative of production. Agree on success measures before the test, such as completed work per dollar, end-to-end runtime, data movement time, failure and retry behavior, and the operational effort required. A vendor benchmark is not a substitute unless its workload and method match yours.

Make capacity a written delivery commitment

Ask what capacity mechanism the offer uses and put the required configuration, quantity, location, delivery date, ramp schedule, and replacement policy in the order form. Establish what happens if capacity is late, unavailable, or materially different from the commitment. Do not treat a reservation window, on-demand access, or interruptible capacity as equivalent to dedicated capacity for the full term.

Capacity arrangement What to establish in writing Key exposure to evaluate
Reserved or dedicated capacity Specific configuration, quantity, location, delivery date, duration, and remedies for shortfall Whether payment continues for unused or undelivered capacity, and whether the provider can substitute hardware
Reservation window When the reservation can be used, its duration, eligible configurations, and how the reservation is confirmed Whether the reserved window matches the workload schedule and whether the commitment guarantees the capacity you need
On-demand capacity Availability expectations, pricing, and any applicable service terms Whether capacity will be available at peak demand or at the required start time
Interruptible or spot capacity Interruption notice, restart behavior, and any replacement options Work lost, checkpointing needs, and the effect of interruption on deadlines

For scale context, Amazon Web Services describes EC2 Capacity Blocks as reservations for specified accelerated instance families, cluster sizes, and time windows. Its product page states that blocks can be reserved for up to six months, in cluster sizes of one to 64 instances, and up to eight weeks ahead. These are AWS product details stated on a page accessed in 2026, not industry-wide limits; verify current availability and terms when purchasing. NVIDIA Vice President of HPC Computing Ian Buck has described the AWS offering as enabling customers to rent H100 capacity at dedicated scale. That is a vendor executive’s statement, not independent evidence of comparative cost or performance.

Calculate cost across the entire term

Model monthly and full-term spend under conservative, expected, and peak utilization. Include the committed GPU charge, minimum spend or take-or-pay exposure, unused capacity during ramp-up or quiet periods, storage and retained data, network transfer and egress, dedicated connectivity, support, deployment or migration work, taxes, and renewal exposure. Ask for a sample invoice and a price schedule covering the entire term, including repricing triggers.

CoreWeave’s public pricing page, accessed in 2026, illustrates how charges beyond compute can matter: it lists storage tiers, public IP charges, Direct Connect pricing, and some transfer fees as free. The page lists a $4.00 monthly charge per public IP and dedicated Direct Connect monthly prices of $1,250 for 10G, $12,500 for 100G, and $50,000 for 400G. These are published CoreWeave rates, which may change; they are not a long-term quote for your account. Confirm which line items apply to your architecture and obtain your negotiated schedule in writing.

One issuer’s 2026 SEC filing describes its own long-term take-or-pay contract model as a way to support investment in infrastructure, and says committed-contract pricing is generally fixed for the agreement and measured in dollars per GPU-hour. That is an issuer-specific description, not a standard feature of GPU cloud contracts. Check your provider’s actual commitment, billing basis, and price-change clauses rather than assuming a fixed price or a particular minimum.

Read the incorporated SLA and service terms

Review the exact SLA that applies to the product and subscription in your order form. Record how availability is measured, the measurement period, covered components, exclusions, incident-report deadline, proof required, claim-approval process, credit calculation, and when credits can be used. Determine whether credits are the sole remedy and whether chronic failure gives you a termination right.

NVIDIA’s Cloud Services SLA, last modified November 5, 2025, illustrates why the distinction between service and capacity matters: its DGX Cloud targets are 99% service availability and 95% capacity availability per calendar month. The terms describe validated claims receiving future-term credits, and the SLA specifies exclusions and claim information. Those figures and mechanics apply to the stated NVIDIA service terms, not to other providers or necessarily to every NVIDIA offering.

NVIDIA’s agreement terms also state that paid subscriptions are subject to the SLA and include Enterprise Support unless service-specific terms or the order form say otherwise; free or pre-release offerings are not subject to the SLA. Check the precise product and subscription status rather than assuming an umbrella agreement gives every service the same protection.

Test the full technical and operational path

During the trial, use the actual container images, drivers, libraries, orchestration path, and identity setup you expect to run. Test distributed communication, storage reads and writes, checkpointing, observability, quotas, and support escalation. Ask who performs host maintenance, how incidents are communicated, what telemetry you can access, and how node replacement works.

Compare useful work completed and reliability under your workload, not just nominal accelerator counts. Public SKU descriptions and reservation pages cannot establish how your jobs will perform on a provider’s actual configuration.

Verify security, privacy, and data location

Request current security attestations and confirm their scope. Review data-processing terms, subprocessors, incident-notification windows, location options, encryption and key-control details, access logging, retention and deletion commitments, and audit rights. Map each requirement to the specific service and region you plan to use; a trust center or certification does not by itself prove that a particular legal or contractual requirement is met.

CoreWeave’s Trust Center says customer data is processed to deliver and operate its cloud services and that customers retain ownership and control under contractual commitments. Inspect the contract and supporting evidence that apply to your service rather than relying on a general trust statement.

Negotiate shortfall, renewal, and exit terms

Before signing, settle what happens if committed capacity is not delivered and what rights apply if service repeatedly fails. At expiration or termination, specify renewal notice windows, price changes, unused prepaid balances, data export formats and deadlines, deletion confirmation, and transition assistance. Avoid a term longer than the period for which demand and utilization are reasonably supported; if they remain uncertain, consider staged capacity, ramp rights, or a shorter initial term.

How do I calculate the total cost of reserved GPU capacity?

Use the provider’s actual price schedule and model the whole deployment, not just accelerator hours. For each month, estimate committed compute charges plus any burst usage, storage by tier and retention period, network transfer and egress, dedicated connectivity, support, implementation or migration, and applicable taxes. Then account for minimum spend, take-or-pay commitments, ramp timing, idle capacity, and any renewal or repricing clauses. Sum the monthly scenarios across the contract term and compare them using the same workload and data-movement assumptions.

Ask the provider to show how each scenario appears on an invoice. A useful comparison separates unavoidable commitment from usage-sensitive charges so you can see how cost changes when utilization is lower or higher than expected. Do not treat a public rate card as a long-term offer: request a dated quote and preserve the price schedule and contract version you evaluate.

What evidence should support the decision?

A decision is only as strong as the documents and tests behind it. Before signing, make sure the following are in hand and consistent with one another:

  • A workload specification and agreed proof-of-concept success measures.
  • A dated quote and full-term cost scenarios based on realistic utilization and data movement.
  • An order form stating the capacity configuration, quantity, location, delivery and ramp dates, and shortfall remedies.
  • The exact SLA and service terms incorporated into the order form, including claim steps and remedies.
  • Trial results for performance, reliability, software compatibility, and operational effort.
  • Security and data-processing evidence for the specific service and region.
  • Written renewal, repricing, termination, export, deletion, and transition terms.

No independent, comparable cross-provider performance or savings statistic is established by the cited official materials. A provider’s ability to meet your capacity needs, your workload’s actual performance, negotiated minimums and discounts, and whether a security certification satisfies your obligations all require buyer-specific verification through the quote, contract, documentation, and a controlled trial.
