To convert a Mexican share price quoted in pesos to U.S. dollars, divide the peso price by an exchange rate quoted in Mexican pesos per U.S. dollar (MXN per USD). For example, at a hypothetical price of 100 MXN per share and a hypothetical rate of 20 MXN per USD, the indicative equivalent is 100 ÷ 20 = 5 USD per share.
Use the rate’s units to choose divide or multiply
Write the rate with its units before calculating. If it is quoted as MXN per USD, it tells you how many pesos equal one dollar, so divide the peso amount by that rate:
USD equivalent per share = MXN share price ÷ MXN-per-USD exchange rate
The units confirm the result: (MXN per share) ÷ (MXN per USD) = USD per share. To convert a dollar amount back into pesos using the same convention, multiply by the rate:

MXN amount = USD amount × MXN-per-USD exchange rate
If your source instead quotes USD per MXN, use the reciprocal convention: multiply the peso amount by the USD-per-MXN rate. Banco de México explains the conversion direction and arithmetic in its exchange-rate education material.

Choose and label a date-specific exchange rate
Exchange rates change, and a converted share quote is meaningful only when the rate’s date and source are clear. Banco de México publishes distinct peso-dollar rate series for different purposes. Its FIX is determined from wholesale-market quotes for operations payable in 48 hours; the bank says it is made known from noon on banking business days and published in the Official Gazette one banking business day after determination. Banco de México also describes a separate closing exchange rate and its publication method. These are reference rates, not a promise that an individual investor can transact at either rate. See the bank’s rate definitions and methodology.
For a historical comparison, match the exchange-rate date to the date of the stock quote and identify which rate series you used. Do not pair a share price from one date with a rate from another without explaining the mismatch.

Understand what the converted figure does—and does not—show
The result is an indicative dollar equivalent of a local share price, not a calculation of investment return or the amount you would necessarily receive in a trade. It does not account for a broker’s exchange rate, spread, conversion fee, taxes, dividends, or changes in the share price. For an actual purchase, sale, or account balance, check how your broker handles currency conversion and what charges apply. An American depositary share (ADS) is a separately traded security, not simply a Mexican share with its price converted into dollars. FEMSA’s SEC-filed annual report describes its Mexican share listings and ADS trading outside Mexico, and discusses how exchange-rate movements can affect both the dollar equivalent of Mexican shares and ADS market prices. A comparison for a particular company also requires that issuer’s current depositary ratio and prices observed at the same time; neither a currency conversion alone nor FEMSA’s example establishes those details for another security. Review the issuer’s filings for company-specific information: FEMSA filings with the SEC.
