Astronomer CEO Andy Byron resigned on July 19, 2025, three days after a Coldplay concert kiss-cam showed him embracing the company’s Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot. Astronomer said its board had opened a formal investigation before Byron’s resignation and confirmed Cabot’s resignation on July 25. The reviewed reporting does not establish the investigation’s findings, the pair’s relationship, or who leads Astronomer today.

What happened at the Coldplay concert?

On July 16, 2025, a stadium screen at Coldplay’s concert at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, showed Byron and Cabot embracing. Reports said they moved away or tried to hide when they realized they were on camera. Astronomer confirmed their identities to The Associated Press, according to AP’s account: Byron was the company’s CEO and Cabot its Chief People Officer. The Associated Press’s report also recounted that Coldplay frontman Chris Martin joked, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just very shy.” That remark was a joke, not evidence about their relationship; the reviewed reporting does not establish that they were having an affair.

Why did the Astronomer CEO resign?

On July 18, Astronomer said its board had initiated a formal investigation and that company leaders were expected to meet standards of conduct and accountability. The following day, the company announced that Byron had tendered his resignation and the board had accepted it. Astronomer’s statement, quoted by Axios, said: “Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met.” This was the company’s stated characterization; it is not an independent finding from an investigation.

Astronomer also said reports of a personal statement attributed to Byron and circulating online were incorrect. The Independent’s July 18 report quoted the company saying the board had “initiated a formal investigation into this matter” and would share additional details “very shortly.” The reviewed reporting does not provide those later details or establish that the investigation reached a conclusion.

What is known about Astronomer’s leadership now?

The July 2025 report that DeJoy was interim CEO and that the board had begun a search describes the situation at that time; it does not verify who holds the role as of October 4, 2026. The reviewed reports also do not disclose the formal investigation’s findings. Astronomer is described by AP as a New York-based technology company whose platform helps large companies organize data, but that background does not resolve the outstanding leadership or investigation questions.

Did the video affect Coldplay’s streams?

The Associated Press reported that Luminate measured a 20% rise in online streams of Coldplay’s songs in the days after the clip went viral. AP did not specify the baseline, exact dates, or methodology, so the figure should be read only as that limited reported increase—not as a broader or lasting measure of the video’s effect.
