There is no comparable, evidence-based list of the 15 highest-paying certifications across all professions in the available salary data. The clearest credential-by-credential figures are eight global cybersecurity medians reported by ISC2; PMI’s separate 2025 survey reports salaries for project professionals with and without PMP certification. These sources measure different populations, so they cannot support a single ranked top 15. Here is what they do show—and how to use the numbers when weighing a credential.
Can these sources establish the 15 highest-paying certifications?
No. ISC2 reports compensation figures for eight cybersecurity credentials, while PMI reports survey comparisons for project professionals. Neither source ranks 15 certifications across industries using a shared population, salary definition, geography, and method. Combining the figures into one league table would imply a comparison the data does not establish.
The ISC2 figures below are self-reported global median compensation in U.S. dollars from responses to its 2025 Cybersecurity Workforce Study, published in an ISC2 article on July 8, 2026. They are not a market-wide ranking: pay varies by role, region, experience, and credential. The order is highest to lowest within this eight-credential ISC2 subset only. ISC2’s article explains the figures and their qualifications.
Which cybersecurity certifications have the highest reported medians in this data?
| Credential | Reported global median |
|---|---|
| ISSAP (Information Systems Security Architecture Professional) | $140,620 |
| ISSEP (Information Systems Security Engineering Professional) | $136,800 |
| CGRC (Certified in Governance, Risk and Compliance) | $134,500 |
| ISSMP (Information Systems Security Management Professional) | $130,000 |
| CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) | $127,000 |
| CSSLP (Certified Secure Software Lifecycle Professional) | $125,000 |
| CCSP (Certified Cloud Security Professional) | $118,840 |
| SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner) | $95,200 |
ISSAP is highest in this subset and SSCP lowest. That describes the reported medians, not the pay a particular candidate should expect or a causal salary increase from earning a credential.

What does the PMP salary survey show?
PMI’s 14th Earning Power survey covered 14,628 project professionals in 21 countries, with fieldwork from March 9 to April 19, 2025. Across those countries, PMP-certified respondents reported a median salary 17% higher than non-certified project professionals. For U.S. respondents, the reported medians were $135,000 for PMP-certified professionals and $109,157 for non-certified professionals, a nearly 24% difference. These are survey comparisons, not evidence that certification by itself caused the difference. They are also specific to project professionals and should not be ranked against ISC2’s global cybersecurity medians as though both came from one survey. See PMI’s survey announcement and its 14th edition salary survey page.
Within the PMI survey, U.S. respondents who had held PMP certification for more than 10 years reported a $173,000 median; those certified for less than five years reported $123,000. This difference may reflect factors such as experience and career progression as well as credential status; the survey figures alone do not isolate the effect of certification.

How should you compare certification salary figures?
A reported median is useful context, not a personal forecast. Before using one to choose a credential, check whether its population and conditions resemble the job you want. In particular, compare:
- Geography and currency: A global median and a U.S. median describe different labor markets.
- Role and seniority: A credential associated with experienced security architects may not suit someone targeting an entry-level role or project management position.
- Salary measure: Confirm whether a figure is a median, average, salary band, or comparison between groups.
- Survey population and date: Sample size, fieldwork dates, and who responded affect what a figure can tell you.
- Eligibility and upkeep: Check the issuer’s current experience, education, examination, renewal, and continuing-education requirements before committing.
- Total preparation burden: Account for study time and the current costs of the exam, materials, training, and any renewal obligations. The salary surveys cited here do not establish those costs.
Most importantly, compare credentials for the same target role and market where possible. The available figures do not establish that one certification will pay more than another across occupations, or that paying for preparation will produce a particular salary return.

How can you prepare without assuming training is mandatory?
ISC2 offers official textbooks, study questions, paid courses, and a partner network, but says training is not required to sit for or pass its certification exams. Candidates can consider self-study as well as structured preparation. Before buying third-party materials, verify the provider’s status and that the content aligns with the current exam. Consult ISC2’s training information and official partner program for the issuer’s current options.
