For the official beta, use the Battle.net desktop app and verify that your account has a WoW: Forever beta license before acting on an invitation. Blizzard’s End User License Agreement (EULA) does not warrant that its client or platform is free of viruses or other harmful components. Legal questions about unofficial servers and modified clients depend on the conduct and jurisdiction involved; a U.S. court order in the Turtle WoW case is specific to the defendants and people covered by that order, not a universal ruling about every player.
What “WoW: Forever” means matters
Blizzard has announced an official World of Warcraft: Forever product. Its beta announcement says access is available through October 21, 2026, and its product page announces a November 4, 2026 launch. Those are Blizzard’s stated dates and may change. The official product requires an internet connection, a Battle.net account, and the Battle.net desktop app.
The name can also be used by third parties. A site, server, launcher, modified client, or download that uses similar wording is not thereby operated or approved by Blizzard. The distinction matters both for account security and for understanding which terms or legal proceedings may apply.
Is the official Blizzard product legal to use?
For Blizzard’s official service, the relevant starting point is Blizzard’s EULA and the terms governing access through Battle.net. Those terms establish Blizzard’s contractual conditions for use; they are not a country-by-country legal opinion about every possible player or circumstance. A reader’s legal position can depend on location and conduct.

Do not treat the separate Turtle WoW litigation as a blanket ruling about all players. A U.S. court-filed stipulated injunction bars the named defendants and people within the order’s reach from specified conduct involving private or emulated Blizzard servers, modified clients, and related activity. It does not, on the evidence available here, establish a universal rule for every player, every country, or every unofficial server.
Are private servers and modified clients the same as WoW: Forever?
No. An unofficial private or emulated server and a modified client are distinct from Blizzard’s official WoW: Forever service. The Turtle WoW order specifically identifies private or emulated servers, modded client software, and “remastered” game clients among the conduct it addresses, including examples associated with Turtle WoW. Its scope should be read as part of that case and order, not as a definitive answer to every individual’s legal exposure.

If you are considering an unofficial service, evaluate it separately: who operates it, where it is available, what client it asks you to install, what terms apply, and what security practices are publicly documented. The existence of an order in one U.S. case does not by itself settle the law for every jurisdiction or every service.
How to verify a WoW: Forever beta invitation
- Do not use an unexpected email or message link to sign in or enter your Battle.net credentials.
- Open the Battle.net desktop app or navigate to Battle.net yourself and sign in through the normal route.
- In your account, check Your Game Accounts for a World of Warcraft: Forever beta license. Blizzard identifies this account check as the way to verify an invitation if you are unsure it is legitimate.
- If the license is not present, do not treat the message or an attached download as an authorized beta invitation. Obtain the official client through the Battle.net desktop app, as Blizzard directs.
Blizzard’s beta notice warns about phishing and directs uncertain recipients to confirm the license inside their account. A message that looks branded or uses the product name is not a substitute for that check.

How safe is the official client?
Use Blizzard’s official distribution route, but do not interpret that as a guarantee of zero risk. Blizzard’s EULA says it does not warrant that the game client or platform is free of viruses or other harmful components. That is a warranty disclaimer; it is not evidence that the official client contains malware.
The available official and court materials do not establish an independent WoW: Forever security audit, a measured malware rate, a breach statistic, or a named security expert’s assessment. There is therefore no reliable basis here for assigning a numerical safety rating or claiming that the client is risk-free.

What to check before installing anything
- Operator: Confirm whether the product is Blizzard’s official service or a third party’s offering.
- Provenance: For the official beta, use the Battle.net desktop app rather than a repack, third-party download page, or unsolicited attachment.
- Account access: Verify a beta license under Your Game Accounts instead of trusting an invitation link.
- Terms and location: Consider the applicable terms, your jurisdiction, and the specific conduct involved; do not generalize a case-specific injunction.
- Security evidence: Look for publicly documented practices from the actual operator. Similar names alone do not establish that a download or server is genuine or safe.
