Start by checking whether your graphics card meets WoW Forever’s announced hardware architecture floor, then choose keyboard and mouse or try the built-in gamepad controls. Adjust graphics gradually, and install only addon files explicitly marked for Forever: its beta client, controls, and addon compatibility can change between builds.
Check your graphics card before changing settings
Blizzard’s September 17, 2024 requirements announcement sets an architecture floor of AMD Graphics Core Next 1 (introduced in 2012), NVIDIA Maxwell (2014), or Intel Skylake (2015), or newer. These years identify GPU architectures, not performance benchmarks. Blizzard’s examples—Radeon HD 7850, GeForce GTX 9xx and 750/750 Ti, and Intel HD Graphics 530—illustrate compatible architectures but are explicitly still below the game’s minimum requirements. Meeting the architecture floor alone does not mean a card meets the full minimum or will run the game well. Blizzard’s Forever requirements announcement is the authority to consult alongside the current official requirements.
In Windows, identify the installed GPU through Settings > System > Display > Advanced display or Device Manager > Display adapters. Check the exact model against Blizzard’s current requirements before spending money on a graphics upgrade or troubleshooting performance.
Choose keyboard and mouse or gamepad
Forever has an announced built-in gamepad path, and keyboard-and-mouse play remains available; a controller addon is not a prerequisite for using the native gamepad UI. The pre-release reference checked September 15, 2026, does not establish a final default button layout, supported-controller list, or targeting and cursor behavior. Test those details in your current build rather than assuming a particular controller will work or that its controls will match another version. If you prefer a physical controller, an Xbox-compatible controller is a general option to consider, not a model-specific compatibility recommendation. The available evidence does not verify individual models.
Optional controller customization
The community addon Easy Controller – Forever says it adds free-control and paddle mapping for the Forever gamepad UI. Its listing documents configuration through RB + D-pad down or /ec config, and gives this beta installation path: World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns/. Follow the addon author’s current instructions, since the client folder layout can change. The listing also says a full client restart is needed after installation or update; /reload does not load new addon files. See the addon’s listing for its own current instructions; it is not confirmation of Blizzard’s default bindings.

Adjust graphics in small, reversible steps
The available sources do not establish ideal slider values for a particular GPU, resolution, or frame-rate target. Begin with the game’s own graphics options. Change only a small number of settings at a time, then compare image quality and smoothness in the areas where you actually play. This makes it easier to identify which change helped or hurt without relying on a preset that may not suit your hardware or display.
Optional graphics panel
Forever Graphics Panel is a beta addon offering controls for camera zoom, vegetation density, fog, bloom, weather, shadows, global illumination, and HDR. Its listing includes a Performance preset that reduces several demanding settings and a Forever Ultra preset that raises selected visual settings; it does not provide independent benchmarks showing what frame rates users should expect.
The addon says it tracks original values and provides an ORIGINAL control or /fgp reset to restore them. Its listing, updated October 1, 2026, warns that Blizzard can modify, clamp, disable, or remove graphics CVars between beta builds, so some controls may stop working after an update. HDR behavior also depends on the display, GPU, and Windows HDR configuration. Treat the panel as optional convenience controls, not a required setup step. Install Forever-compatible addons carefully
Some functions may already be covered by the base interface, so add an addon for a specific need rather than installing a large collection by default. The independent WoW Forever Outpost hub recommends checking that the download is labeled for Forever, copying every folder in the archive into the client’s AddOns folder, then starting with addons disabled and enabling them one at a time. The hub’s addon checks were displayed as updated September 26–29, 2026, and it warns that beta files can change. Prefer the project author’s current files and compatibility notes when available. - Verify the game version. Download files explicitly labeled for Forever, not an addon file intended for a different WoW client.
- Copy the addon folders. Extract the archive and place every included addon folder in the client’s AddOns directory, following the project’s current installation instructions.
- Test incrementally. Log in with addons disabled, then enable one addon at a time. If a problem appears, you can identify the most recent change rather than troubleshooting several additions at once.
Back up your settings before experimenting. A September 21, 2026 Blizzard forum discussion reproduces a settings-recovery procedure attributed to Sanya, and one forum user reports success, but that discussion does not establish a universal or current fix.
