What Happened to the Hawk Tuah Coin? $HAWK Sell-Off and Lawsuit Explained

$HAWK’s December 2024 launch was followed by a sharp sell-off and an investor lawsuit alleging federal securities-law violations. The “rug pull” label is an accusation, not an established court finding in the cited sources.

$HAWK was a memecoin associated with Haliey Welch, the “Hawk Tuah Girl.” After its December 2024 launch, the token’s value fell sharply and investors sued, alleging federal securities-law violations. Calling it a “rug pull” reflects an accusation, not a court finding established by the sources cited here.

What happened to the Hawk Tuah coin?

The complaint says a presale began on November 26, 2024, and raised approximately $2.8 million; the token’s public launch followed on December 4. The amount and chronology are allegations summarized in complaint-related court materials, not findings that wrongdoing occurred. The lead-plaintiff order’s factual background describes those events.

The Atlantic reported on December 27, 2024, that $HAWK’s value fell soon after launch. It also reported that Welch said she would cooperate with counsel representing affected people. That account is reporting, not a court determination. Read The Atlantic’s retrospective.

Did Hawk Tuah Girl get sued over the coin?

Investors filed a complaint on December 19, 2024, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. The complaint alleges federal securities-law violations tied to the token’s promotion and sale. Filing a complaint starts a legal dispute; it does not prove the allegations or establish liability. The complaint and counsel’s case page describe the plaintiffs’ claims.

According to the plaintiffs’ account, Welch and the project team promoted the token in ways that created expectations of profit and presented it as a groundbreaking crypto project. The complaint, as quoted on counsel’s page, says: “Welch’s promotional efforts emphasized the [$HAWK] Token’s groundbreaking nature and inclusivity while creating an expectation that it would redefine the crypto space.” This is an allegation in the complaint, not a judicial finding.

Was $HAWK a rug pull?

The sharp post-launch sell-off is part of why “rug pull” became a public accusation. But the sources cited here do not establish that a rug pull occurred, and they do not provide a court finding that the token sale was unlawful. A rapid decline in a token’s value, by itself, does not establish who caused it or whether anyone committed fraud. The legal question in the complaint is framed as alleged securities-law violations, which remain allegations unless established through a ruling or other legal resolution.

What is known about the lawsuit and token now?

The cited materials establish that investors filed suit and describe their allegations, but they do not establish the case’s present disposition. They also do not verify $HAWK’s current trading status. Treat claims about a current court outcome or current market value as unverified unless supported by newer, reliable records.

The reviewed sources do not establish a court- or regulator-verified total for investor losses. The approximately $2.8 million figure refers to the presale amount alleged in complaint-related materials, not proven investor losses.
