Bruin Capital bought a reported 15% minority stake in May 2026, but the transaction’s financial terms were not disclosed. Media reports valued Matchroom at more than £1 billion, while another report cited $1.35 billion; neither figure is a confirmed asking price or the amount Bruin paid.
What is known about Matchroom’s deal with Bruin Capital?
In May 2026, Bruin Capital acquired a 15% minority stake in Matchroom, according to Sports Business Journal and The Independent. The Hearn family retained majority ownership and continued overseeing the business, The Independent reported.
The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed, The Independent said. That means the reported valuation of Matchroom cannot be treated as the cash Bruin paid for its stake. A company valuation and the consideration paid for a specific minority interest are different figures; the available reporting does not establish the transaction price.
How much is Matchroom worth?
Published reports attached different valuation figures to Matchroom in 2026. The Independent and Reuters Breakingviews reported a valuation of more than £1 billion, attributing it to Financial Times reporting. In July, Sports Business Journal cited Sportico’s reported valuation of $1.35 billion.

| Reported figure | Attribution | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| More than £1 billion | Financial Times reporting, as cited by The Independent and Reuters Breakingviews in May 2026 | A reported company valuation, not disclosed transaction consideration |
| $1.35 billion | Sportico, as cited by Sports Business Journal in July 2026 | A separate media-reported valuation, not a confirmed price paid for Bruin’s stake |
These figures use different currencies and were reported by different publications. The available sources do not establish a definitive agreed valuation, the valuation methodology or date, or the cash amount paid for the 15% interest. No confirmed full-sale price is reported.
Did Eddie Hearn sell Matchroom?
No full sale is established by these reports. The May transaction was a minority investment, and the Hearn family remained the majority owner. In July, Hearn told Sports Business Journal that Matchroom was regularly approached about minority or 100% sales, but said: “We’re definitely not ready for that move [to sell the whole company] yet because I’ve got a lot of petrol still left in the tank”.

Would Hearn sell Matchroom later?
Hearn has described a complete sale or a stock-market flotation as possible future steps, not as a deal with a set timetable or price. In a May interview with City A.M., he said: “Which will probably be a complete sale, or a float – that’s the next level, I guess.” He added: “I don’t know when that’ll happen. We turned down a complete sale because we’re not ready for that yet. We still love what we do.”
The investment was also presented as a way to pursue growth, particularly in the United States and internationally. In the same interview, Hearn said Bruin could help accelerate Matchroom’s expansion. Reuters Breakingviews separately characterized extending snooker and darts in the United States as a difficult growth challenge; that is its analysis, not a Matchroom forecast.

Why the headline’s “price” is misleading
The reported figures answer how some publications valued Matchroom, not what Eddie Hearn would demand to sell it. The distinctions matter:
- Reported valuation: a media-reported estimate of the company’s worth.
- Bruin’s investment: a 15% minority stake, with financial terms undisclosed.
- Possible future sale: a scenario Hearn has discussed without naming a price or timing.
Barry Hearn, Eddie’s father, was separately quoted by The Independent on the possibility of a full sale: “It has to depend on the price.” That comment is not a sale price announced by Eddie Hearn.
