You can decorate jumbo marshmallows with food coloring as an Easter egg-dyeing alternative. In 2025, Jet-Puffed’s seasonal Dip and Decorate Dozen kit was reported at $1.99, as U.S. egg prices were unusually high. That price and the kit’s availability are historical, not verified for 2026; a homemade version may be an option, but the sources do not establish a precise saving.
What was in Jet-Puffed’s Easter marshmallow kit?
In 2025, CNN reporting carried by ABC11 described Jet-Puffed’s “Dip and Decorate Dozen” as a seasonal kit sold exclusively on Walmart’s website for a reported $1.99. It included a 24-ounce bag of extra-large marshmallows, six colors, miniature dipping tongs and decorating pens. Jet-Puffed called it a “festive, mess-free twist on egg decorating,” according to the report. The reported daily restocks applied at the time, not today. ABC11’s 2025 report
That kit is a dated example, not a confirmed current product listing. The reporting does not establish whether it is available now or will return for Easter 2027.
Was marshmallow decorating cheaper than dyeing eggs?
It was presented as a lower-cost alternative during the 2025 egg-price spike, but the available figures do not prove how much a household saved. The Associated Press reported that U.S. eggs averaged $6.23 per dozen in spring 2025, a record at that time. CNN, carried by ABC11, reported a 5.6% weekly increase and a price about 60% above a year earlier. Those figures describe 2025, not current 2026 grocery prices. Associated Press report · ABC11 report

The kit’s reported $1.99 price and the $6.23 average egg price came from different contexts, not a same-store, same-date comparison of equivalent activities. They also do not include the cost of a DIY activity’s ingredients or supplies. For a useful household comparison, check current local prices and add up everything needed for the version you plan to make.
How to dye marshmallows at home
ABC News’ Good Morning America activity uses jumbo marshmallows, food coloring, skewers or chopsticks, small cups or bowls such as muffin-tin wells or ramekins, and a baking sheet lined with parchment. Its directions are a published activity, not an independently tested recipe. Good Morning America’s instructions

- Set out food coloring in small vessels and line a baking sheet with parchment.
- Put a jumbo marshmallow on a skewer or chopstick and dip it into one color for about 5–10 seconds.
- Let excess color drip off. Turn the marshmallow to an undyed section and dip it in another color if desired. The segment also demonstrates dipping thirds in three colors so they bleed together.
- Place decorated marshmallows on the lined tray and let them dry overnight.
HGTV suggests following the directions on the egg-dye product you use and describes full dips, multicolor dips, splatters and polka dots as decorating options. Small sponge brushes or an egg-shaped cutter are optional tools; overnight drying may reduce stickiness. Its article also cautions that marshmallows do not last as long as eggs, particularly in heat. What else was happening with Easter decorating costs in 2025?
Egg dyeing remained popular even amid the price spike. The Associated Press reported that PAAS said 94% of people who celebrate Easter planned to dye eggs, while 78% of families said they would dye fewer than in prior years because of expense. The AP also reported that Michaels said sales of two craft egg kits were up 20% from the same time the previous year. The supplied report did not provide survey methodology for those PAAS figures; both sets of numbers are historical 2025 reporting, not current measures. Associated Press

What to keep in mind
- Use current local prices to decide whether marshmallows are less expensive for your particular activity; the historical figures are not a current comparison.
- Follow the directions on any dye product you use. Published marshmallow instructions recommend overnight drying, and HGTV notes the finished marshmallows do not last as long as eggs, especially in heat.
- The cited activity directions do not establish allergy suitability, food-safety handling times or age-specific guidance. Do not assume the activity is suitable for every person or situation on that basis alone.
