Dub is a U.S. brokerage app that lets eligible adults copy selected portfolios by authorizing trades in their own accounts. The “teens talking” hook comes from one parent’s 2025 account of a teenager seeing Dub ads—not evidence that teenagers can open Dub accounts or that teen interest is widespread. Dub says account holders must be at least 18.
Why did Dub have teens talking?
In a February 2, 2025 TechCrunch article, editor Connie Loizos reported that her 15-year-old had asked more than once about “investing like Nancy Pelosi” after seeing Dub ads on Instagram. That is one parent’s anecdote about ad exposure and curiosity, not a survey of teenagers or evidence of teen account use.
Loizos also reported that Dub founder Steven Wang described the average user at the time as 30–35. That was a dated, founder-attributed statement, not an independent demographic study or a current figure. The article reported more than 800,000 downloads and $17 million in seed funding at the time; neither figure should be read as a current total or valuation.
Can teenagers use Dub?
No. Dub’s account-opening requirements say customers must be at least 18, have a valid Social Security number, meet the company’s U.S. address requirements, and be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Apple’s App Store listing also displays an 18+ age rating. Seeing an advertisement or being curious about investing does not make someone eligible to invest through the app.

The available reporting does not establish how many teenagers have heard of Dub or whether teen awareness has grown. The 2025 anecdote should not be treated as a trend statistic.
What is the Dub copy-trading app?
Dub combines portfolio discovery with brokerage trading. Users can browse portfolios, review their holdings and performance, and choose whether to copy one. Copying is more than following someone socially: Dub’s brokerage agreement describes enabling auto-copy as authorization for Dub Financial to accept trade signals from a selected portfolio and place orders in the customer’s brokerage account to keep it aligned with that portfolio’s holdings and weights.

Dub distinguishes between two kinds of portfolios in its disclosures:
- Core portfolios: created by users.
- Premium portfolios: managed by dub Advisors, which has discretion over the Premium allocation.
Dub’s discovery categories are intended to help users find portfolios; the company says they are not endorsements or investment advice. A label or prominent position in the app should not be taken as a recommendation that a portfolio suits a particular person.

What does copy trading cost?
Dub’s FAQ says a membership is required to copy, create, or sync portfolios. The App Store lists in-app purchases with multiple price entries, but the reviewed official materials do not provide one complete, reconciled current fee schedule. Check the live app’s membership price and the disclosures for any portfolio-specific advisory charges before enrolling or copying.
How should you interpret Dub’s performance figures?
Dub’s support FAQ says its performance metrics reflect actual returns achieved with real money on the platform. Separately, the company’s disclosures describe portfolio index values generated from creator activity as hypothetical performance. Those statements concern different measures: a displayed metric should not be assumed to represent a live customer’s realized return unless its definition says so.

Dub also warns that past performance does not guarantee future results and that investments can lose principal. Before comparing portfolios, identify what the displayed figure measures, the period it covers, and whether it is actual or hypothetical. A strong historical result does not show what a copier will earn.

Execution timing and prices
A creator may trade outside Dub before copiers’ orders are placed and may receive a more favorable price. Large trades can also move a security’s price in a direction that gives copiers a less favorable entry. Copying therefore does not guarantee the same timing or outcome as the portfolio being followed.

Fit, concentration, and losses
Dub says user-created portfolios may not match another investor’s objectives, risk tolerance, or time horizon; customers remain responsible for deciding whether a strategy fits them. Review holdings and concentration rather than relying on a portfolio name, category, or past return. Investments can lose principal.
Information from social channels
In its December 2025 report, FINRA’s *Social Media-Influenced Investing* says: “Using investing chat groups and forums is frequently linked to the development of various trading strategies, including copy trading (involving imitating the trading activity of other traders) and meme stock trading strategies.” FINRA’s sector-level warning is that social investing channels may carry inaccurate, misleading, harmful, or intentionally false information. It is general context, not a finding that Dub itself contains such content.
