To check a filed GST registration application, sign in to the official GST Portal and go to Services > Registration > Track Application Status. A Temporary Reference Number (TRN) can also take you back to an application you saved, but a TRN alone does not mean the application was submitted. GSTN’s registration guide distinguishes the saved-draft and filed-application steps.
Track a filed GST registration application
- Open the official GST Portal at https://www.gst.gov.in/.
- Select Services > Registration > Track Application Status.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to look up the application. Use the reference number that matches how the application was submitted, as described below.
The GSTN guide identifies this menu as the application-tracking route. The portal’s live labels or behavior may change, so follow the current options shown there.
Use a TRN to resume a saved application
If you started a registration on the GST Portal and saved it before filing, use the TRN route to return to the application. In the GST Portal, open Services > Registration > New Registration, select Temporary Reference Number (TRN), enter the TRN and captcha, then complete OTP verification. GSTN says TRN acknowledgement information is sent to the applicant’s email address and mobile number.
After logging in, GSTN’s February 2021 functionality update described a Search ARN for Registration view that shows application stages, with the current stage in green and remaining stages greyed out. This is the appearance described in that dated update, not a guarantee of how the current screen is styled.

Check whether the application was actually filed
A saved application is not necessarily a submitted one. According to GSTN’s registration guide, an unsubmitted application remains in Draft; after submission, its status changes to Pending for Validation. If the application is still a draft, return to it through the TRN route and complete submission before using the filed-application tracker.
GSTN says the TRN and information saved against it are purged if the application is not submitted within 15 days. If that period has passed, the old saved details may no longer be available through that TRN.

Choose the right reference number
The reference depends on where the registration application was submitted. GSTN’s 2024 functionality update says the GST Portal tracker can use an SRN for an application submitted through the MCA Portal or an FRN for one submitted through the IFSCA Portal.
| Where you started or submitted the application | What to do | Reference described by GSTN |
|---|---|---|
| GST Portal; application saved but not filed | Use Services > Registration > New Registration and choose the TRN option to resume it. | TRN |
| GST Portal; application filed | Use Services > Registration > Track Application Status. | Use the applicable reference requested by the tracker; GSTN’s guide describes the tracking route. |
| MCA Portal submission | Use the GST Portal application tracker. | MCA-generated Service Request Number (SRN) |
| IFSCA Portal submission | Use the GST Portal application tracker. | IFSCA-generated Financial Reference Number (FRN) |
The SRN and FRN options apply to the portal submissions identified in GSTN’s update; do not assume every registration uses a TRN.

How the State or Union Territory is associated with the application
GSTN’s registration guide says the State/UT and district are selected in Part A, and the state displayed in the application is based on that selection. It also says the state cannot be edited in the Business Details tab. Check the selected State/UT in the application itself if you need to confirm which jurisdiction the registration relates to.
A GSTN functionality update says jurisdiction details appear in Track Application Status for taxpayer types other than GST Practitioners. This describes the enhancement in the update; the live tracker is the place to confirm what details are available for a particular application.

What a status can—and cannot—tell you
- A Draft status means the saved application has not yet been submitted, according to the GSTN guide.
- Pending for Validation is the status the guide says follows submission; it is not a promise of approval or a processing deadline.
- The official material does not establish a guaranteed processing time or approval outcome based on an on-screen status. Use the live tracker for the current status of your own application.
