The Knot’s 2026 Real Weddings Study reports an average wedding-planner spend of $2,100 among U.S. couples married in 2025. That overall figure combines different service levels: the reported averages were $3,800 for full-service planning, $2,400 for month-of coordination and $1,600 for day-of coordination. These are survey averages, not guaranteed quotes; what you pay depends heavily on the work included, your location and your event.
How much does a wedding planner cost?
The Knot says its latest Real Weddings Study collected responses from 10,474 U.S. couples married between January 1 and December 31, 2025. Its May 13, 2026 cost article reports these average costs by planning service:
| Service or wedding type | Reported average |
|---|---|
| All planner services | $2,100 |
| Full-service planning | $3,800 |
| Month-of coordination | $2,400 |
| Day-of coordination | $1,600 |
| Partial planning | Not stated in The Knot’s accessible cost article |
These figures come from The Knot’s survey reporting, not a universal price list or an estimate of what any particular couple will be charged. The overall average is especially easy to misread: it combines couples buying substantially different amounts of planning help. Use the service-level figure that most closely matches the help you want, then compare written quotes for the same scope.
Other guides publish different estimates. For example, Pix Wedding’s April 2026 guide gives ranges of $500–$1,500 for day-of, $800–$2,500 for month-of, $1,500–$5,000 for partial, and $3,000–$10,000 or more for full service. Those are publisher estimates, not equivalent survey averages, so they should not be combined with The Knot’s figures as though they measured the same thing. Pix Wedding’s cost guide

What does each planning service include?
Labels such as “day-of” and “month-of” are not precise contract standards. The start date, responsibilities and deliverables can vary by planner, so get the details in writing rather than assuming a package name guarantees a particular service.
Full-service planning
This is the broadest level of involvement, often covering work across the planning process as well as wedding-day management. The Knot’s article cites planner Ashley Allan of Your Jubilee Weddings, who estimates that a lead planner may spend 150–250 hours on a full-service wedding before assistant hours are added. That is Allan’s description of her company’s workload, not an audited industry-wide average. The Knot reports a $3,800 average among couples who selected full-service planning; 33% of surveyed couples hired this level.
Rank #2
Partial planning
Partial planning is generally aimed at couples who have already made some decisions and want professional help with the remaining work. The Knot’s article quotes Allan describing partial planning as taking about half as much time as full-service planning, but the accessible article does not give a separate consumer-study average for this tier. Ask which decisions and tasks you retain and which the planner takes over.
Month-of coordination
The reported average is $2,400, and 17% of couples in The Knot’s study chose a month-of planner. This service usually concentrates on bringing plans together near the event, but it need not begin exactly one month before the wedding. Confirm the handoff date, number of meetings, vendor follow-up, timeline preparation, rehearsal duties and wedding-day coverage.

Day-of coordination
The reported average is $1,600, and 37% of surveyed couples hired day-of help. It costs less on average because it involves less of the earlier planning logistics, according to The Knot’s framing. Allan describes a day-of coordinator as contributing less time than a month-of coordinator. Before comparing quotes, check whether day-of means only event-day management or includes earlier timeline review, a planning meeting, rehearsal, setup oversight, vendor communication and assistant staff.
Destination planning
The Knot reports a $2,700 average for destination planners. Its figures distinguish a $1,900 hometown average, $2,700 for domestic destination weddings and $3,000 for international destination weddings. These are survey averages; the article excerpt does not establish whether travel, lodging, additional events or on-site staffing are included in a given planner’s fee. Ask for those costs and responsibilities to be itemized.

Why do wedding planner quotes differ?
A planner’s quote reflects the work and resources behind the package, not just the title attached to it. The Knot identifies location, guest count, planner involvement, experience, package and additional staff as factors. The survey averages rise with guest count: $1,700 for weddings with 1–50 guests, $1,900 for 51–100 guests and $2,300 for 101 or more. Larger events can involve more logistics and staffing, but the average does not predict the price of an individual wedding.
- Scope and start date: More months of involvement and more responsibilities typically mean more labor. Establish when the planner begins and what work happens before the event.
- Guest count and complexity: A larger guest list, multiple venues or additional events may create more coordination needs. Ask which details change the fee.
- Location and travel: Local markets differ, and destination arrangements may add travel or lodging costs. The study averages do not tell you what a specific quote includes.
- Team size: A planner who brings assistants may charge more to cover staff, while providing more on-site support. Allan makes this distinction in The Knot’s article.
- Fee structure: Wedding Planner Central’s 2026 planner-side guide describes flat fees, percentages of a wedding budget and hourly consulting as pricing models. Its guide estimates percentage fees at 10–20% and consulting add-ons at $75–$200 per hour; these are the guide’s business-side estimates, not survey findings or a universal standard. Ask what budget a percentage applies to, whether there is a minimum, how extra hours are billed and how changes in scope affect the fee. Wedding Planner Central’s pricing guide
Pix Wedding’s 2026 guide also offers regional estimates, placing New York City and Los Angeles above Midwest markets. Treat those as a directional publisher estimate rather than a substitute for quotes from planners who serve your area. Pix Wedding’s cost guide
How to compare quotes before you commit
Make the quotes comparable by giving each planner the same description of your event and asking for the same tasks. A lower fee may reflect a later start date, fewer included services or less event-day staffing rather than a better price for equivalent work.
- Define the help you need. List the decisions you have made, the tasks you want to delegate and the events requiring coverage. Use that list to distinguish full, partial, month-of and day-of support.
- Share the same event details. Give each planner your date, location, estimated guest count, venue status and any additional events or locations. These details help clarify what each quote covers.
- Request an itemized scope. Ask for the start date, meetings, vendor communications, timeline work, rehearsal responsibilities, event-day hours, setup oversight, number of staff and any travel or lodging charges.
- Check the fee basis. For a flat fee, ask what is included and what triggers added charges. For a percentage, confirm which budget items count and whether a minimum applies. For hourly work, ask the rate, estimated hours and approval process for additional time.
- Review the contract before booking. Confirm payment dates, cancellation terms, overtime, staffing and the process for scope changes. The Knot quotes planner Alex McClard advising couples to request pricing and a contract after an initial consultation.
Is a day-of wedding coordinator worth it?
A day-of coordinator can be a fit if you are comfortable handling planning beforehand but do not want to manage the schedule and vendor logistics during the celebration. It is less helpful if you expect someone to take over unfinished planning well before the wedding; check the contract’s start date and responsibilities to see whether the service matches that expectation. The Knot’s $1,600 figure is a survey average, not a guarantee of what day-of coverage will cost or include.
