It can be worth the $89 annual fee if you already use Flying Blue, can redeem its miles, or can make practical use of its XP and airline-and-dining rewards. It is a weaker fit if you would earn mostly on other purchases and have no realistic use for Flying Blue. The first-year decision also depends on which welcome offer appears on your application page: Bank of America and KLM currently show different offers.
What the $89 fee gets you
Bank of America and KLM list an $89 annual fee for the U.S. Air France KLM Visa Signature card. Both also state that the card has no foreign transaction fees. The issuer’s current earning rates are 3 miles per dollar on eligible Air France, KLM, SkyTeam member airline, and dining purchases, and 1.5 miles per dollar on other purchases. Bank of America’s card page and KLM’s U.S. card page list the terms; the pages were reviewed October 3, 2026.
The card’s recurring rewards are not a cash rebate, so miles earned do not automatically offset the fee by a fixed amount. Their practical value depends on whether you can use them for a Flying Blue reward that suits your trip, after accounting for cash charges and availability.
First-year value depends on the offer you can actually get
The two official U.S. pages reviewed display different welcome offers. Bank of America lists 50,000 bonus miles plus 100 XP after at least $2,000 in purchases within the first 90 days of account opening. KLM lists a limited-time offer of 70,000 bonus miles plus 100 XP after at least $3,000 in purchases in the first 90 days. These are page-specific advertised offers, not one guaranteed offer for every applicant. Check the offer and spending requirement on the application path you intend to use before applying. Count a welcome offer toward first-year value only if you can meet its minimum spend with purchases you already planned to make. Do not spend more than you otherwise would or carry a balance to earn miles: Bank of America lists a variable standard APR of 19.49%–27.49% and a 5% balance-transfer fee, and no introductory APR is shown on its page. Terms can change. Bank of America.
Ongoing rewards and spending thresholds
Anniversary miles
Bank of America says cardholders earn 5,000 anniversary miles after at least $50 in purchases during the anniversary year. That is a modest purchase threshold, but the miles have value only if you can use them. The issuer’s exact condition is on its card page.

XP and status-related spending
The issuer lists 20 XP each anniversary, with anniversary totals rising to 100 XP after $15,000 in qualifying purchases and 160 XP after $25,000. Those higher totals require substantial annual spending; they are not automatic just for holding the card. KLM’s U.S. page also describes the up-to-160-XP structure. Bank of America; KLM.
Flying Blue sets Silver at 100 XP and Gold at 180 XP, with a 12-month qualification period. KLM describes Silver benefits including priority check-in, baggage drop-off and boarding, some free seat options 24 hours before departure, standard-seat selection, and one extra checked item on SkyTeam flights. XP may help if it fits your qualification circumstances and moves you toward a status level you will use; the card’s XP should not be treated as a guaranteed full year of status for every account. Can you use Flying Blue miles for trips you want?
Flying Blue members can book reward tickets for themselves or others on Air France, KLM, and partner-airline flights. Miles do not cover taxes and surcharges, which must be paid separately, and seats are subject to availability. Flying Blue says monthly Promo Rewards can discount the usual mileage price by up to 25%, also subject to availability. Since September 2026, Air France- and KLM-operated reward tickets are offered in Light, Standard, or Flex fares: Light has the lowest displayed starting mileage price, while Standard and Flex require more miles. Flying Blue reward tickets.
These rules make redemption fit personal: a large balance is less useful if the routes, dates, cash charges, or fare options do not work for you. Flying Blue’s official pages do not establish one universal value per mile, so assigning the miles a standard cents-per-mile figure would not tell you what this card is worth for your travel.

A practical way to judge the fee
Compare the annual fee with the rewards and status-related benefits you expect to use, rather than with the headline number of miles earned. A simple personal framework is:
- For year one, verify the exact welcome offer and count it only if its minimum spend fits planned purchases.
- For later years, consider the 5,000 anniversary miles (after the $50 anniversary-year purchase threshold), miles from your actual category and other spending, and any XP value you can realistically use.
- Assess your redemption options, including award availability and cash taxes or surcharges, before assigning value to the miles.
- Compare that usable value with $89. If you cannot comfortably use the miles or XP, do not count their advertised totals as if they were cash.
The card is more compelling if you already fly Air France, KLM, or SkyTeam airlines, use Flying Blue, spend meaningfully in eligible airline or dining categories, or have a credible path to using XP. It is harder to justify if most of your spending earns 1.5 miles per dollar and you do not have a realistic Flying Blue redemption plan. This is a fit assessment based on the published earning and redemption terms, not a guaranteed return for any individual cardholder.
