For U.S. cardholders, the choice comes down to whether Premier Select’s higher annual fee is worth its stronger IHG status, larger annual credits and higher free-night certificate cap. Under the October 2026 refresh, Select costs $350 a year; Premier costs $150. Select is a better fit if you can use its extra benefits, while Premier may suit travelers who want IHG card perks at a lower fee. Neither card is automatically the better value.

What the $200 annual-fee difference buys
Premier Select costs $200 more per year. Its food and beverage vouchers and airline credit have higher stated maximums than Premier’s, but those amounts are not cash value for every cardholder. Count a credit only to the extent you would make eligible purchases and use the resulting benefit. The airline credits require at least $250 in qualifying direct airline purchases in each calendar year and, under current terms, run through December 31, 2027.

#1 Best Overall
For a personal comparison, estimate the benefits you expect to use in a typical year, then compare that total with the additional $200 fee. Do not count a voucher at face value if you would not otherwise spend on eligible food and beverage purchases, or count airline credit without meeting its purchase condition.
Choose by the IHG benefits you will use
Status and Elite Night Credits
Select provides Platinum Elite status and 20 annual Elite Night Credits, compared with Premier’s Gold Elite status and 15 credits. These are different status levels and credit totals, but they do not guarantee upgrades or room availability. IHG status benefits and qualifying activity are governed by IHG’s terms.

Anniversary certificates and reward nights
Select’s anniversary certificate covers an eligible night priced up to 60,000 points; Premier’s cap is 50,000. Both allow you to add IHG points for a higher-priced eligible night. The cap matters most when the properties and dates you would actually book price above Premier’s limit. A certificate still depends on an eligible room being available for your dates.
Both cards also offer the fourth Reward Night free when you redeem points for a qualifying consecutive four-night IHG stay. This is separate from the anniversary certificate: it applies to an eligible points booking, not as an extra certificate.

Where your everyday spending goes
Select earns 6 points per dollar on dining and other travel. Premier earns 5 points per dollar on direct airline flights, rental cars, dining, grocery stores and gas stations. Each earns 3 points per dollar on other purchases. Premier may be a closer category match if groceries and gas are meaningful parts of your card spending; Select emphasizes dining and broad travel.
The advertised total earn on IHG stays includes points from more than the card purchase itself. Select’s up-to-28 and Premier’s up-to-24 points per dollar include IHG and status earning as well as card earning, so they are not equivalent to the card’s standalone earn rate.

Which card fits which traveler?
- Consider Premier Select if you expect to use its higher-value credits, value Platinum status and the extra five Elite Night Credits, or have likely certificate stays that benefit from the 60,000-point cap.
- Consider Premier if the $200 lower annual fee matters more than Select’s added benefits, or if its grocery and gas bonus categories fit your spending better.
- Compare both against your plans if you are unsure: estimate usable credits, identify likely certificate destinations and dates, and account for the fact that room availability and qualifying rules affect redemption.
IHG and Chase described the program as spanning over 7,000 properties and 21 brands in the October 1, 2026 Premier Select announcement. Treat that as the announcement’s figure, not an independently audited current inventory count. See the announcement.

Chase currently displays an offer of 200,000 points after $5,000 in purchases within three months for Select, and 180,000 points after $3,000 in purchases within three months for Premier. These offers can change, and each card has product-specific eligibility restrictions. Confirm the live offer and its terms on the Select or Premier page before applying; do not choose a card based on an offer you cannot qualify for or spending you would not otherwise do.

Bottom line: compare usable value, not maximums
Premier Select is the higher-fee option for travelers likely to use its stronger status, larger credits and higher certificate cap. Premier keeps the annual fee $200 lower and includes grocery and gas bonus categories. The better fit is the one whose benefits match your actual spending and IHG travel, after conditions and availability—not the card with the largest advertised maximum.
