How Wealthy Is Birmingham City Owner Tom Wagner? What We Know About His Net Worth

There is no reliable public estimate of Tom Wagner’s personal net worth, so he cannot be ranked fairly against EFL club owners. Birmingham City ownership records describe a company stake, not his personal wealth.

There is no reliable public estimate of Tom Wagner’s personal net worth in the sources available. That means he cannot be ranked responsibly against the English Football League’s richest club owners. The value of Knighthead’s investments, Birmingham City’s spending and the club-company stake held by a Knighthead subsidiary are not measures of Wagner’s personal wealth.

What is Tom Wagner’s net worth?

No attributable, dependable figure for Wagner’s personal net worth was located. Online estimates without a clear source or methodology should not be treated as established facts. The available material does not prove that no estimate exists anywhere; it does mean there is not enough evidence here to state a figure or rank him by wealth.

Why Knighthead’s money and Birmingham City’s spending do not answer the question

Several different financial measures can be confused when discussing a football club owner:

  • Personal net worth is the value of an individual’s assets minus liabilities. A credible estimate needs evidence about the person’s holdings and debts.
  • Investment-firm capital or assets belong to or are managed by an organisation, not automatically by its co-founders personally. Knighthead’s capital cannot be counted as Wagner’s own wealth.
  • Club-company finances describe the finances of a company, not its owner’s personal balance sheet. Companies House records, including accounts and control filings, are company-level evidence rather than individual wealth disclosures.
  • An ownership stake is an interest in a company. Its percentage does not by itself establish either its market value or the personal net worth of a person associated with the ownership structure.
  • Club spending shows what a club spends, not how much an individual owner is worth. Spending may be funded or arranged through different corporate and financial means.

These figures cannot be substituted for one another to produce a personal net-worth estimate.

What is known about Wagner’s role at Birmingham City?

The EFL lists Wagner in Birmingham City’s Championship entry in its Owners’ and Directors’ Test register. That establishes his listed club role, not his personal wealth.

In November 2025, BBC Sport reported that Shelby Companies Limited (SCL), a Knighthead subsidiary co-founded by Wagner, controlled 96.64% of Birmingham City Limited. That company owns Birmingham City and its women’s team. The 96.64% figure describes SCL’s control of the club company at the time of the report; it is not a statement that Wagner personally owns that percentage or that his wealth equals the value of the stake.

Companies House records for Birmingham City Limited’s persons with significant control show an active entry indicating at least 75% of shares and voting rights. This is a corporate control record and should not be read as a personal wealth disclosure. The company’s filing history includes full accounts made up to 30 June 2025, filed on 4 April 2026, and a charge registered on 28 May 2026. Those filings concern the company; the filing-history record does not provide a valuation of Wagner’s personal assets.

Who is the richest EFL club owner?

The available figures do not establish an EFL-wide ranking that includes Wagner. A 2026 FourFourTwo football rich-list excerpt gives Liverpool owner John W. Henry an estimated £4bn, but this is a football-wide editorial estimate, not a comparable EFL-only ranking or a disclosure of Wagner’s wealth. Liverpool is not an EFL club, so Henry’s figure cannot answer which EFL owner is richest.

Any meaningful comparison would need estimates for the relevant owners using the same basis, currency, valuation date and treatment of family or jointly held wealth. A list that mixes individual estimates, family fortunes, company valuations and club spending would not provide a like-for-like ranking.

How to read football-owner wealth lists

Public rich lists are estimates, not audited statements of personal net worth. Before comparing owners, check who or what is being valued, the date of the estimate, and whether the figure covers an individual, a family or combined business interests. Without a comparable estimate for Wagner and the other EFL owners, naming a richest owner would go beyond what the available evidence supports.
