The 2026 FIFA World Cup ticket process opened on 10 September 2025 with an application window for the Visa Presale Draw—not a guaranteed ticket sale. That window closed on 19 September 2025, and FIFA now says the tournament has concluded. This is a retrospective guide to how the official purchase phases worked and what FIFA announced about prices and resale.

What happened on 10 September 2025?

FIFA opened the entry period for its Visa Presale Draw on 10 September 2025. The application window closed on 19 September. Applying meant entering for a chance to purchase tickets; it did not guarantee an allocation or a ticket. FIFA’s sales phases page lists the historical phases and now states that the tournament has concluded.

Before the window opened, FIFA advised fans to use FIFA.com/tickets and create a FIFA ID. The original September phase was for qualifying Visa cardholders. FIFA said later phases would provide other opportunities for people who did not qualify or were unsuccessful.

How the announced ticket phases differed

Phase or route How it worked Important qualification
Visa Presale Draw Eligible Visa cardholders applied during 10–19 September 2025 for a chance to buy. An application was not a ticket or a guarantee of being able to purchase.
Early Ticket Draw FIFA’s phase page lists 27–31 October 2025, including a Domestic Exclusivity period. This was a separate application phase, not an extension of the September draw.
Last-Minute Sales Phase FIFA listed 1 April–19 July 2026 as a first-come, first-served phase with real-time transactions. Purchases were subject to availability. FIFA now marks the tournament concluded.
Resale or exchange Fans could list tickets through FIFA’s official resale or exchange channel. Supply depended on listings and was not guaranteed; the applicable channel depended on residence.
Hospitality FIFA separately offered ticket-inclusive hospitality packages through FIFA.com/hospitality when it announced the programme. This was a separate purchase route, not an ordinary ticket phase. Present availability after the tournament is not established.

FIFA’s 15 July 2025 announcement described the phased programme as running through the final on 19 July 2026. The timetable and sales methods above describe the announced process; they are not current opportunities to buy tickets.

What prices did FIFA announce?

In its 2025 announcement of the first sales phase, FIFA said group-stage tickets would start at USD 60 and that the most exclusive seats for the final could reach USD 6,730. These were phase-specific announced figures, not a complete price list, and the final-seat figure did not apply to all final tickets. They are historical prices, not current offers.

FIFA’s announcement described a 48-team tournament with 104 matches across Canada, Mexico and the United States, and said it expected 6.5 million fans. The 6.5 million figure was a pre-event attendance expectation, not a final attendance result.

How FIFA’s resale and exchange channels worked

FIFA said its Resale/Exchange Marketplace opened on 2 October 2025 and would remain open up to 60 minutes after each match kicked off. Listings—and therefore the chance to find a ticket—depended on fans choosing to resell or exchange tickets. FIFA said resale tickets would be delivered as mobile tickets through the FWC2026 Mobile Tickets app.

  • The marketplace was intended for residents of Canada, the United States and other international locations.
  • The FIFA Exchange was intended for residents of Mexico.
  • Resale and use were subject to local and federal rules and applicable FIFA terms.

These were FIFA’s published channel descriptions, not a guarantee that tickets would be available in a particular location or for a particular match. See FIFA’s Resale/Exchange Marketplace information for its stated rules.

What buyers needed to watch for

FIFA identified FIFA.com/tickets as its official ticket source and warned in its 2025 announcement that tickets or hospitality packages obtained unofficially might not be valid. FIFA also cautioned that having a match ticket did not guarantee admission to a host country; travellers needed to check the relevant government entry requirements. Those cautions were part of FIFA’s guidance at the time and do not replace current legal or travel advice.

For anyone checking old ticket offers or records now, the key distinctions are whether a purchase was made through an official channel, which phase or resale route applied, and whether the relevant terms and local rules were followed. FIFA’s current sales-phase page states that the tournament has concluded, so the historical dates and prices above should not be treated as an invitation to buy.
