Sun Country’s base fare includes one underseat personal item and a seat, but a full-size carry-on, checked bag, or advance seat selection may cost extra. The airline does not publish one universal price for bags or seats in the materials reviewed here, so check the amount for your itinerary in the booking flow or Manage My Trip before you pay.
What Sun Country’s base fare includes
Sun Country’s first-flight guide says the base fare includes a seat and one personal item that fits under the seat. Overhead carry-ons and checked bags are add-ons. Sun Country’s booking guide and its optional-services page direct travelers to check current trip-specific charges; the Contract of Carriage says fees can change.
Sun Country baggage sizes and weight limits
Measure bags when packed and compare them with the airline’s published limits. The dimensions below are maximums, not a guarantee that an oversized bag will be accepted without a charge.

Sun Country says it will not accept baggage heavier than 100 pounds or larger than 80 linear inches, subject to the contract’s stated musical-instrument exception. Specialty and oversized items can have different handling rules, so check the Contract of Carriage before travel. It also lists certain items, including outerwear and qualifying mobility devices, that may be carried without an additional charge; child restraint systems used in flight are subject to specified conditions. Do not assume all strollers, car seats, or special items have identical handling or liability treatment.

How to check baggage fees and compare options
The price depends on the itinerary and the purchase stage; the airline’s guides do not give a fixed fee that applies to every traveler. Sun Country says baggage is least expensive when purchased at booking. It also offers bundles combining seat assignments, bag options, and trip extras, but a bundle is not automatically cheaper than buying only the add-ons you need.
- At booking: Add the bags you expect to use and note the displayed price for each traveler and flight direction.
- Compare bundles: Compare the bundle’s total with the separately priced bags, seats, and extras you actually want.
- Before paying: Confirm the final itinerary total. If you book first, check Manage My Trip for the current price to add a bag later.
For current charges, use the amounts shown for your trip in Sun Country’s booking flow or Manage My Trip, rather than relying on a fee figure from another itinerary or an older third-party guide.

Seat selection: standard, exit row, and Best Seat
Sun Country offers standard seats, exit-row seats, and Best Seat options. You can pay to select a seat when booking or skip advance selection and receive a random assignment at check-in. If sitting together matters, choose seats early and check what remains available; advance selection cannot guarantee that every preferred seat will still be open.

Advance selection costs extra, with the price shown during booking. If you skip it, Sun Country says it assigns a seat at check-in.

Exit-row seats
These seats provide extra legroom. Their occupants must be prepared to assist in an emergency, so they are not suitable for every traveler.
Best Seat
Sun Country’s seat guide, updated January 28, 2025, describes Best Seat as including extra legroom, one complimentary premium beverage per guest, a full AC power outlet, and placement among the first passengers off the plane after landing. Recheck the features and available seats in the booking flow before purchase.

When Sun Country’s card discount may matter
In an announcement dated September 23, 2025, Sun Country said its Visa Signature Card offers the cardholder and travel companions 50% off seat selections and the first bag when those options are purchased before travel at suncountry.com. Check current issuer terms, eligibility, and the quoted trip price before counting the discount in your comparison. The announced benefit alone does not establish that applying for the card is worthwhile for a particular traveler.

A practical way to decide what to buy
- Use a personal item if your packed bag fits within 17 × 13 × 9 inches and you can travel without an overhead or checked bag.
- Compare the displayed cost of a carry-on with a checked bag if either would meet your packing needs; include the applicable weight and size limits.
- Pay for advance seat selection if a specific seat or sitting together is important to you; otherwise, be prepared for a random assignment at check-in.
- For a seat upgrade, weigh the trip-specific price against the Best Seat amenities or exit-row legroom you will actually use.
- Price the entire itinerary for all travelers and both directions, then compare any eligible card discount against the actual quoted total.
