Nor do the available resale examples support the claim that ordinary PC copies generally cost hundreds: PriceCharting shows reported 2026 PC sale examples around $10–$43, alongside a $189.95 asking price for a sealed copy.
Is Fable III still available on PC?
Microsoft’s current Fable III store listing is for Xbox. It does not establish that a Windows PC edition is currently on sale. The historic PC release was associated with Games for Windows Live; a Steam Community discussion describes delisting and key-creation problems, but that is historical community reporting, not a current official statement from Microsoft. Read the historical discussion.
In casual use, people may call an unavailable older game “abandonware.” That label does not establish that the game is legally free to download, that its rights holder has relinquished rights, or that an old key can still be activated. The evidence here does not settle Fable III’s current legal status or verify current key redemption.
Can you play the PC version on Windows 11?
A working, officially supported Windows 11 route for the original PC edition has not been verified. The fact that a used PC disc or key is offered for sale does not establish that installation, activation, or online features will work on a current PC. The game’s Games for Windows Live history is a material compatibility and service-dependence concern, but the available sources do not provide a tested modern-Windows fix.

Microsoft announced a PC backward-compatibility program in July 2026, initially covering four original Xbox games; its launch announcement does not name Fable III. That program should not be mistaken for a return of Fable III’s native Windows port. Microsoft’s Xbox Wire announcement.
Will an old PC disc or key work?
There is no verified answer that applies to every copy. A physical disc may still be resold, but resale alone says nothing about whether any required activation or service remains available. Digital-key offers likewise do not prove that a key is legitimate, unused, region-compatible, or redeemable. Do not buy a PC key on the assumption that it will restore access; confirm the seller’s refund terms and any activation conditions before paying.

Why do some Fable III PC copies appear to cost hundreds?
PriceCharting’s Fable III PC price-history page shows selected completed-sale examples from May through July 2026 at roughly $10–$43. It also displays a sealed-copy listing at $189.95. That figure is an asking/listing price, not evidence of a completed sale. These are marketplace observations, not a representative market average, and they do not show ordinary PC copies or keys generally selling for hundreds. See PriceCharting’s PC price history.
Condition and edition matter: a sealed collectible can be listed far above used copies. The cited figures also do not verify current digital-key listings or whether any such keys redeem, so a high asking price should not be treated as proof of working access.

What are the practical alternatives?
| Option | What the evidence establishes | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Legacy Windows PC disc or key | Historical Games for Windows Live-era PC release; current sale, support, and key redemption are not verified. | Activation requirements, legitimacy, region, refund policy, and whether the seller can demonstrate a redeemable key. |
| Xbox 360 physical disc | Physical Xbox 360 copies are listed separately; PriceCharting shows examples of 2026 sales below $12, not a prediction of today’s price. See the Xbox 360 price-history page. | Disc condition and whether your specific console model and region support the disc. |
| Official Xbox listing | Microsoft lists Fable III as an Xbox product, not as a Windows PC release. Check the Xbox listing. | Current availability and compatibility for your account, region, and console. |
Microsoft says selected Xbox 360 games work on Xbox One, conditional on the title appearing in the backward-compatible catalog. Check the current compatibility information rather than assuming every Xbox model or disc edition works. Microsoft Support: backward-compatible games on Xbox One. Current cloud access for Fable III and exact model or regional-disc compatibility are not established here.
Do not assume an Xbox 360 disc can be converted into a digital entitlement. Microsoft’s August 2026 disc-to-digital announcement concerns supported Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs, and its digital-goods rules limit eligibility to qualifying games; neither source identifies Fable III’s Xbox 360 disc as eligible. Before buying, use this checklist
- Decide whether you need the Windows edition specifically; an Xbox disc or listing is not a substitute for a Windows PC key.
- For a PC copy, ask the seller what activation is required and whether the key has been verified as redeemable; do not rely on the word “abandonware.”
- For an Xbox 360 disc, verify your console against Microsoft’s current backward-compatibility information and inspect the disc’s condition.
- Compare the asking price with completed-sale evidence, and distinguish used-copy sales from sealed-copy listings.
