Amazon also confirms that it sends gift cards by text and identifies 455-72 as its sender number. WhatsApp and Snapchat sharing, however, are documented in a 2017 report; current Amazon.com instructions confirming that app-sharing option were not established. Availability depends on the Amazon storefront and gift-card product.
Sending an Amazon gift card by text in the U.S.
Amazon.com currently lists eGift Cards with instant email or text delivery. When choosing a card, select the text-delivery option if it is offered for that product, then follow the checkout prompts to provide the recipient’s mobile number. Check the product and delivery details before paying; available options can vary by listing.
Amazon Customer Service says, “Customers can send gift cards by text message.” Its Common Gift Card Scams help page identifies 455-72 as the sender number for Amazon text-message gift cards. Amazon’s gift-card listings show eGift Cards for instant email or text delivery.
Can you share one through WhatsApp or Snapchat?
A 2017 GeekWire report described an Amazon mobile-app feature that shared gift cards through messaging apps. It named WhatsApp, Snapchat, WeChat, iMessage, and Facebook Messenger, and said app sharing could include a photo or video.
#1 Best Overall
That report is historical, not confirmation that the same Amazon.com app interface—or Snapchat support—works today. Amazon.com’s current product listings and help page establish text delivery, but the sources available do not verify current U.S. instructions for sending through third-party messaging apps. Check the current Amazon app for an available sharing option rather than relying on old menu steps.
Amazon.com and Amazon.in use different documented flows
Amazon India currently documents sharing Amazon Pay gift cards by WhatsApp, SMS, or Instant Messenger on Apple devices, as well as delivery by email. Its guide was updated September 25, 2026. This confirms a flow for Amazon India’s Amazon Pay gift cards; it does not show that the same feature is available for Amazon.com gift cards.

Gift-card codes function like money: Amazon warns that a claim code shared with a scammer may be spent before you can contact Amazon or law enforcement. Amazon says not to use gift cards to pay people or businesses, and not to share claim codes with strangers or untrusted contacts.

- If you receive an unexpected gift-card text, verify it through your Amazon account or the official app instead of following a suspicious link.
- Amazon identifies 455-72 as the sender number for its gift-card texts. Treat an unfamiliar sender or an urgent payment demand as a reason to verify independently.
- Give a claim code only to the intended recipient through a channel you trust. Never provide it to someone demanding payment for a bill, service, fine, or emergency.
Amazon’s scam guidance explains these precautions.
