Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 opened in third place at the U.S. box office, earning $11,052,561 over June 28–30, 2024, in both The Numbers and Box Office Mojo records. That was well below the $20 million–$40 million domestic opening range Boxoffice Pro had forecast before release. The Numbers lists a $50 million production budget for Chapter 1; a separate Associated Press report described a $100 million-plus production in the context of Costner’s larger, multi-chapter project, not as a confirmed Chapter 1-only budget.

What was Horizon’s opening weekend box office?

The film earned $11,052,561 domestically during its June 28–30, 2024 opening weekend and ranked third, according to both The Numbers and Box Office Mojo. It opened in 3,334 theaters. These figures describe the U.S. domestic opening period, not the film’s worldwide earnings or total receipts over its full theatrical run.

How did the opening compare with the forecast?

In a May 31, 2024 forecast, Boxoffice Pro gave the film a domestic opening-weekend range of $20 million–$40 million, as of May 28. The actual $11,052,561 opening fell below the forecast’s lower end. The range was a pre-release estimate, not a reported result or guarantee.

How does the opening compare with the reported budget?

Figure What it refers to Source and scope
$11,052,561 Domestic opening weekend The Numbers and Box Office Mojo; June 28–30, 2024
$50 million Chapter 1 production budget listing The Numbers’ film-specific listing
$100 million-plus Production cost description for the broader undertaking Associated Press, May 2024; reported in the context of Costner’s multi-chapter project, not established as Chapter 1’s budget alone

The opening gross was roughly 22% of The Numbers’ $50 million Chapter 1 budget listing. That is a comparison of two different measures, not a profit calculation: a theatrical gross is not the same as the amount a studio or filmmaker receives, and the cited figures do not establish marketing costs, distribution terms, participant payments, or final net returns. The AP’s broader $100 million-plus description should not be substituted for the film-specific listing or presented as though the sources report the same scope.

What else do the box-office figures show?

Box Office Mojo lists a worldwide gross of $38,835,702 on the page consulted. That worldwide figure is distinct from the opening-weekend domestic total; it should not be read as the opening weekend’s worldwide gross. Box Office Mojo identifies Warner Bros. as distributor.

The Numbers records a Warner Home Video release dated July 16, 2024. That date establishes a recorded home-video release, but by itself does not confirm current stock, specific formats, or availability from any particular retailer.
