For mailing a credit-report dispute, a recently published Experian consumer guide lists Equifax Information Services, LLC at P.O. Box 740256, Atlanta, GA 30374; Experian at P.O. Box 4500, Allen, TX 75013; and TransUnion Consumer Solutions at P.O. Box 2000, Chester, PA 19016. TransUnion’s own instructions give its ZIP+4 as 19016-2000. Because mailing addresses can change, check the address on your credit report or the bureau’s current instructions before sending anything.

Mailing addresses for the three credit bureaus

Credit reporting company Mailing address listed by Experian Current-address check
Equifax Information Services, LLC P.O. Box 740256
Atlanta, GA 30374
The CFPB directs consumers to Equifax’s contact page for its current dispute address. Check that page or the address on your report before mailing.
Experian P.O. Box 4500
Allen, TX 75013
Check Experian’s current dispute instructions or the address on your report.
TransUnion Consumer Solutions P.O. Box 2000
Chester, PA 19016
TransUnion’s mail-dispute instructions confirm the address and specify ZIP+4 19016-2000.

The three addresses are listed together in Experian’s credit dispute letter guide. TransUnion independently confirms its mailing address on its mail-or-phone dispute instructions. The CFPB’s page, last reviewed September 2, 2026, sends consumers to Equifax’s contact page rather than printing an Equifax address. Treat the table as a starting point, not a guarantee that an address remains current.

How to verify the correct destination

  1. Look for the dispute address printed on the credit report containing the error.
  2. Check the bureau’s live dispute instructions. For Equifax, the CFPB specifically points consumers to Equifax’s contact page to find the current address.
  3. If you cannot find an address on the report or online, contact the business and ask where to send the dispute. The FTC gives this as the fallback approach in its guidance on disputing credit-report errors.

Send a dispute to each credit reporting company whose report contains the error. The CFPB also recommends contacting the company that supplied the information, such as a lender or other data furnisher, because that company may need to correct its own records.

What to include in a mailed dispute

Make the disputed information easy to identify and explain exactly what is wrong. The CFPB checklist calls for:

  • Your full name, mailing address and telephone number.
  • A report confirmation number, if available.
  • Each item you dispute and the account number, if relevant.
  • A clear explanation of why the information is inaccurate and what correction or removal you want.
  • A copy of the relevant report section, with the disputed entry circled or highlighted.
  • Copies of supporting documents, not the originals.

TransUnion’s instructions also ask for as much identifying information as possible, including your date of birth, address and Social Security number, along with the reporting company, partial account number, reason for the dispute and any corrections to personal information. Follow the specific bureau’s current instructions about what to provide.

Choose standard or certified mail and keep a record

TransUnion says it accepts standard or certified mail. Certified mail with a return receipt is an option if you want a record of delivery; the CFPB does not require it. In its dispute guidance, the CFPB explains: “You can choose to send your dispute letter by certified mail and ask for a return receipt, so that you have a record that your letter was received.” Whatever mailing method you choose, retain a copy of your letter and every enclosure.

What happens after the bureau receives it

The CFPB says the reporting company must investigate the dispute, forward it and relevant information to the company that provided the information, and report the results to you. Mailing is one way to submit a dispute; online or phone options may be available, but mail can be useful when you want to send copies of supporting documents and keep your own record. No submission method guarantees a particular outcome.

If you suspect identity theft, the CFPB directs consumers to IdentityTheft.gov for the relevant next steps.
