U.S. preorders for the original Nintendo Switch 2 launch opened on April 24, 2025; the console launched on June 5, 2025. Both dates have passed. To buy one now, check Nintendo’s current product and bundle pages, then confirm the seller’s live price, stock, and delivery or pickup date before ordering.

When did Nintendo Switch 2 preorders go live?

Nintendo of America announced that U.S. retail preorders would begin April 24, 2025, after changing the timing it had initially announced. The system went on sale June 5, 2025. These are historical dates, not an upcoming preorder window. Nintendo’s April 18, 2025 preorder announcement and April 2, 2025 launch announcement provide the dates.

How to find a Switch 2 for sale now

  1. Start with Nintendo’s current offer pages. Nintendo directs shoppers to the Nintendo Store and participating retailers for its system and bundle offers. Review Nintendo’s Switch 2 bundle page for current terms and purchase links.
  2. Check a retailer’s live listing. Nintendo’s retail-offers page names Best Buy, GameStop, Target, and Walmart among participating retailers. That does not mean a specific model is in stock; check the listing and checkout details directly.
  3. Compare the full offer before paying. Check the total price, included game and whether it is a digital code or physical copy, included accessories, and the estimated shipping or pickup date. Bundle availability and timing can differ by retailer.
  4. Check seller and price carefully. If a listing is above Nintendo’s announced launch MSRP, treat the difference as a premium rather than the standard price. Verify the seller’s identity and return terms before buying from a marketplace reseller.

System-only or bundle: what to compare

Nintendo’s current Choose Your Game offer describes a Switch 2 system with a code for a qualifying digital game. The offer is limited-time, and its start and end dates vary by retailer, so confirm eligibility and terms on the linked offer and retailer listing before checkout.

Option What Nintendo announced What to verify now
System only U.S. launch MSRP was $449.99, announced April 18, 2025. This is historical launch pricing, not a verified current price. Current total price, stock, and delivery or pickup date.
Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle U.S. launch MSRP was $499.99, announced April 18, 2025. This is historical launch pricing, not a verified current price. Whether the bundle is available, its current price, and exactly what version of the game is included.
Choose Your Game bundle Nintendo describes a system plus a code for a choice of qualifying digital game; availability is limited and timing varies by retailer. Qualifying game choices, offer dates, code terms, stock, and current total price.

The historical system and Mario Kart World bundle prices come from Nintendo’s April 18, 2025 announcement. They are useful context for evaluating listings, but they do not establish what a retailer charges today.

What the launch timeline and prices tell you

Nintendo announced the June 5, 2025 launch and the two U.S. launch prices on April 2, 2025, then announced the April 24 preorder start on April 18. Later preorder announcements concerned particular products and dates; for example, Nintendo said on July 22, 2025 that preorders were available for a limited-quantity Pokémon Legends: Z-A bundle scheduled for October 16, 2025. That was a dated offer, not evidence of present stock. Nintendo’s announcement describes that promotion.

Nintendo’s retail-offers page also listed a Switch 2 Sports Resort bundle with an October 22, 2026 availability date. As of October 3, 2026, that date was still in the future; check the page and seller listing for current status rather than assuming it is already available.

Are accessories required?

No. Accessories are separate purchases, not a prerequisite to buying or using the console. Nintendo’s April 18, 2025 announcement listed historical U.S. accessory prices, including $84.99 for a Pro Controller, $39.99 for a Carrying Case & Screen Protector, and $54.99 for a Switch 2 Camera. Those figures are dated announced prices, not verified current prices. Check compatibility and today’s price before adding accessories to your budget. The full list appears in Nintendo’s preorder announcement.
