For a recurring delivery of American artisan cheese with customization, Cheese Grotto is the strongest fit; Curdbox is a better match if you want a themed board with pairings, and Gourmet Cheese of the Month Club has the lowest clearly disclosed delivered price among the offers compared here. These are vendor-page comparisons, not taste-test rankings. Prices and terms can change, so confirm the total and renewal details at checkout.
How to choose a cheese subscription
Compare the delivered cost, not just the monthly headline price. Then check how much cheese arrives, what kind of selection the club makes, whether it includes accompaniments or tasting materials, and what happens if you need to pause or cancel. The available vendor details do not support a consistent price-per-ounce comparison across all six services.
- Total cost: Check whether shipping is included, charged separately, or subject to a regional surcharge.
- Selection and quantity: Offers range from specified American artisan selections to choices from a broader cheese case; some pages do not state a weight.
- Extras: Pairings, tasting notes, maker stories, and lessons may matter if you want more than cheese in the box.
- Control: Confirm renewal frequency and whether you can pause, skip, or cancel. A recurring subscription is different from a prepaid gift term.
The six cheese subscriptions
1. Cheese Grotto Monthly Cheese Subscription — best for customization
Cheese Grotto lists three American artisan cheeses totaling about 1.5 pounds for $99 per month, with express shipping included. Buyers can set preferences for milk and cheese styles and allergies, and may add crackers and three pairings. Each box includes a printed tasting menu and a recorded discussion. The vendor says boxes are dispatched weekly on Tuesday, with a Sunday cutoff for the following week, and are intended to arrive within one to three business days. The subscription renews every four weeks and can be paused, skipped, or canceled. See Cheese Grotto’s monthly subscription details.
For a less frequent option, Cheese Grotto also lists a quarterly Meet the Makers subscription with four cheeses per quarter and a cheesemaker Zoom session, from $109. View Meet the Makers.

2. Murray’s Cheese Explorer’s Club — best for a club-exclusive pick and guidance
Each monthly shipment includes two half-pound cheeses selected from Murray’s cheese case and one club-exclusive item. The vendor also describes facts, expert tips, and a monthly monger lesson. The available listing does not state a current price or shipping terms, so check those at checkout before comparing its cost with other clubs. See the Explorer’s Club.
3. Saxelby Cheesemongers Monthly Cheese Club — best for American artisan cheese
Saxelby sends three American artisan cheeses totaling 1.5 pounds, with tasting notes and information about the farms and cheesemakers. Shipping is included in the stated club cost, but shipments to California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Hawaii, and Alaska carry a $10 surcharge. You choose the first delivery date at checkout; subsequent billing and deliveries run in 30-day increments. Check Saxelby’s club details.

4. Curdbox — best for a themed cheese-board experience
Curdbox describes each themed box as three artisan cheeses plus three specialty pairings, tasting notes, a curator letter, and a playlist. Its listed price is $89 per month with free shipping, and the vendor says you can cancel anytime. Curdbox also reports that Food & Wine named it “Best Value Cheese Subscription Box”; that recognition is presented here as a vendor claim, not an independently verified award. See Curdbox’s current offer.
5. Gourmet Cheese of the Month Club — best for a clearly priced lower monthly offer
The Original Gourmet Cheese Club lists three artisan and farmhouse cheeses each month, with tasting notes, profiles, cheesemaker histories, and serving and pairing suggestions. The listed price is $62.95 per month plus $20 shipping, or $82.95 before any other applicable charges. The club also offers a Rare Cheese Club, but its price is not stated in the available listing. Review the club options.
6. CheesyPlace Cheese of the Month Club — verify details before subscribing
CheesyPlace’s current listing confirms a monthly club, delivery around the first Monday, and a 2026 schedule. It does not provide enough detail to compare the subscription’s price, quantity, shipping cost, or flexibility. Check those terms on the product page before ordering. Check CheesyPlace’s club page.

Among the offers with a stated monthly price and shipping terms, Gourmet Cheese of the Month Club’s Original offer has a listed delivered total of $82.95 per month before any other applicable charges. Curdbox lists $89 per month with free shipping, while Cheese Grotto lists $99 with express shipping included. Those totals are not directly comparable by value or quantity: box contents, selection, and included extras differ, and the other clubs do not all disclose enough information for a complete cost comparison.
Rank #4
Saxelby includes shipping in its stated club cost but applies a $10 surcharge to the listed states; the available details do not provide a price for a broader dollar comparison. Murray’s and CheesyPlace also need a checkout check for price and shipping. Confirm your delivery address, renewal cadence, and any gift-term options before placing an order.
