Supabase announced a $150 million funding round led by Singapore’s GIC on October 2, 2026, and separately agreed to acquire database company Turso for an undisclosed sum. The announcement does not establish that the acquisition has closed. The funding amount is not the stated purchase price for Turso.
What Supabase announced
The funding and acquisition are two distinct parts of the announcement. SiliconANGLE reported that CapitalG, IronArc, and Square Peg also participated in the $150 million round; PR Newswire’s listing corroborates the funding announcement and GIC’s lead role. The reported purchase price for Turso was not disclosed.
Supabase also said it was launching more than one million databases per week. That is a company-reported rate in its October 2 announcement, not an independently verified measurement. Supabase’s announcement gives its account of the strategy and figure.
Why Supabase says it is acquiring Turso
Supabase says software prototypes and tasks performed by AI agents are driving demand for large numbers of small, separate databases. Its stated rationale is that Turso’s approach can provide lightweight databases for these tasks while Supabase continues to build around Postgres for applications that grow beyond them.

Turso says it rebuilt SQLite in Rust and developed a cloud platform where one server can manage millions of databases, loading them when needed and suspending them when idle. Supabase and Turso present this as an architecture suited to smaller, on-demand agent workloads. These are the companies’ descriptions, not independent benchmark results or evidence that the approach is best for every application.
Supabase CEO Paul Copplestone described agents as “the primary users of technology” and said the acquisition would expand what Supabase can offer them. That is his characterization of the market and the company’s strategy, rather than an independently established finding.

How Turso and Supabase describe the database path
| Stage or need | Company framing |
|---|---|
| Small, isolated or temporary tasks | Turso’s SQLite-based databases are presented as lightweight and available on demand. |
| An application that grows | Supabase positions Postgres as a route for applications that outgrow the SQLite stage. |
| Moving between the two | Turso says it plans a path to standard Postgres through Supabase, with deeper integrations anticipated. |
This is a description of the companies’ intended product relationship, not a neutral comparison of SQLite and Postgres or a guarantee that migration will be seamless for every workload. Costa, Turso’s founder, said his goal was to serve “upwards of a billion databases”; that is an ambition, not an achieved customer count or forecast.
What existing Turso users can expect
Turso says its platform, databases, APIs, and workflows will continue, and that Turso Database will remain open source and actively developed. It has also described deeper Supabase integrations and a route to standard Postgres as applications grow. These are announced plans; the announcement does not guarantee future service terms, performance, or a particular migration experience.

What is not yet known about the deal
Contemporaneous reporting does not disclose the acquisition consideration, a closing date, or closing conditions. The sources establish an agreement to acquire Turso, not a completed closing. They also do not provide the precise terms of Supabase’s funding round beyond its size and lead investor, so the $150 million should not be treated as the price paid for Turso or used to infer a company valuation.
