As of October 3, 2026, Chase lists a 50,000-mile welcome offer on the United Gateway Card and an 80,000-mile offer on the United Explorer Card. The Gateway offer is reported as its highest ever; Explorer’s offer matches a previous high rather than setting a new record. Both totals include 10,000 miles for adding an authorized user, so the headline amount is not just a spending bonus.
How the new United card offers compare
Chase’s United card listing labels Gateway “OUR BEST OFFER EVER” and Explorer “OUR BEST OFFER RETURNS.” Independent offer-history reporting distinguishes the records: Gateway’s 50,000-mile total is described as a new high, while Explorer’s 80,000-mile total is tied with a prior high. The offers were observed on October 3, 2026; no expiry date was established, and card offers can change.
| Card | Spending bonus | Authorized-user bonus | Headline total | Annual fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United Gateway | 40,000 miles after $1,000 in purchases within three months of account opening | 10,000 miles for adding an authorized user within the same three-month period | Up to 50,000 miles | $0 |
| United Explorer | 70,000 miles after $3,000 in purchases within three months of account opening | 10,000 miles for adding an authorized user within the first three months | Up to 80,000 miles | $0 in the first year, then $150 |
The current bonus breakdowns are reported by The Points Guy’s current offer summary. Chase’s Explorer product details also state the first-year fee waiver and subsequent $150 fee. For Gateway, Chase’s main listing carries the current 50,000-mile headline, while its Gateway detail page surfaced an older 40,000-mile offer during the same research period. Confirm the terms shown in the live application disclosure before applying.
Which offer is actually a best-ever deal?
Gateway: a reported new high
The 50,000-mile Gateway offer is reported as the card’s highest-ever total. Chase’s “OUR BEST OFFER EVER” label is its own marketing language; offer-history reporting from The Points Guy supports the record-high distinction.

Explorer: a previous high returns
Explorer’s 80,000 miles is a strong offer, but the historical distinction is different: reporting says the total matches a previous high rather than exceeding it. Chase calls it “OUR BEST OFFER RETURNS,” a label consistent with that framing.
Neither mileage total has a guaranteed cash value. The Points Guy’s October 2026 estimates use its own valuations, not values promised by United or Chase; actual redemption value depends on award availability and how a traveler uses the miles.

How to choose between Gateway and Explorer
Do not choose by the top-line mileage figure alone. Compare the amount you can comfortably spend, whether you plan to add an authorized user, the fee after any introductory period, the card’s benefits for your travel habits, and whether you qualify for that specific card’s bonus.
- Gateway may fit if you want a no-annual-fee card and can meet the $1,000 spending threshold. Reaching its full advertised total also requires adding an authorized user within three months.
- Explorer may fit if its United travel benefits justify a $150 annual fee beginning in year two and the $3,000 spending requirement is manageable. Its full advertised total also depends on adding an authorized user within three months.
- Consider the other personal cards only if their benefits fit. The Points Guy’s October 2026 comparison lists Quest at up to 90,000 miles plus 500 Premier qualifying points, with $4,000 in spending over three months and an authorized-user component, and Club at up to 100,000 miles, with $5,000 in spending over three months and authorized-user miles. These are current headline offers, not necessarily those cards’ historical bests; their annual fees differ substantially. See The Points Guy’s October 2026 United card comparison for its listed offers.
Check the card-specific bonus eligibility terms
Chase’s surfaced application disclosures include a card-specific 24-month restriction. For Explorer, the disclosure says applicants must not currently have the card and must not have received a new-cardmember bonus for that same card in the previous 24 months. Gateway’s page shows a similar restriction for that card. These disclosures do not establish a blanket restriction covering every United card. Read the terms attached to the specific offer you intend to apply for; Chase’s product pages are Explorer and Gateway.

Verify the live offer before applying
The terms observed on October 3, 2026, may change, and no end date was verified. The mismatch between Chase’s Gateway listing and its detail page is a reason to rely on the exact offer disclosure displayed during application, rather than assuming every Chase page has refreshed in sync. Check the bonus amount, spending window, authorized-user condition, fee, and eligibility language shown there.
