MakeMyTrip’s Price Drop Protection is a paid, optional add-on that may refund an eligible fare difference if the same flight becomes cheaper after ticket issuance. It is not an automatic refund of every later price drop: the fare must meet specific rules, the payout is capped, and you must complete the trip and claim on time.
How Price Drop Protection works
MakeMyTrip says the add-on is charged per passenger and selected during booking. The eligible period runs from ticket issuance until six hours before the flight’s scheduled departure. If a qualifying lower fare appears in that window, you can submit a claim after completing your trip and within 30 days of the scheduled departure date. See MakeMyTrip’s flight-booking FAQ and Price Drop Protection terms.
The comparison is with the lowest fare MakeMyTrip captured for the same flight during the eligible period. The official terms count only the listed base fare and taxes; they do not promise to match every price a traveller might find elsewhere.
Refund limits and reported starting fees
The following per-passenger maximums come from MakeMyTrip’s terms, accessed October 3, 2026. Launch coverage reported add-on fees starting at ₹229 for domestic flights and ₹349 for international flights; those are reported starting prices, not guaranteed quotes for every booking. Check the amount and terms shown in your own booking flow.
#1 Best Overall
| Trip type | Domestic maximum | International maximum | Reported starting add-on fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| One-way | Up to ₹2,500 per passenger | Up to ₹3,000 per passenger | ₹229 domestic / ₹349 international per passenger, as reported at launch |
| Round-trip | Up to ₹5,000 per passenger | Up to ₹6,000 per passenger | ₹229 domestic / ₹349 international per passenger, as reported at launch |
The fees were reported by Business Standard and Trav Talk in September 2026. The terms list the caps, not a guaranteed payout: any eligible difference is still subject to the applicable ceiling and the service rules.
Which fare drops qualify—and which do not
The official terms exclude lower prices tied to flash sales, promo codes, coupons, cashback, loyalty programs, non-public fares, system errors, or temporary anomalies. They also exclude specified changes in taxes or airport and regulatory fees. A headline fare or offer price therefore may not count, even if it appears cheaper.

- Same flight: The comparison must concern the same booked flight.
- Eligible fare components: Only the base fare and taxes specified in the terms count.
- Eligible window: The lower fare must be captured after ticket issuance and no later than six hours before scheduled departure.
What can void the protection
You must take the same flight you booked. Cancelling, rescheduling, or modifying the booking—including changing the travel date—voids the service under the terms. If plans may change, that restriction matters as much as the refund cap.
How to decide whether to add it
Compare the fee per passenger with the relevant trip-type and route cap, then consider whether you can keep the itinerary unchanged and whether the fare rules fit the prices you are likely to encounter. A cap is only a maximum, not a forecast of what you will receive. The sources do not publish an independently verifiable rate showing how often fares drop enough to produce a claim, so there is no supported basis for assuming the add-on will pay for itself.

MakeMyTrip’s terms apply to bookings through MakeMyTrip (India) Private Limited’s platform. The company reserves the ability to change or withdraw the service, and the reviewed sources do not establish that the add-on or fee is displayed uniformly for every user or geography. These products apply at different stages. Price Lock is a pre-purchase fare hold; Price Drop Protection concerns a qualifying fare decrease after the ticket has been issued. The latter does not hold a fare before purchase.
