Lockheed Martin Announces Multiple New Defense Contracts in 2026

Lockheed Martin’s 2026 announcements span four distinct defense programs. Their headline values are contract ceilings and award figures, not a single total of money already spent.

Lockheed Martin announced several separate U.S. defense contract awards in 2026, including agreements for Precision Strike Missile Increment 2, THAAD interceptors, C-130J training and PAC-3 MSE production. Their published values range from up to $1.2 billion to tens of billions of dollars, but they are not one combined award—and the announced ceilings do not show how much the government has obligated or paid.

Which Lockheed Martin defense contracts were announced?

The announcements cover different systems, customers, contract forms and time periods. The figures below are the amounts Lockheed Martin reported, not a consistent measure of funded spending. In particular, an IDIQ or undefinitized contract action (UCA) ceiling does not establish the amount obligated.

Announcement date Customer or agency Program Contract form and reported value Term and scope
April 14, 2026 Pentagon C-130J Maintenance and Aircrew Training System (MATS) IV Ten-year sole-source IDIQ; up to $1.9 billion Training devices and support for C-130J aircrews and maintainers, including courseware, operations, logistics support and engineering services. Lockheed Martin said support would expand to the U.S. Navy Reserve and U.S. Coast Guard. Lockheed Martin announcement
June 24, 2026 U.S. government; the release describes a framework agreement Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors Seven-year UCA; up to $35 billion Intended to quadruple interceptor production. The company said the action executes a framework agreement and supports production capacity and the defense industrial base. Lockheed Martin announcement
August 2026 Not stated in the cited announcement details PAC-3 Missile Segment Enhancement (MSE) Seven-year UCA modification described in the release body as up to $53.86 billion; the headline uses $58.62 billion for the multiyear production award Supports interceptor production. Lockheed Martin said Camden, Arkansas employment was planned to rise from 1,200 to approximately 1,850. Lockheed Martin announcement
September 21, 2026 U.S. Army Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) Increment 2 IDIQ; up to $1.2 billion Initial procurement and future orders of Increment 2 missiles, follow-on production and continued development. The company said work would take place at Lockheed Martin facilities and across its U.S. industrial base. The announcement also cited a second flight test demonstrating engagement of moving maritime targets. Lockheed Martin announcement

Why the headline amounts are not a spending total

“Up to” identifies a ceiling, not a guarantee that the full amount will be spent. An IDIQ sets terms for orders that may be issued over time; a UCA is an action taken before all contract terms are definitized. The announced values therefore cannot be treated as cash already paid, current funding or obligations without separate award-level funding data. The cited announcements do not establish a comparable total of obligations across these awards.

The four figures also describe unlike things: two IDIQ ceilings, a THAAD UCA ceiling, and a PAC-3 MSE modification alongside a larger headline figure for a multiyear production award. Adding them would produce a misleading sum rather than a meaningful measure of new government spending.

How to read the PAC-3 MSE figures

The PAC-3 MSE announcement needs particular care: Lockheed Martin’s August headline says $58.62 billion, while the announcement body describes a seven-year UCA modification of up to $53.86 billion. Those are not identical figures. The body amount is the stated modification ceiling; the larger number is the broader multiyear production award figure used in the headline. Neither should be presented as the amount already funded or paid.

What Lockheed Martin says the awards support

The announcements describe production, development, training and industrial-capacity work across several defense programs. For THAAD, Lockheed Martin said the seven-year action is intended to quadruple interceptor production. Its release quoted Tim Cahill, president of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, calling the award “a transformational shift to multiyear procurement.” That is the company’s characterization, not an independent assessment of the award’s effect.

For PAC-3 MSE, Lockheed Martin also projected that employment at its Camden, Arkansas site would increase from 1,200 to approximately 1,850. This is a company-reported workforce plan, not a verified count of jobs already added.
