Gladstone Capital announced that Michael McQuigg would succeed Robert Marcotte as president, effective October 1, 2026. Marcotte became CEO on March 20, 2026, and the announcement said David Gladstone would remain chairman. The roles are distinct: McQuigg’s announced appointment is president, not CEO.
Who is Gladstone Capital’s president?
In a March 23, 2026 announcement, Gladstone Capital said its board had approved McQuigg’s appointment as president after a transition period, with an effective date of October 1, 2026. The company described him as Marcotte’s successor in that role. The announcement establishes the approved date; it does not, by itself, independently confirm the officers listed after that date.
Before the planned promotion, McQuigg was Gladstone Capital’s executive vice president and senior managing director, positions he had held since 2021. He joined the Gladstone Companies in April 2015. The company’s filing says his work focused on originating and managing middle-market debt and equity investments for private-equity sponsors and owner-operators. His earlier roles included Deerpath Capital and H.I.G. Capital; he holds degrees from Columbia Business School and Johns Hopkins University. Gladstone Capital’s March 23, 2026 Form 8-K
Is Robert Marcotte still CEO?
Marcotte was appointed CEO effective March 20, 2026, according to the company’s succession announcement and Form 8-K. He had been president since joining Gladstone Capital in December 2013. The announced plan moved him into the CEO role first, then named McQuigg to succeed him as president on October 1.

David Gladstone stepped down as CEO effective March 20 and was to remain chairman of the board. John Sateri was appointed chief investment officer effective that day, while Andrew Ahlberg was appointed executive vice president effective immediately. Those related appointments do not change the distinction between Marcotte’s CEO role and McQuigg’s announced presidency.
What is confirmed about the October 1 transition?
As of October 3, 2026, the announced effective date had passed. The March 23 announcement and the company’s June 30 quarterly filing establish the planned October 1 appointment, but the quarterly filing predates the effective date. The issuer’s filings index lists an October 1 current report, though the indexed result does not show its subject or text. An indexed company team page still listed Marcotte as both CEO and president, so it should not be treated as confirmation of the post-transition roster. Gladstone Capital SEC filings index

Why the roles matter to Gladstone Capital investors
Gladstone Capital describes itself as a publicly traded business development company (BDC) investing in debt and equity securities, primarily secured first- and second-lien term loans to lower-middle-market U.S. businesses. In its March 23, 2026 release, the company reported 715 loans and investments across 294 companies and approximately $3.3 billion in invested capital through December 31, 2025, before principal repayments and realizations. Those are historical company figures, not evidence of the effect or success of the leadership transition.
The company framed the changes as a strategic succession plan and continuity of leadership. Marcotte said in the March 23 announcement, “I am also pleased to see Michael McQuigg step into the role of President.” That is the company’s stated perspective, not an independent assessment of the transition’s results.
