Check the amount you may actually qualify for, any membership or transfer charges, how quickly funds arrive, and how repayment will affect your next paycheck. The options below are a starting shortlist—not a ranking based on hands-on testing. Product terms and state availability can change, so confirm the current terms before signing up.
How to compare cash advance apps
“Up to” amounts are advertised ceilings, not guaranteed offers. An app may set your limit based on its eligibility rules and information about your income, deposits, account activity, or employment. A large headline limit is not useful if you qualify for less—or if getting the money quickly costs more than you can afford.
Compare the full cost and repayment mechanics, not just whether an app says it charges interest. Costs may include a recurring membership, a fee for expedited delivery, and an optional tip. CFPB reporting identifies all of these fee types in the market; an optional tip can still affect what you pay in practice. Ask what the advance costs if you choose the free transfer option and what it costs if you need the money sooner.
- Amount and eligibility: Check the amount offered to you, income or deposit requirements, and whether eligibility depends on using a particular bank account.
- Delivery: Find the free delivery time, any expedited-transfer charge, and whether the advertised speed applies to your bank.
- Repayment: Confirm the due date, whether repayment is automatically debited, and what happens if the debit fails.
- Repeat use: Consider whether the next paycheck will still cover essentials after the advance is repaid.
A CFPB report published in 2024 analyzed eight employer-partnered providers using 2021–2022 data. In that studied segment—not across every direct-to-consumer app—the average worker used 27 advances a year, and more than 90% of workers paid at least one fee in 2022 when employers did not cover costs. The CFPB also calculated a 109.5% APR for a typical transaction in its sample; that is a report calculation, not a quoted price for any app below. See the CFPB report on earned wage access and consumer costs for its methods and scope.

10 cash advance apps and early-pay options
This shortlist includes products with different structures: some offer advances or access to earned wages, one is overdraft protection, and one is peer-to-peer lending. An industry comparison lists the ten options below and describes differing advertised limits, fees, and delivery speeds, but those figures were reported as advertised on June 12, 2026, not independently verified or guaranteed for an individual applicant. Because eligibility, pricing, and availability vary, check each provider’s current official terms before relying on a particular amount, cost, or delivery estimate.
-
EarnIn
Consider it if you want to investigate access to wages before payday. Check how the service establishes eligibility, what amount it offers in your account, and whether faster delivery costs extra. Confirm repayment timing and the debit method before taking an advance.
-
MoneyLion
MoneyLion is another option to compare for an advance. Review the offer shown to you rather than assuming the advertised maximum is available, and include any membership or expedited-transfer charge in the total cost. Check whether repayment is automatically withdrawn and when.

- Ideal for a bookworm
- Compact for travelling
-
Brigit
Brigit is among the apps to compare, but recurring plan charges can matter even if you borrow only once. The CFPB’s July 2024 public-site survey recorded Brigit direct-to-consumer periodic fees of $8.99–$14.99 per month depending on plan. Those were historical observations, not verified current prices; consult Brigit’s current pricing and cancellation terms before joining.

Chime SpotMe
SpotMe is overdraft protection, not a conventional cash advance. That distinction matters: check the current eligibility rules, account requirements, amount available to you, and how a negative balance is repaid. Do not assume its mechanics or cost match a wage advance app.
-
Dave
Dave is an option to investigate, but read the cost disclosures carefully, including any membership, expedited delivery fee, or tip prompt. The CFPB’s July 2024 public-site survey recorded a $1 monthly periodic fee, a 5% (minimum $5) fee for expedited external-bank transfers, and tips; these are historical observations, not verified current prices.
Rank #3
In November 2024, the FTC announced allegations that Dave advertised advances “up to $500” and instant access while not disclosing an Express Fee until after signup and bank access. The FTC also said Dave disclosed more than $149 million in tip revenue from 2022 through the first six months of 2024, based on the company’s public filings. These are claims and figures reported in the FTC announcement, not a current price list or a statement here about the case’s disposition. See the FTC announcement about its Dave complaint.

Tilt
Tilt, called Empower in some sources, appears on the comparison shortlist. Verify the current product name, terms, eligibility, and state availability directly with the provider. Do not assume older descriptions under the Empower name still apply.

SoLo Funds
SoLo Funds is described as peer-to-peer lending, so it is not the same as an app advancing your own earned wages. Review the loan terms and repayment obligations that apply to the transaction, and understand who provides the funds before proceeding.
-
Varo
Varo is included in the comparison shortlist. Check which account or other eligibility requirements apply, the amount offered to you, and the timing and method of repayment. Do not rely on a general advertised limit as your personal offer.
-
Albert
Albert is another candidate to compare. Before using an advance feature, establish whether a subscription or other charge applies, what free and faster delivery options cost, and when the repayment debit will occur.
-
Klover
Klover rounds out the shortlist. Confirm current eligibility, available amount, delivery timing, and any optional or required charges with the provider. Review how repayment works before accepting funds.

Will the advance leave you short again?
An advance moves money forward; it does not increase the income available across the pay period. If repayment comes out of your next deposit, that paycheck will be smaller by the amount due and any applicable charges. Before accepting, map the repayment date against rent, utilities, food, transportation, and other bills. If the remaining balance will force another advance, the app may be postponing rather than solving the shortfall.
Repeated use is worth particular scrutiny. The CFPB’s 27-advances-per-worker annual average applies to its 2021–2022 sample of employer-partnered providers, not necessarily to any one app or to the full market. The report also found that expedited transfers generated 92.5% of fee revenue in that sample, underscoring why delivery speed belongs in a cost comparison.
Cash advance apps are not all the same legal product
Labels alone do not establish how a product is treated under the law. The CFPB proposed interpretive guidance in 2024 that said many paycheck-advance products may be consumer loans subject to Truth in Lending Act requirements. The bureau’s guidance index later lists multiple guidance documents as withdrawn on May 12, 2025, and a December 2025 advisory opinion concerning earned wage access. That history does not support a single blanket legal conclusion for every app or state. For current legal treatment, consult authoritative guidance that covers the specific product and jurisdiction.
The CFPB’s July 2024 announcement described its interpretive rule as a proposal and quoted Director Rohit Chopra: “Paycheck advance products are often marketed to and designed for employers, rather than employees.” That statement was made in connection with the proposal, not a statement of current binding law. See the CFPB’s July 2024 announcement and its guidance index.
Do not confuse app pricing with conventional payday-loan pricing. The CFPB says conventional payday-loan charges can range from $10 to $30 per $100, depending on state law; its example of borrowing $300 and repaying $345 assumes a $15 charge per $100. That is a payday-loan illustration, not a price estimate for the apps in this article. See the CFPB’s payday-loan cost explanation.
Quick Recap
A quick checklist before you accept
- Write down the amount offered and the exact repayment date.
- Calculate the total dollars due, including a membership, expedited delivery, and any tip you choose.
- Check whether repayment is automatic and what happens if the debit is returned or your balance is too low.
- Compare the free delivery time with the paid option; pay for speed only if the timing is worth the charge.
- Make sure the paycheck after repayment still covers essential expenses.
- Check current provider terms and state availability; comparison-site figures can become stale.
