For U.S. applicants, the strongest October 2026 welcome offers depend on what you can comfortably spend, how you will redeem the rewards, and whether you qualify—not just the largest headline number. Offers listed below were reported on or before October 3, 2026; they are examples to compare, not a universal ranking. Check the issuer’s application page for the exact live offer and terms before applying.
October 2026 welcome offers to compare
A welcome bonus is a one-time reward for new cardmembers who meet the offer’s conditions, as Chase explains in its welcome-bonus guide. The offers below come from a September 29, 2026 roundup and Citi’s issuer-hosted offers page. Their availability and terms can differ by application channel.
| Card | Reported welcome offer | Annual fee | What to weigh |
|---|---|---|---|
| American Express Platinum | Up to 175,000 points after $12,000 in purchases within six months, according to Doctor of Credit’s September 29 roundup. | $895 | “Up to” means the exact offer may vary. The roundup does not establish a cash value for the points; assess them against redemptions you would actually use. Source: Doctor of Credit. |
| Citi AAdvantage Executive | 125,000 miles after $15,000 in purchases within five months, in the September roundup and on Citi/American Airlines’ offers page. | $695 | American Airlines miles are not unrestricted cash. Compare the required spend and fee with travel you expect to book using the miles. Doctor of Credit; Citi/American Airlines. |
| Capital One Venture | 75,000 points after $4,000 in purchases within three months, plus a $300 hotel or vacation rental credit through Capital One Travel, as reported in the September roundup. | $95, not waived | The $300 credit is restricted to its stated Capital One Travel use; it is not equivalent to unrestricted cash. Consider it only if you would book eligible travel through that portal. Source: Doctor of Credit. |
| Citi / AAdvantage MileUp | $100 statement credit plus 15,000 miles after $500 in purchases within the first three months, as listed on Citi/American Airlines’ offers page. | None, according to that page | The modest spending threshold may be easier to meet from planned purchases. The offer page says offers may vary and may not be available elsewhere. Source: Citi/American Airlines. |
| Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select | 80,000 miles after $3,500 in purchases within four months, as listed on Citi/American Airlines’ offers page. | $99, waived for the first year under the listed offer | Account for the annual fee after the first year if you plan to keep the card. Source: Citi/American Airlines. |
| Chase Freedom Flex | $250 after $500 in purchases within the first three months, on Chase’s issuer page. | Not stated on the cited offer page | Chase says eligibility requires that you do not currently have the card and have not received its new-cardmember bonus in the prior 24 months. Doctor of Credit says its roundup considers whether an offer is at its highest level and presents offers in ranked order, but it is not a definitive ranking for every applicant. It also leaves some application rules to individual review pages. The offers and fees above are subject to change; the issuer’s live application terms should control.
How to decide which bonus is best for you
Start with rewards you can actually use
A large point or mile total does not by itself establish a large dollar value. Redemption choices differ: Chase notes that rewards may be used for cash back, travel, upgrades, or statement credits, and recommends considering which option fits your goals in its guide to using a welcome bonus. The offers listed here do not provide a shared, dated valuation method for comparing every point and mile with cash, so avoid treating them as equal or assigning a fixed cash value without checking the redemption you would use.

Match the spending target and deadline to your normal budget
Divide the required purchases by the number of months in the offer window to understand the pace the threshold implies. For example, the Venture offer’s $4,000 over three months requires a faster pace than MileUp’s $500 over three months; this is a simple comparison of the stated thresholds, not a recommendation to spend more. Count only purchases that qualify under the issuer’s terms, and do not buy things you would not otherwise buy to earn a bonus.
Include the fee and any restricted credit
Compare the fee with the reward you can realistically redeem, not just the headline total. A portal-only hotel or vacation rental credit is useful only if you can use it under its restrictions. For a card whose fee is waived for the first year, include the later annual fee in the decision if you expect to keep the account. The offers table identifies the fees stated in the cited offer information; where that information did not state a fee, it says so rather than assuming one.

Check eligibility and offer availability before applying
Read the issuer’s terms for the specific offer
Prior-card ownership, previous bonuses, eligible purchase definitions, and the time allowed to meet a spending threshold can all affect whether you receive an offer. Chase’s Freedom Flex page, for example, states its card-specific 24-month bonus restriction alongside the requirement not to have the card. Do not assume that rule applies to the other cards in the table; check each application’s terms.
Distinguish public listings from channel-specific offers
Citi/American Airlines’ offers page cautions that offers may vary and may not be available elsewhere. A bonus shown on an issuer page or in a roundup may therefore differ from what appears through another application route, and a roundup’s listing is not a guarantee that you will see the same offer. Confirm the bonus, spending deadline, fee, and restrictions on the application page you intend to use.

Apply only if the card fits without relying on approval
A listed welcome offer does not guarantee approval. Decide whether the card makes sense for your ordinary spending and redemption plans even if the bonus is not awarded; do not stretch your budget or carry costly debt to chase a one-time reward.
