Allianz announced the appointments on October 1, 2026. Kroetz is to succeed Tomas Kunzmann at Allianz Partners. Kunzmann’s separate appointment to the Allianz SE Board of Management is scheduled to begin January 1, 2027, not on the same date as the CEO changes. Allianz’s announcement says regulatory approval is required; until that condition is met and the planned date arrives, these are announced transitions rather than completed appointments.
Who are the incoming CEOs?
Philipp Kroetz at Allianz Partners
Kroetz has led Allianz Direct since January 2022. Allianz describes the business as its European direct property and casualty insurer and credits his tenure with renewing its platform and expanding its customer base across five European markets. Allianz’s 2021 notice said his appointment as Allianz Direct CEO was effective January 1, 2022, subject to regulatory approval. The earlier notice provides that appointment history.
In its October 2026 announcement, Allianz reported that Allianz Direct had more than 3.2 million customers across five European markets. For 2025, it reported total business volume above €1.5 billion, year-over-year growth of 23%, and a 95% combined ratio. Allianz also said the customer rating improved from 4.4 to 4.6 stars, without naming the rating platform in the announcement. These are figures reported by Allianz, not independently verified measures.

Laurent Floquet at Allianz Direct
Floquet became Allianz Partners COO in January 2025. Allianz’s biography says he previously served on the company’s Board of Management with responsibility for Assistance, held Mobility & Assistance leadership, regional CEO and sales leadership roles, and joined Allianz in 2014 after more than ten years as an Accenture partner focused on insurance. This background is based on Allianz’s account of his career.
What happens to Tomas Kunzmann and the Allianz Partners COO role?
Kunzmann is due to join the Allianz SE Board of Management on January 1, 2027. Allianz presents his move and the CEO appointments as part of a continuity and growth transition. The announcement does not name a successor to Floquet as Allianz Partners COO; Allianz says that appointment will be announced in due course.

Why does Allianz say the leadership change matters?
Allianz frames the transition around its “Connected Platforms” strategy, describing customer-facing digital and cross-border models spanning motor, home, travel, assistance and health. This is the company’s strategic rationale, rather than an independent assessment of the businesses or a forecast of how the changes will affect customers.
