Yes. Stability AI says you can use music and sound effects generated through its hosted Stable Audio service commercially in videos, games, apps and software, including on the Free plan. That permission is subject to the current Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy—and it does not guarantee that a particular track is copyright-clear, exclusive or free of third-party rights issues.
What Stability AI permits for hosted Stable Audio
For tracks generated through Stable Audio subscriptions or its API, Stability AI’s commercial licensing guide permits commercial use across its Free, Solo, Creator, Pro, Studio and Max plans, as well as pay-as-you-go API access. It specifically names monetized videos on platforms such as YouTube and Twitch, and background or other embedded audio in video games, mobile and web apps.
The guide also says a track generated on the Free plan retains commercial-use status if you upgrade later; an upgrade is not required to commercialize that earlier track. The permission is Stability AI’s contractual position for its hosted service, not a blanket clearance from everyone who might hold rights in or be affected by an output.
Hosted service and self-hosted models have different rules
Do not treat permission for hosted generation as permission to run downloaded model weights commercially. The applicable rules depend on how you generate the audio:

Stability AI’s Core Models page lists Stable Audio Open 1.0 and Stable Audio 3.0 Small and Medium under its Community License framework. It warns that models outside the list are subject to their individual licenses. Check the exact version and its license before self-hosting; the terms for one version do not automatically carry over to another.
For the self-hosted Stable Audio 3.0 Small and Medium models covered by that framework, the licensing guide says a user or its affiliates exceeding $1 million in annual revenue, individually or in aggregate, must request a separate Stability AI license. This threshold belongs to the self-hosted Community License discussion; it is not a stated eligibility limit for every hosted subscription user. Confirm how the current license applies to your organization.

Stability AI’s May 20, 2026 Stable Audio 3.0 announcement describes Small SFX, Small and Medium as open weights, and Large as available through the API and for enterprise deployment. It also describes product generation lengths, including up to 6:20 for Medium. Those are product and deployment statements, not additional licensing permissions.

The Terms of Service, effective September 30, 2026, cover Stable Audio and its API. They say users may access and use the services only in compliance with the Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, applicable supplemental terms or guidelines, and documentation.

Check rights beyond Stability AI’s permission
The Acceptable Use Policy, also effective September 30, 2026, prohibits using Stability Technology to facilitate violations of law or others’ rights, including intellectual-property and privacy rights. Stability AI’s licensing guide makes users responsible for ensuring their use does not violate anyone else’s rights. Its commercial-use permission is not a warranty that a given track is non-infringing, exclusive, copyrightable or cleared in every territory or on every platform.
Get contract terms in writing when protections matter
The guide directs users seeking contractual indemnification or negotiated protections to ask Stability AI about an Enterprise agreement. The guide itself does not establish what protections an agreement will provide; those depend on the contract actually offered and signed.

Practical checks before publishing or shipping
- For hosted generation: identify whether the track came from a Stable Audio subscription or API, then review the current guide, Terms and AUP for your intended use.
- For self-hosted generation: verify the exact model version and its license, then check any registration, revenue and other conditions that apply.
- For either route: consider whether your particular track, prompts, samples, project and distribution raise third-party rights concerns; Stability AI’s permission does not decide those questions for you.
- If your business needs negotiated protections: discuss an Enterprise agreement with Stability AI and review the contract rather than assuming it provides a particular indemnity.
