Re:

Did AMD’s Data Center Revenue Grow 115%? What the Figure Actually Means

AMD’s 115% Data Center growth figure refers to Q2 2024, not its latest annual rate. Later results show how revenue and growth changed.

Yes—but the 115% figure describes AMD’s Data Center segment revenue growth in the second quarter of 2024 compared with the same quarter a year earlier. It is not AMD’s latest annual growth rate. AMD later reported full-year Data Center revenue growth of 94% in 2024 and 32% in 2025, followed by 107% year-over-year growth in the second quarter of 2026.

What does AMD’s 115% revenue-growth figure refer to?

CNBC Television reported the 115% year-over-year increase on July 30, 2024, referring to AMD’s second-quarter 2024 results. “Year over year” means the quarter’s revenue was compared with the same quarter in 2023; it does not mean revenue rose 115% across a full year. CNBC Television’s July 30, 2024 report covers that quarterly result.

The figure was accurate for that comparison, but its time period matters. AMD’s later full-year reports show different growth rates, and its Q2 2026 result again showed rapid quarterly year-over-year growth.

How did AMD’s Data Center revenue change over time?

Reporting period Data Center revenue Year-over-year change What the figure measures
Q2 2024 Not stated in the cited CNBC report 115% Quarterly revenue compared with Q2 2023; CNBC Television, July 30, 2024.
Full-year 2024 $12.6 billion 94% Annual segment revenue compared with 2023; AMD’s 2024 Annual Report.
Full-year 2025 $16.6 billion 32% Annual segment revenue compared with 2024; AMD’s 2025 results.
Q2 2026 $6.7 billion 107% Quarterly segment revenue compared with Q2 2025; AMD’s Q2 2026 release.

These rates are not a single continuous growth series: the 2024 and 2025 entries cover full years, while the Q2 entries compare individual quarters with the same quarter a year earlier. The 2025 annual increase of 32% does not conflict with Q2 2026 growth of 107%; they cover different periods.

AMD’s 2024 Annual Report says Data Center revenue rose 94% to a record $12.6 billion. The report also says combined sales of EPYC and Instinct data-center products nearly doubled year over year and contributed approximately 50% of AMD’s annual revenue. AMD’s 2025 results put Data Center revenue at $16.6 billion, up 32%, driven by EPYC CPUs and Instinct GPUs. Its Q2 2026 results report $6.7 billion in Data Center revenue, up 107% year over year, also driven by demand for EPYC processors and Instinct GPUs.

What is driving AMD’s Data Center business?

EPYC server processors

EPYC is AMD’s server CPU line. CPUs handle broad server workloads, including general-purpose computing and cloud infrastructure. AMD names EPYC processors as a driver of Data Center growth in both its 2025 annual results and Q2 2026 release.

Instinct GPUs

Instinct GPUs are accelerators used in data-center computing, including AI and high-performance computing workloads. AMD also identifies Instinct products as a growth driver. The reported revenue figures combine activity across the Data Center segment; they do not isolate how much growth came from CPUs versus GPUs.

AMD’s 2024 report noted more than 1,000 AMD-powered public-cloud instances. That indicates deployments across cloud providers, but the count alone does not establish utilization, customer spending, or the profitability of those deployments.

What the growth figures do—and do not—tell investors

Data Center revenue growth is a measure of sales in AMD’s segment, not a direct measure of profit, cash flow, market share, or the return a shareholder earned. A fast growth rate can also be affected by the comparison period: a percentage increase is measured against the revenue base in the prior-year period.

AMD CFO Jean Hu said in the Q2 2026 release that company revenue increased 50% year over year to a record $11.5 billion, with Data Center representing 58% of company revenue that quarter. This places the segment’s scale in context, but company-wide growth and segment growth are distinct measures.

For a fuller investment assessment, readers would need to consider factors such as segment profitability, ongoing product demand, competition, and the cost of building or operating the infrastructure behind sales. The cited revenue announcements do not provide an independent CPU-versus-GPU price/performance comparison or a complete total-cost-of-ownership analysis.
