Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation changed its name to pSemi Corporation with immediate effect on January 22, 2018. The Murata company introduced new branding for its broader semiconductor business, while existing Peregrine-branded products and their support channels remained in place.
What did Peregrine change its name to?
The company formerly known as Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation became pSemi Corporation. The name change was effective immediately, and the company launched a new logo and website. It said the pSemi name would be used for new products.
This was a corporate rebrand, not an announcement that the semiconductor business had closed or that its legacy products were being withdrawn. The company described pSemi as Murata’s semiconductor arm.
Why did Peregrine change its name to pSemi?
The company said the new name reflected a broader mission and product portfolio than its historic focus on RF integration. Murata also framed the change as a push to widen the team’s scope and intellectual-property portfolio. Murata senior executive vice president Norio Nakajima said: “We’ve challenged the pSemi team to broaden their scope, increase their intellectual property (IP) portfolio and grow on a global scale to support more semiconductor innovations.”
#1 Best Overall
- COMPATIBILITY: Development board supporting multiple wireless protocols including Bluetooth
- Thread, Matter, Zigbee, ANT, and NFC at 2.4GHz frequency
- PROCESSOR: Features the advanced nRF54L15 transceiver chip from Nordic Semiconductor for reliable wireless communications
- WIRELESS STANDARDS: Implements IEEE 802.15.4 protocol support for Matter, Thread, and Zigbee networking applications
- DEVELOPMENT PLATFORM: Comprehensive evaluation board designed for testing and prototyping wireless connectivity solutions
At the time of the announcement, the company highlighted two milestones: 30 years of RF-CMOS innovation and shipment of its 4 billionth chip, in an order to Samsung. CEO Stefan Wolff called the launch “the next chapter in this company’s history.” These were milestones cited in the 2018 announcement, not current production figures.
What happened to Peregrine Semiconductor products?
Existing Peregrine Semiconductor products kept the Peregrine name and logo. Their support continued through the same sales teams, distributors and applications engineers. The company said the pSemi branding would roll out across new products, distinguishing its future brand from the legacy product line.

Is pSemi the same company as Peregrine Semiconductor?
Yes. pSemi Corporation is the renamed continuation of Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation described in the January 2018 announcement. The transition paired the pSemi name for the broader business and new products with continued Peregrine branding and support for legacy products.
Is pSemi part of Murata?
Yes. pSemi was presented as a Murata company and Murata’s semiconductor arm. The announcement positioned the rebrand within Murata’s effort to expand the semiconductor business’s scope and global reach.
