Mint Mobile Doubled Unlimited Hotspot Data to 20GB at No Extra Charge

Mint doubled Unlimited’s included hotspot data from 10GB to 20GB in December 2025. The allowance remains listed, but hotspot use is capped and plan pricing renews at regular rates.

Mint Mobile increased the Unlimited phone plan’s included hotspot allowance from 10GB to 20GB per monthly plan cycle on December 10, 2025, without adding a hotspot fee or requiring customers to opt in. Mint’s plan and FAQ pages still list up to 20GB as of August 18, 2026. That is a useful increase for travel or occasional backup internet, but it is not unlimited tethering.

What changed—and who gets the 20GB?

Before the change, Mint Unlimited included 10GB of mobile-hotspot data per monthly cycle. The increase doubled that amount to 20GB, a 100% rise, at no additional charge. The December 10, 2025 announcement described the update as automatic for existing Unlimited customers. Mint continues to list the 20GB allowance on its Unlimited plan page and FAQ.

The 20GB is a dedicated hotspot allowance for the Unlimited phone plan, not an extra 20GB added to every Mint plan. Mint says hotspot is included on all its plans, but customers on lower-data plans draw hotspot use from their regular monthly high-speed data allowance. See Mint’s hotspot details for the current terms.

Mint has continued to advertise 20GB, so the increase appears to be an ongoing plan feature rather than a short-term promotion. That is not a guarantee that plan terms will never change; check the current offer and terms before enrolling.

What the 20GB allowance does—and does not—cover

When you turn on your phone’s hotspot, connected devices use cellular data through the phone. The Unlimited plan’s 20GB cap applies to that tethering use; it does not mean you can share the plan’s on-phone data without limit. Mint says unused monthly data does not roll over, and the allowance resets with the customer’s plan cycle—not necessarily on the first of the calendar month.

After the included hotspot data is used, Mint says customers can add more data through the app. The amount and price of an add-on are not established here; check the current in-app offer before buying. Do not assume extra high-speed hotspot data is included automatically or that a particular speed will apply after the cap.

  • Two Data Packs Included: Each SIMO device comes bundled with 1GB of Free Data every month, forever (12GB Yearly) along with a one-time 30GB pack of Global Data (30GBs expires in 30 days)

Mint lists support for connecting up to 15 devices to a phone hotspot. That is a stated connection limit, not a promise that 15 devices can all use demanding apps at usable speeds at once. Results depend on the phone, signal, wireless conditions, and network congestion.

Other limits on Mint Unlimited

Hotspot data and regular on-phone data are separate considerations. Mint says Unlimited customers who use more than 50GB of regular monthly data may experience reduced speeds for the rest of the cycle in congested locations. That threshold is about regular plan-data use; it does not turn the 20GB hotspot allowance into a 50GB tethering allowance. Mint also lists SD video streaming on the plan page.

Actual hotspot performance depends on coverage and local conditions, and the plan page does not guarantee a particular speed. A phone must support tethering and be compatible with Mint’s network. Before switching, check Mint’s FAQ and coverage and device tools for your phone and location.

What Mint Unlimited costs

As displayed on Mint’s plan page on August 18, 2026, a limited-time new-customer offer was advertised at a $15-per-month equivalent, paid upfront as $45 for three months, $90 for six months, or $180 for 12 months. Taxes and fees are extra. The introductory price applies to the initial term; regular pricing applies afterward.

  • Two Data Packs Included: Each SIMO device comes bundled with 1GB of Free Data every month, forever (12GB Yearly) along with a one-time 30GB pack of Global Data

Mint’s page also displays term-dependent regular plan-card prices of roughly $30–$35 per month, while its broadband disclosure lists a $40 regular monthly price for one three-month introductory configuration. Because the page shows different prices by term and offer, check the checkout screen for the exact renewal price and total before paying. The $15 equivalent is not a promise of the renewal rate.

For readers unsure they need the Unlimited tier, Mint’s plan lineup may show a lower-data option that better matches lighter use. The value of the Unlimited plan depends on the renewal price, upfront commitment, coverage, and how often you actually need hotspot data—not the hotspot allotment alone.

Is 20GB enough for your use?

  • Occasional backup or travel: It can cover email, browsing, document work, and some video calls for limited periods, assuming the phone has a usable signal and you manage other connected devices’ data use.
  • Regular remote work: It may help during a short outage or away from home, but video meetings, software updates, and cloud syncing can consume the allowance. Track usage and avoid large downloads over the hotspot.
  • Streaming-heavy use: Multiple streams, especially at higher quality, can use the bucket quickly. Mint lists SD streaming for the phone plan, but that does not make 20GB a dependable allowance for a household’s ongoing video use.
  • Large downloads or a household’s main internet: Game and operating-system downloads, cloud backups, and several active devices can quickly exceed the cap. A dedicated hotspot or home-internet service is a more appropriate category to compare for sustained use.

Mint Unlimited is most plausible for someone who wants a prepaid phone plan with a substantial included hotspot bucket, has good Mint coverage where they need it, and is comfortable paying for several months in advance. It is a poor fit if the main goal is continuous household broadband or high-volume tethering. Mint’s MINTernet home internet is a separate product; confirm eligibility, terms, and current pricing for your location rather than treating phone hotspot as a substitute.

How to check hotspot use or fix an account that still shows 10GB

  1. Check the Mint Mobile app or Account Management. Look for the data or hotspot usage indicator. Mint’s public FAQ does not establish a universal current menu path for a dedicated hotspot counter.
  2. Text DATA to 6700. Mint says this checks current monthly data usage and the next reset date. It may not replace checking the hotspot-specific indicator in your account.
  3. If your account still shows 10GB, update the app, sign out and back in, and check the online account portal. Contact Mint support to confirm your plan status before changing plans or repurchasing service.
  4. If the hotspot toggle is missing or connected devices have no internet, confirm the phone supports tethering, cellular data and signal are working, and your hotspot allowance has not been exhausted. Device compatibility, carrier settings, VPN settings, or network configuration can also affect setup.

Mint lists UPDATA as a way to add regular 5G/4G LTE data; do not assume that this command adds hotspot data. Check the current app options for hotspot add-ons.

How to decide whether to switch

  • Consider Mint Unlimited if you want up to 20GB of included hotspot data, have verified coverage at the places you use your phone, and accept prepaid terms and a multi-month upfront payment.
  • Compare other prepaid carriers if network choice, monthly billing, or a different coverage footprint matters more. For example, compare Mint with Visible, Tello, or US Mobile using current hotspot terms, renewal pricing, taxes, and network coverage; no single option is best for every location or usage pattern.
  • Look beyond phone plans if you need an always-on connection for work, streaming, or several household devices. Check dedicated hotspot and fixed-wireless options for availability and current data limits rather than relying on a phone-plan hotspot cap.

If you already have a compatible unlocked phone, review Mint’s bring-your-own-phone information and verify compatibility and coverage before committing. Mint advertises a seven-day money-back guarantee for full phone-plan purchases made through its site or app; read the current FAQ terms to confirm eligibility.
