The strongest candidates included the Echo Pop at AU$29, Fire TV Stick 4K Max at AU$59, Kindle Paperwhite from AU$214 and Kindle Scribe at AU$349. These are historical prices, not offers available now. Amazon’s advertised percentage off RRP also does not prove a product was at its lowest recent price, so treat the picks below as leads to assess—not guaranteed bargains.
What Prime Day 2024 offered Australian shoppers
The event ran from 12:01am AEST on Tuesday 16 July to 11:59pm AEST on Sunday 21 July 2024. Amazon described it as its longest Australian Prime Day to that point. It was exclusive to Prime members and covered electronics, appliances, Amazon devices, groceries, beauty, fashion, toys, books, pets and other categories. Amazon said new deals would appear during the event, so stock and prices could change or sell out. Amazon’s Australian deal roundup and event announcement also noted offers through Amazon Global Store, including products from Germany, Japan, the UK and the US.

A listing on Amazon.com.au was not necessarily local stock or an Amazon-sold product. Imported listings could involve longer delivery, regional variations or different warranty support. The exact seller and fulfilment arrangement mattered as much as the headline discount.

Amazon described the Fire TV Stick 4K Max as its most powerful Fire TV Stick at the time; that is a 2024 comparison, not a claim about the current model range. Before choosing a streaming device, check TV compatibility, streaming-service availability and whether the TV already has an interface that meets your needs. The Echo Pop was notable for its low entry price, but its compact speaker is not a substitute for premium audio. The Paperwhite is for focused reading rather than colour, apps or general tablet use. For a Scribe, check the precise generation, storage and included pen bundle: the 2024 configuration may no longer be sold.

Soundbars, headphones and earbuds
- Yamaha SR-C30A soundbar with subwoofer: Amazon advertised 40% off. It was a candidate for someone looking to improve TV sound, subject to checking room fit and connections.
- Sennheiser Momentum 4 Special Edition, Sony WH-1000XM4, selected Apple AirPods and Bose QuietComfort headphones: Amazon included these among its audio deals, but the supplied roundup did not establish one comparable price for each. Compare the exact model and variant for noise cancellation, sound profile, microphone performance, multipoint support, battery life, codec compatibility, model age and Australian warranty arrangements.
Televisions
- Sony Bravia 55-inch X85L: Amazon advertised 20% off.
- LG NanoCell NANO81: Amazon advertised 20% off.
For either TV, verify the exact screen size and model suffix, refresh rate, HDMI 2.1 support, local dimming and HDR performance, and Australian broadcast tuner compatibility. Large-screen delivery also brings practical questions about damage on arrival and return logistics. Check whether Amazon or an external seller is responsible for the listing.
Phones, wearables and VR
- Samsung Galaxy S23, 128GB: Amazon advertised 35% off. It was an established model in 2024, so compare its price and features with newer phones rather than treating the discount as proof of a better buy.
- Garmin Fenix 7 Sapphire Solar: Amazon advertised 50% off. Its outdoor and endurance features could suit serious users; it may be excessive for someone seeking basic activity tracking or notifications. Compare cheaper Garmin models and newer generations.
- Meta Quest 3, 128GB: Amazon listed it among its Prime Day best sellers after the event. Storage matters if you plan to install many large games. Best-seller status indicates popularity, not the lowest price or best value.
Amazon’s post-event list also included Fire TV devices, Kindle Paperwhite, Ring doorbells, Dyson and ECOVACS vacuums, Instant Pot air fryers, AirPods, Sennheiser Momentum 4 headphones, Echo Pop and COSRX skincare. That is a popularity signal, not independent evidence of product quality or a bargain. Amazon’s post-event best-seller account describes what sold, not how each item compared with its normal market price.

Amazon’s roundup did not state a dollar price for each of these products, so the percentage alone cannot establish the actual saving. Check the seller as well as the model: similar listings can differ in accessories, fulfilment or warranty support. For vacuums, account for batteries and tools; for appliances with filters or other consumables, include replacement costs when comparing long-term value.

Best beauty, personal-care and everyday-essential candidates
Skincare and grooming
- NIVEA SPF 50+ sunscreen, 1L: Amazon advertised 53% off. Check the seller, size and batch or expiry information before buying a product applied to skin.
- COSRX Snail Mucin products: Included in Amazon’s advertised beauty offers. Compare the exact product and pack size, and check seller provenance.
- Anua cleansing oil: Amazon advertised 40% off. Check the listing’s size and seller.
- L’Oréal Revitalift Vitamin C Serum: Amazon advertised 50% off. Confirm size, batch or expiry information and seller.
- Philips OneBlade 360: Amazon advertised 43% off. Verify the exact version and what attachments are included.
- Olaplex No. 4 and No. 5 duo: Amazon advertised 30% off. Confirm the set contents and sizes before comparing it with individual products.
For cosmetics, overseas packaging or marketplace listings can complicate comparisons and make provenance harder to assess. Prefer Amazon or an authorised seller where possible, and check whether the listing gives useful batch or expiry details.
Food, household and pet essentials
- Cocobella coconut water: Amazon advertised 46% off.
- Wet Ones wipes: Amazon advertised 41% off.
- Muscle Nation whey protein: Amazon advertised 40% off.
Amazon’s post-event best-seller list also included cleaning products, toiletries, nappies, toilet paper, pantry goods and pet products. For consumables, compare unit price—per litre, kilogram, tablet or wipe—against supermarket prices. Check best-before dates, multipack sizes, storage space and whether a price depends on subscription or recurring delivery. A bulk discount is only useful if you will use the product before it expires.
Fashion, outdoor gear and toys
Amazon’s Australian roundup included Salomon footwear at up to 48% off, as well as fashion, outdoor and toy offers. Lego Star Wars Venator was advertised at 20% off. The roundup also mentioned The North Face and Samsonite offers but did not establish comparable product prices here. “Up to” describes the maximum advertised discount on selected items, not every style or size.

For footwear and clothing, check sizing, exact colour and model, seller and return postage: the cheapest listing is less attractive if fit is uncertain and return shipping is costly. For luggage, verify dimensions and capacity. For toys such as a large Lego set, compare the exact set number and box condition; a lower price on a different set or a used listing is not like-for-like.
How to tell whether a Prime Day deal was genuine value
Amazon’s advertised RRP percentage is a starting point, not proof that the product was unusually cheap. RRP can differ from the recent street price, and a discounted older model or bundle may not be the best option. CHOICE advised shoppers to research products before buying and warned that items can be cheaper at other times of year. CHOICE’s Prime Day buying advice also highlights overseas-delivery and currency considerations.
- Identify the exact item. Record model number, generation, size, capacity and bundle contents. Do not compare a listing that combines multiple variants with a different configuration.
- Check price history. Compare the sale price with the item’s recent Amazon prices, not just the RRP. A price tracker can help, but check the exact variant and understand that tool coverage may vary.
- Compare Australian alternatives. Check major retailers and manufacturer pricing, adding delivery costs so the comparison uses the same total price.
- Inspect seller and fulfilment. Distinguish sold by Amazon AU, fulfilled by Amazon, marketplace-sold and Global Store listings. They can carry different delivery, returns and warranty implications.
- Judge the product, not the markdown. Use independent testing or reputable reviews where available. Check that reviews concern the exact model, and consider maintenance, consumables and model age.
- Calculate the saving in dollars. State what you would otherwise pay for the identical item, including delivery. A large percentage against RRP can still mean a small or nonexistent saving against the usual selling price.
Did shoppers need Prime, and did membership pay off?
Yes. Prime Day 2024 was advertised as a Prime-member event. Amazon’s June 2024 announcement reported a 30-day trial for new customers and membership prices of AU$9.99 per month or AU$79 annually at that time. These are historical 2024 figures, not verified current prices; check Amazon’s Prime page for current terms.

Whether joining made financial sense depended on planned purchases and other benefits. If one planned purchase saved AU$30 and a one-month membership cost AU$9.99 at the reported 2024 rate, the saving exceeded that month’s fee by AU$20.01. A shopper joining for a single deal needed to consider renewal and cancel before it if they did not want to continue. The annual fee made more sense for someone who expected to use delivery or entertainment benefits beyond the sale.
Other time-limited offers during the 2024 event
Amazon’s event announcement listed these historical promotions; none should be treated as available now:
- Selected Prime Video rentals at AU$2.99 or less from 9 to 21 July 2024.
- Three months of Kindle Unlimited at no charge for eligible Prime members who signed up from 24 June to 21 July 2024.
- Three free months of Audible for eligible new members, followed by auto-renewal at AU$16.45 per month unless cancelled.
Amazon also promoted deal alerts through the app and Wish List, and suggested using Alexa shopping-list and deal-query functions. Those features were ways to track offers, not evidence that a listed product was well priced.

Imported listings, returns and warranty checks
Amazon Global Store and Amazon AU local listings are not interchangeable. Before ordering an imported product, check the final checkout total, delivery estimate, plug or charger, regional model, GST or other import-related charges, and whether the manufacturer provides Australian service. CHOICE specifically advised shoppers to make sure they were using the Australian site and to account for currency conversion and overseas delivery costs.
For any listing, check whether the item is new, refurbished or renewed; who pays return postage; who handles the return; and what warranty applies. Marketplace sellers may have different procedures from Amazon. Australian Consumer Law rights may apply, but do not assume that every imported product has local manufacturer service or that every seller offers the same return process.
