Deal status: historical, not confirmed live. In a Presidents’ Day promotion reported on February 9, 2026, Amazon cut the 11-inch iPad Air with M3, 128GB and WifFi to $489.99 from its $599 U.S. starting price. That was $109.01 off before tax, commonly rounded to $110. Apple introduced the successor, iPad Air with M4, in March 2026, so check current prices rather than assuming the old offer remains available.
What exactly was the $489 iPad Air deal?
The promotion covered the 11-inch iPad Air with Apple’s M3 chip, 128GB of storage and WifFi connectivity—not a cellular model or the larger 13-inch version. MacRumors reported the Amazon price at $489.99 on February 9, 2026, against Apple’s $599 U.S. starting price. The exact reduction was $109.01 before tax; “save $110” was rounded promotional wording. MacRumors’ deal report documents that price. Apple’s March 2025 launch announcement lists the 11-inch WifFi model at $599.
The offer was a limited Presidents’ Day sale, not a permanent price cut. Apple announced the M3 Air on March 4, 2025, with availability beginning March 12. The M4 generation was announced March 2, 2026, with availability beginning March 11. The M3 is therefore the previous generation. A later report of an M3 price as low as $449 also means $489 should not be described as its lowest price ever. Nextpit’s 2025 deal report records that lower price.
What did the tablet offer at that price?
The 11-inch M3 Air has a 2360 × 1640 Liquid Retina display rated at 264 pixels per inch, with P3 wide color, True Tone, full lamination and an antireflective coating. It includes a 12MP rear camera, a 12MP landscape front camera with Center Stage, USB-C, Touch ID in the top button and WifFi 6E. Apple lists compatibility with Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil (USB-C) and the Magic Keyboard for iPad Air. Its technical specifications are available from Apple Support.
#1 Best Overall
The M3 chip gives the Air headroom for demanding multitasking, creative apps, games and video work beyond what many casual users need. It supports Apple Intelligence, but availability of individual features depends on software, language, region and rollout; hardware compatibility alone is not a promise that every feature is available everywhere. Apple rates battery life at up to 10 hours, with actual use varying by activity and network conditions. That is Apple’s stated rating, not an independent battery-test result.
How does the discounted M3 compare with the M4 Air?
Apple kept the 11-inch WifFi iPad Air’s U.S. launch price at $599 for the M4 generation. Its March 2026 announcement lists $799 as the 13-inch WifFi starting price. Both generations start at 128GB. The M4 is the current generation; the M3’s appeal depends on finding it at a meaningful discount.

Apple’s M4 launch announcement and M4 technical specifications establish the successor’s pricing and hardware details. If a new M3 costs around $489–$499 and is at least $100 below the comparable M4, it can be the better value for buyers who do not need the newest hardware. If the price gap is small—especially around $50–$100—the M4 is easier to justify for someone keeping a tablet for years or who values its extra memory and connectivity. The M4’s arrival does not make the M3 unusable; it changes how much of a discount makes sense.
Is 128GB enough for your use?
128GB is the entry configuration, and the space available for personal files is lower once iPadOS and preinstalled data are accounted for. It is a sensible fit for streaming, browsing, school documents, handwritten notes, cloud-based work, light photo editing and a moderate app or game collection.

- Consider more storage if you keep large games installed, download films and shows, store an extensive photo library, edit video, or work with large creative projects.
- Think about your ownership period: storage that works today may feel tight if your app and file collection grows over several years.
- Do not assume cloud storage solves every constraint: offline access and project files still use space on the iPad.
When is the M3 a better fit than a base iPad—or a poor fit?
It can make sense for school, notes and casual creative work
For students, note-takers, families and casual creators, the Air pairs a capable chip with Pencil compatibility and a laminated, wide-color display. It also suits buyers who already own compatible accessories, which avoids adding their cost to the purchase. For email, browsing, streaming and basic schoolwork alone, however, the less expensive base iPad may be sufficient; the Air’s extra performance is not automatically worth paying for.
It is not a substitute for every iPad Pro feature
The Air’s display is a 60Hz Liquid Retina panel, not the OLED or ProMotion display sought by some iPad Pro buyers. Nor does an M-series processor by itself make the Air equivalent to a Pro in display technology or other premium features. Buyers who specifically want cellular service, a high-refresh-rate screen or OLED should compare models on those requirements rather than chip name alone.

What will the purchase cost beyond the tablet?
The reported sale price covered the tablet, not a complete work setup. Apple Pencil Pro or Apple Pencil (USB-C), a keyboard, protective case, screen protector, USB-C hub, external storage and AppleCare+ are separate purchase decisions. Current accessory prices and coverage terms are not established here, so check the relevant product listing before budgeting.
A useful personal-finance check is to total only the accessories you will actually use. If adding a keyboard and stylus pushes the setup close to the price of a newer Air or a laptop, compare those complete costs before buying. A case or inexpensive third-party keyboard may be more sensible than Apple’s full keyboard if you only type occasionally.

What to verify before buying M3 clearance stock
Because the original promotion is historical, any M3 listing now may have a different price, seller or condition. Confirm the details on the live product page and at checkout:
- Verify the listing says M3, 11-inch, 128GB and WifFi; do not confuse it with M4, M2, 13-inch or cellular configurations.
- Check whether the unit is new, renewed, refurbished or open-box, and inspect who sells and fulfills it.
- Read the return window and confirm Apple warranty eligibility for that exact unit.
- Check that the color and configuration in the cart match the listing; discounts can be color- or inventory-specific.
- Compare the final pre-tax price with the current M4 price. A displayed saving against Apple’s MSRP may not reflect the retailer’s recent selling price.
- Include sales tax, shipping and any accessories you actually need in your budget.
Should you buy the M3 Air if you find it near $489?
Consider a new, warranty-eligible M3 Air near $489–$499 if 128GB is enough, WifFi meets your needs and it is at least $100 cheaper than the comparable M4. Choose the M4 if the gap is narrow or you value the newer generation, 12GB memory and WifFi 7. If your needs are limited to basic browsing and media, compare the base iPad too; if you need more storage, cellular or a Pro display, this base M3 deal is the wrong configuration.
