What changed—and why users are frustrated
The complaints are about more than one part of Rewards. Some users say quizzes, polls, and other activities have been reduced or removed, which can mean fewer ways to earn points. Others say the redesigned dashboard makes activities harder to find. Separately, Windows Central reported higher point costs for certain Xbox gift cards in the U.S. and U.K. in February 2026.

Those are distinct issues: earning opportunities affect how quickly a user can accumulate points; redemption costs affect how many points a particular reward requires; and the redesign affects how users find and claim rewards. The available reporting does not provide a complete before-and-after comparison for every country or account.
Microsoft Q&A posts include questions such as “Why were Microsoft Rewards reduced so drastically?” and “Is microsoft going to revert their changes on the rewards program?” A U.S. dashboard thread also asks why the new layout and tiers appeared and says, “I want the old Level 2 back please.” These posts show individual users’ concerns; they do not establish how common those views are.

Reported gift-card point costs in the U.S. and U.K.
Windows Central reported in February 2026 that the points required for some Xbox gift-card redemptions increased in the United States and United Kingdom. Its examples were described as roughly a 5.3% increase:

What the redesigned tiers and dashboard mean
On April 18, 2026, Windows Central reported on a redesigned program featuring Member, Silver, and Gold tiers, monthly bonuses, and more earning opportunities. The report described the rollout as expanding across markets, with parts of the system already visible in some regions. That points to a staged rollout, not a single global change that reached every account at once.
A new tier structure and dashboard can change the way users see their status, benefits, and available tasks even when the underlying point costs or activities are a separate matter. The reporting does not give a single, complete set of tier thresholds and benefits for every market, nor does it establish that all users saw the same layout or timing.

Has Microsoft explained the individual cuts?
In a March 2026 Microsoft Q&A reply, external staff moderator Alex-L said: “What Microsoft has stated publicly is that Microsoft Rewards activities, point values, and availability change over time by design.” The answer acknowledges that these elements can change, but it is not a detailed explanation of why a particular quiz, offer, or point value changed.
Microsoft’s Services Agreement says it “reserves the right to change, modify, discontinue, or cancel the Rewards Program or any part thereof at any time, in its sole discretion, and without prior notice.” That language states Microsoft’s contractual discretion; it does not identify the business reason for any specific 2026 change. The sources cited here do not establish that Rewards is ending or explain the motive for the reported changes.

How to check what your points are worth now
- Open your Microsoft Rewards dashboard while signed in to the account you use for Rewards.
- Check the available rewards and the point cost shown for the specific country and account. Offers and availability can vary by country, and some cards may not be available at a given time.
- Review the earning activities currently listed on that dashboard rather than assuming a task or point value from an older report still applies.
- Use the dashboard’s displayed balance and redemption options to decide whether to redeem. Microsoft Support says it cannot tell users when a gift card will be restocked or removed.
This is especially important before assigning a cash value to a points balance: the cited U.S. and U.K. examples cannot establish the value of points for users elsewhere or the options currently available to a particular account.
