Roofing companies get better results from Google Ads by optimizing for accepted opportunities and sold jobs—not just clicks, calls, or form submissions. Use standard Search campaigns when you need control over queries, landing pages, and budgets; consider Local Services Ads (LSAs) for verified local placement and pay-per-valid-lead billing if your business is eligible. Then connect lead tracking to sales outcomes so you can see which services and locations are actually worth funding.
Choose the ad product that fits the job
Standard Search and Local Services Ads can both put a roofing company in front of people looking for help, but they differ in how you control campaigns and pay for leads. Roofing is listed among the U.S. home-service categories eligible for LSAs in Google’s product documentation. Eligibility, verification, and availability depend on the business and market.
| Factor | Standard Search | Local Services Ads |
|---|---|---|
| Billing | Generally charged for ad clicks; a click is not necessarily a lead. | Charged per valid lead. Google describes an average weekly budget and monthly maximum; lead prices vary by location, job type, lead type, and bidding mode. |
| Campaign control | More control over keywords, search terms, ad messages, landing pages, schedules, geography, and exclusions. | Local placement through an LSA profile, subject to category, service-area, and verification requirements. |
| Setup considerations | Build campaigns around service and business objectives, with relevant ads and destination pages. | Check eligibility and complete required verification; keep service categories, areas, hours, licenses, insurance, and profile details accurate. |
| Lead-quality handling | Assess leads through call, form, CRM, and offline conversion tracking. | Review lead feedback and credits where available. Google says invalid or low-quality leads may be reassessed and can receive credits in eligible markets. |
Choose LSAs when the company is eligible and values local placement with per-valid-lead billing. Choose Search when query, offer, landing-page, or geographic control is important. The two can be evaluated side by side, but compare their accepted leads and booked inspections—not simply the number of contacts or clicks.
Define what counts as a good lead
Google defines a conversion as an ad interaction that leads to something valuable to the business, such as a call or purchase. For a roofer, set primary conversions around actions sales can validate: a qualified phone conversation, an in-area estimate request, a booked inspection, or a sold job. Treat page views and other low-intent activity as secondary signals rather than the goal you ask campaigns to optimize.

Set up distinct conversion actions for website activity, phone calls, and offline outcomes. Where possible, import qualified leads and sold-job outcomes from the CRM or call system. That gives you a way to distinguish a campaign that generates many inquiries from one that produces revenue.
Organize Search campaigns around roofing intent
Group closely related searches so the keyword, ad, and landing page describe the same service. Start with the work your company actually accepts and the areas it serves; create a separate campaign or budget grouping when services or geographies have materially different economics.
Build service themes
- Repair and emergency response: roof repair, roof leak repair, and urgent service.
- Replacement: roof replacement and reroofing.
- Storm damage: roof repair after storms and inspection requests. Do not promise an insurance claim outcome.
- Commercial work: commercial roofing and flat-roof services, if offered.
- Inspection and maintenance: roof inspections and ongoing maintenance.
- Brand and location: searches for the company name and the specific service areas it covers.
Research and refine queries
Use Google Keyword Planner to discover terms, then review the Search terms report to see what people actually searched. Google documents broad, phrase, and exact match types. Broad match uses contextual signals, so assess it against qualified-conversion data rather than click volume alone, and keep exclusions current.
Add negative keywords for work you do not do, employment or training searches, DIY research, free-material queries, and locations outside your coverage. Revisit the list as search terms reveal irrelevant demand; avoid excluding a term merely because it has low volume if it has produced a valuable job.

Use responsive search ads with multiple relevant headlines and descriptions. Include the service and location, a credible proof point, and a response-time statement only if operations can consistently meet it. Mention financing or warranties only when genuinely available and applicable. Give the reader one clear next step, such as calling or requesting an inspection.
Send each service theme to a page that repeats the same service and coverage area, explains why the company is qualified, and makes it easy to call or submit a request. Add only the qualification questions needed to route the inquiry—such as property location, service needed, and urgency—so sales can prioritize without making a simple request unnecessarily difficult. Google recommends multiple ad assets and close alignment among keywords, ads, and landing pages.
When to use a lead-form asset
A Google lead-form asset can capture an inquiry within the ad. Test it only if someone is responsible for prompt follow-up and the company has a defined way to qualify submissions. Google offers a “more qualified” option that adds steps and generally trades submission volume for stronger intent; “more volume” may suit a team able to screen and follow up efficiently.
Track calls through to inspections and sales
Roofing leads often arrive by phone, so call count alone is not enough. Enable call reporting and choose a minimum call duration only after reviewing real calls: an arbitrary threshold can count unhelpful calls or exclude useful short ones. Record the outcome of each inquiry, including service requested, location, qualification, inspection booked, estimate issued, and sale value.

Google says imported call conversions are the most precise way to measure which calls lead to sales and other valuable actions. Website call conversions can measure calls for up to 60 days after an ad click. Import qualified and sold outcomes where possible, so budget decisions can reflect job quality and value instead of treating every call equally.

Close the loop on lead handling
Campaign performance depends partly on what happens after the ad. Route calls and forms to a monitored owner, and make sure advertised hours match actual response coverage. Tag duplicate, invalid, out-of-area, and non-service inquiries in the call system or CRM so they do not distort qualified-lead reporting.
For LSAs, review lead feedback and credit status where those features are available. Google’s LSA reporting API includes fields such as lead type, status, creation date, and charge or feedback status, which can support a more consistent reconciliation of leads and charges.

Inspect new search terms, add appropriate negatives, and pause messages or themes that repeatedly attract the wrong job type. Shift budget toward combinations that produce accepted opportunities, while accounting for sales capacity and response speed. For LSAs, reconcile valid leads and eligible credits rather than equating every contact with a billable, useful opportunity.
There is no universal roofing cost-per-lead figure to use as a target here: Google’s cited product documentation does not publish a roofing-specific benchmark. Actual lead costs and value vary with market, season, service mix, competition, and follow-up execution, so use your own qualified-lead and sold-job data to set targets.
