QTS announced in August 2013 that it planned to raise $300 million in an IPO and invest up to $277 million expanding customer space at seven existing data centers. The IPO later closed on October 15, 2013. The expansion figures were announced plans, not confirmation that every proposed project or allocation was completed.
What was QTS’s IPO?
QTS Realty Trust, then a data-center operator, said it planned to convert to a real estate investment trust and list on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker QTS. Rich Miller reported the announcement for Data Center Knowledge on August 19, 2013. QTS subsequently completed the offering: an SEC filing documents the October 15, 2013 closing, including the underwriters’ fully exercised option for a total of 14,087,500 Class A shares. The company’s 2013 Form 10-Q gives the IPO price as $21 per share. SEC Form 8-K; SEC Form 10-Q.
Those figures describe a completed 2013 transaction, not a current IPO offer or a present-day ticker opportunity.
How much did QTS plan to raise, and what was the expansion?
The proposed IPO was for $300 million. Separately, QTS outlined up to $277 million in planned investment over the following two years to add more than 312,000 square feet of customer space across seven data centers. The company said the work would expand existing campuses rather than depend on constructing new facilities or acquiring additional land or properties.

QTS described its approach in the filing as follows: “We believe our redevelopment pipeline provides us with a multi-year growth opportunity at very attractive risk-adjusted returns without the need to construct new buildings or acquire additional properties or land for development.” This was the company’s stated rationale, not an independent assessment of projected returns or execution.

The IPO established QTS Realty Trust as a publicly traded company in 2013, but its public-company status is historical. An SEC post-effective amendment dated August 31, 2021 documents a successor merger and termination of the registered offering. A QTS company release dated August 26, 2026 describes QTS as a Blackstone portfolio company. These later records put the IPO in context; they do not turn the old QTS ticker into a current investment opportunity. SEC Post-Effective Amendment No. 3; QTS release, August 26, 2026.
