The transaction brought a U.S. specialist in data-center cabinets, racks, enclosures, power and cooling solutions into Legrand’s digital-infrastructure expansion strategy. Legrand did not disclose a purchase price.
When did Legrand acquire Electrorack?
Legrand’s North American announcement was dated January 7, 2011. The company described the transaction as a purchase of Electrorack Products Company, a U.S. business serving large data-center facilities, including “white rooms”—the controlled spaces that contain computing and network equipment. Legrand’s announcement and the contemporaneous North American release are the primary transaction records.
What did Electrorack make?
Legrand called Electrorack “a US specialist in VDI cabinets.” In practical terms, its product role was the physical infrastructure that houses and organizes data-center equipment: cabinets, racks and enclosures, supported by power and cooling solutions. Electrorack designed and produced systems for large facilities rather than operating as a general-purpose office-furniture supplier.
The company’s established relationships with large U.S. corporations were part of the strategic appeal Legrand identified. Its cabinet and enclosure range also complemented Legrand’s Ortronics business, which was associated with structured connectivity and related digital-infrastructure products.

What figures did Legrand disclose?
| Item | Figure or description | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| Employees | More than 90 | Historical workforce figure reported by Legrand in the 2011 announcement. |
| 2010 sales | More than $23 million | Legrand’s expected sales figure; the release did not present it as an audited result. |
| White-room market outlook | 10% annual U.S. growth over the following years | A contemporary Legrand forecast, not a verified measure of subsequent market performance. |
| Purchase price | Not disclosed | The announcement supplied no transaction value or detailed financial terms. |
Because the release omitted a price, Electrorack’s reported sales cannot be used to calculate a deal valuation. Any such calculation would be speculation rather than a disclosed transaction term.
How did Electrorack fit Legrand’s strategy?
A cabinet platform for U.S. data centers
Legrand said the purchase strengthened its position in U.S. digital infrastructure by adding a specialist already focused on large data-center projects. Cabinets and enclosures give data-center operators a physical platform for servers, networking equipment, power distribution and airflow management. Adding that capability broadened Legrand’s offer beyond individual connectivity components.

Expansion through acquisitions
The deal matched Legrand’s stated approach of expanding through acquisitions in new economies and business segments. Electrorack supplied both geographic reach in the United States and a focused data-center category that could sit alongside Legrand’s existing brands.
Was Electrorack still part of Legrand’s data-center portfolio?
Legrand North America listed Electrorack in its Data, Power and Control division in a 2019 announcement, alongside Server Technology, Raritan, AFCO and Ortronics. That record supports the conclusion that Legrand continued to include the Electrorack name in its North American data-center portfolio at that time; it does not, by itself, establish that every Electrorack product remained available or that the business still operated as a standalone company. The 2019 company announcement also described Legrand’s data-center growth as relying on “best-of-breed product offerings.” Read the 2019 Legrand North America release.

Legrand’s 2023 Universal Registration Document, published in 2024, lists Electrorack first in its chronological series of 17 data-center acquisitions made from 2010 through year-end 2023. That is a retrospective company record of acquisition history, not a statement that Electrorack was Legrand’s only data-center investment or that its original product range was unchanged.
What the 2011 announcement does not establish
- It does not state the purchase price, payment structure or other detailed financial terms.
- It does not provide audited 2010 financial statements for Electrorack.
- Its 10% growth figure is a 2011 forecast and should not be treated as a current U.S. data-center growth rate.
- It does not confirm current standalone operations, current product availability or a current retail listing under the Electrorack name.
Why the acquisition matters
Viewed strictly from the disclosed facts, Legrand used the Electrorack purchase to add a U.S. cabinet-and-enclosure specialist to its digital-infrastructure portfolio. The more than 90-employee business, its expected sales above $23 million for 2010 and its relationships with large U.S. corporations gave Legrand an established platform in a data-center segment it identified as strategically attractive. Later company materials show Electrorack remained part of Legrand’s North American data-center brand roster in 2019 and appears in Legrand’s acquisition history through 2023, while leaving the transaction price and present-day operating details undisclosed.
