It did not buy the company. In February 2026, Singtel announced a separate agreement for the consortium to acquire the rest of STT GDC at an enterprise value of S$13.8 billion. The announcement is confirmed; the available sources do not establish that the later acquisition has legally closed.
What did KKR and Singtel agree to in 2024?
In June 2024, KKR and Singapore-based Singtel formed a consortium to invest S$1.75 billion, reported as approximately US$1.3 billion, in STT GDC. The transaction gave them a minority position, not control, while ST Telemedia remained STT GDC’s majority shareholder. The deal was reported by Data Center Knowledge.
The investment was structured using redeemable preference shares and warrants rather than as a simple purchase of ordinary shares. If the warrants were fully exercised, they could bring a further S$1.24 billion into the company. That additional amount was conditional, not part of the initial S$1.75 billion.
Reported ownership after the initial investment
Following the 2024 transaction, KKR was expected to hold approximately 14.1% and Singtel approximately 4.2%. Those reported percentages should be read alongside the particular securities and warrant terms: they are not enough on their own to calculate a straightforward purchase price per share or an implied company valuation. The available reporting does not establish the detailed redemption and exercise mechanics.

What STT GDC does—and who the parties are
STT GDC
ST Telemedia Global Data Centres is a Singapore-headquartered data-center operator offering colocation, connectivity and related support services. Data Center Knowledge described the company in its 2024 coverage as having more than 95 facilities across 11 geographies. That is a dated 2024 footprint figure, not a current count.
Data centers provide physical infrastructure for cloud services, enterprise IT and network connectivity. Their value depends not only on buildings and installed equipment, but also on factors such as power access, location, connectivity and the ability to expand capacity.
KKR, Singtel and ST Telemedia
- KKR is a global investment firm with infrastructure investments that include digital infrastructure. Its investment role does not by itself mean KKR operates every STT GDC facility.
- Singtel is a Singapore-based communications technology group. It participated as both an investor and a regional strategic partner; it is linked to Temasek.
- ST Telemedia was STT GDC’s majority shareholder at the time of the 2024 deal. ST Telemedia is the parent-level investor, not another name for the data-center operating company.
Why the investment mattered
The 2024 deal gave KKR and Singtel exposure to an established data-center platform without an immediate purchase of the whole business. For Singtel, a larger position in digital infrastructure complemented its communications business. For KKR, it expanded exposure to data centers and infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region.
Cloud computing, enterprise technology and AI workloads are increasing attention on data-center capacity. That is market context, not proof that AI alone drove the 2024 investment or determines STT GDC’s value. A platform with operating facilities and room to develop can be strategically attractive for reasons beyond any one demand trend.

Other reported bidders
Data Center Knowledge, citing prior Bloomberg reporting, said Apollo Global Management, Blackstone and Stonepeak Partners had also bid for an investment in STT GDC. This is reported deal context, rather than a fact established here through transaction documents.
What changed in February 2026?
On February 4, 2026, Singtel announced that a KKR-led consortium would fully acquire STT GDC, placing the company’s enterprise value at S$13.8 billion. See Singtel’s announcement.
Contemporaneous reports put the purchase of the remaining approximately 81.7% to 82% at about S$6.6 billion, or roughly US$5.1 billion to US$5.2 billion, and reported that KKR would hold 75% of the company and Singtel 25%. The deal coverage is collected at Techmeme.
Enterprise value is not the same as the amount paid for the remaining stake
S$13.8 billion is the announced enterprise value for the business; S$6.6 billion is the reported consideration for the remaining equity. They describe different things and should not be treated as interchangeable. The available information does not provide a full reconciliation of enterprise value to equity consideration, including any debt assumptions or refinancing.

Announcement is not confirmation of closing
Singtel’s announcement establishes that the consortium planned to acquire STT GDC, but the sources cited here do not confirm the legal closing. Until a closing filing or announcement confirms completion, describe the 2026 transaction as announced or agreed, rather than saying KKR and Singtel already own the entire company.

| Deal stage | Reported terms | What the figure means |
|---|---|---|
| June 2024 minority investment | S$1.75 billion (about US$1.3 billion); possible additional S$1.24 billion on full warrant exercise | Initial investment in redeemable preference shares and warrants; the additional amount was conditional. |
| February 2026 full-acquisition agreement | S$13.8 billion enterprise value; about S$6.6 billion reported for the remaining stake | Enterprise value refers to the whole business; S$6.6 billion was reported as consideration for the remaining equity. |
The figures concern different stages and different measures. The 2024 investment is not the price paid for STT GDC, and the 2026 enterprise value is not the reported cash consideration for the remaining stake.
What the progression signals for digital infrastructure
The move from a minority investment to an agreement to acquire the rest suggests a shift toward control of an operating platform, rather than exposure through a smaller stake. More broadly, the deal illustrates why investors consider data centers alongside other essential infrastructure: they support cloud services, business systems and digital networks, while their expansion depends on real-world constraints such as power, land and connectivity.
It also highlights the different roles of the two investors. KKR brings an infrastructure-investment perspective; Singtel has a regional communications business and strategic interest in digital infrastructure. Neither role alone establishes how the facilities will be managed after the announced transaction, particularly while closing remains unconfirmed.
