The shopping functions are generally described as Alexa for Shopping: price history, deal alerts, personalized recommendations and Auto-Buy work mainly within Amazon’s shopping ecosystem.
Alexa+ and Alexa for Shopping are related, but not identical
Alexa+ is Amazon’s conversational AI assistant, available through supported Alexa devices, Alexa.com and the Alexa app. Alexa for Shopping is the name Amazon uses for shopping-focused tools that can appear in Amazon’s shopping experience and alongside Alexa features.
That distinction matters. Searching for “Alexa Plus shopping” may lead to controls on Amazon.com or in the Amazon Shopping app that are labeled Alexa for Shopping rather than Alexa+. Availability can vary by country, account, device, app version, rollout and product eligibility. Amazon announced broad U.S. Alexa+ availability on February 4, 2026.
What Alexa’s shopping tools can do
Set a target price and use Auto-Buy
Amazon’s published example is: Buy these headphones when they’re $75 or less.
With Auto-Buy enabled, Alexa monitors the qualifying Amazon offer and places the order when the selected condition is met, using the account’s default payment method.

- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
This is an authorization for a later automatic purchase, not a request for Alexa to ask for approval at the moment the price falls. Before enabling it, verify the default card, shipping address, seller, condition, exact variation and any subscription settings.
Receive deal alerts
Alexa for Shopping can send alerts for product or category deals and make recommendations based on shopping history, wish lists, browsing behavior and stated preferences. An alert leaves the final decision with you, so you can inspect the seller, delivery promise, condition, return terms and alternatives.
Review Amazon price history
Amazon says product pages and Alexa for Shopping can provide a Price History view covering up to 365 days for hundreds of millions of products. It can reveal whether a claimed sale is close to a recent Amazon low, but it is not a complete record of every possible checkout price.
How Auto-Buy works in practice
- Choose the exact item. Start from an Amazon product page or a supported Alexa shopping experience. Specify the model number, size, color, capacity, generation and pack count whenever those details matter.
- State your maximum price. Give Alexa a clear threshold, such as “Buy these headphones when they’re $75 or less.”
- Enable tracking or Auto-Buy. A price alert only notifies you; Auto-Buy authorizes the eventual order.
- Check account defaults. Auto-Buy uses the default payment method. Confirm the delivery address, card status and household-account permissions.
- Wait for a qualifying offer. Alexa monitors the Amazon listing. The item may sell out, the offer may change, or the price may meet the threshold only briefly.
- Review the order afterward. Confirm that the purchased offer is the intended new item, variation, seller and fulfillment method.
Amazon’s public descriptions do not fully specify how every coupon, clipped discount, tax, shipping charge or quantity requirement interacts with Auto-Buy. Treat the displayed threshold as a condition to verify, not as proof of a particular final checkout total.
Does Alexa find the absolute lowest price?
Not on the evidence Amazon has published. Alexa’s documented tools can wait for a target price on Amazon, show Amazon price history and alert you to Amazon deals. They do not establish continuous comparison of the final delivered price against every competing retailer.

Amazon says its store offers low prices and reported a Profitero analysis claiming Amazon was the lowest-priced U.S. retailer every year since 2017, with online prices averaging 14% below major U.S. retailers in 2025 across more than 10,000 identical products. That is an Amazon-reported, average comparison—not a guarantee for your specific item, seller or checkout total. See Amazon’s explanation of its savings claims.
What “lowest” can mean
Lowest Amazon price
The item reaches your chosen threshold on Amazon. This is the clearest meaning supported by Auto-Buy.
Lowest recent Amazon price
The current offer compares favorably with the product’s own recent Amazon history. A 365-day view may miss older seasonal lows or a brief promotion.
Lowest listed price
The product page displays a lower item price, but shipping, required coupons, taxes, Prime eligibility or quantity rules may change the amount you actually pay.
Lowest delivered market price
The final checkout total is lower than comparable totals at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Costco, the manufacturer or another marketplace. Establishing this requires an independent comparison.

Price-history limitations to keep in mind
- One year of data does not include every older holiday or clearance low.
- Size, color, capacity, bundle, seller and fulfillment changes can make apparently similar prices incomparable.
- Charts may not capture every clipped coupon, Lightning Deal, Subscribe & Save reduction or Prime-only price.
- A historical low may have lasted only minutes or applied to limited inventory.
- The offer shown today may be from a different seller or have different return and delivery terms.
Use the history as context, not as a certification that the current deal is the product’s true lowest possible price.
When Auto-Buy is sensible
Auto-Buy is best for a narrowly defined, familiar item that you would definitely purchase at the stated maximum price.
- Standardized household consumables and repeat purchases.
- A specific model number or SKU with stable specifications.
- New products whose packaging and contents are well understood.
- Non-urgent purchases where delayed delivery or a missed offer is acceptable.
- Items that are straightforward and inexpensive to return.
When to use an alert instead—or avoid automation
Choose a deal alert when you want to inspect the offer before committing. Avoid Auto-Buy for:
- Expensive electronics that may be replaced by a newer generation.
- Clothing, shoes and other products where fit is uncertain.
- Items where color, size, capacity, bundle contents or connectivity is critical.
- Listings dominated by changing third-party sellers.
- Safety-sensitive goods, supplements, medical devices and baby equipment.
- Used, renewed, open-box or authenticity-sensitive products.
- Purchases where you need to compare warranty, delivery date or return policy first.
Common Auto-Buy failure modes
The qualifying offer changes
A product page can contain several sellers, variants and fulfillment methods. A price hit does not by itself prove that the offer matches the one you intended.
A cheaper version is selected
Common mix-ups include 64GB versus 128GB, one-pack versus two-pack, Standard versus Pro, new versus renewed, Wi-Fi versus cellular, or an older generation. Use the exact model number and inspect the variation.

The threshold depends on a coupon
A displayed price may require clipping a coupon, buying a quantity or meeting another condition. Amazon has not fully described how every such discount is handled by Auto-Buy, so check the resulting order carefully.
Recommended Free Tools
The item sells out
An alert or target price does not reserve inventory. The qualifying offer may disappear before an order can be completed.
The price falls further later
Auto-Buy purchases at the first qualifying price; it does not predict the lowest future price. Set a threshold you genuinely accept rather than a number chosen only because it looks like a discount.
Your account defaults cause a surprise
An expired card, fraud block, spending limit, wrong address or shared household account can prevent or misdirect an order. Check these settings before activation.

- Check whether the seller is Amazon or a third-party marketplace seller, and who fulfills the order.
- Review shipping cost, delivery date, taxes and any Prime requirement.
- Determine whether the target price requires a coupon, subscription or minimum quantity.
- Compare the final delivered total at other retailers.
- Review the return policy, warranty and authenticity protections.
- Compare the current price with Amazon’s available history.
- Confirm that the default payment method and shipping address are correct.
Alexa+ cost and the Prime question
Amazon announced that Alexa+ costs $19.99 per month for U.S. non-Prime customers and is included at no additional charge for U.S. Prime members. Amazon also describes a limited free Alexa+ chat experience for non-Prime customers through Alexa.com and the Alexa app. Details and availability can change; see the February 4, 2026 announcement.

- CUSTOMIZABLE SMART CLOCK - See time, weather, and song titles at a glance, control smart home devices, and more. Personalize your display with your favorite clock face and fun colors.

- EASE INTO THE DAY - Set up an Alexa routine that gently wakes you with music and gradual light. Glance at the time, check reminders, or ask Alexa for weather updates.
- KEEP YOUR HOME COMFORTABLE - Control compatible smart home devices. Just ask Alexa to turn on lights or touch the screen to dim. Create routines that use motion detection to turn down the thermostat as you head out or open the blinds when you walk into a room.
“Included with Prime” means Alexa+ is bundled into an existing paid Prime membership; Prime itself is not free. Do not justify Prime solely on Auto-Buy. Its value depends on how much you use delivery, Prime deals and the rest of the membership.
Who should use Amazon’s tools?
Alexa’s approach suits shoppers already committed to Amazon who have a firm maximum price and want less manual monitoring. It is less suitable for someone whose actual goal is the lowest total market price, because that requires checking competing retailers, shipping, taxes, coupons, loyalty discounts and seller quality.
For cross-retailer research, services such as Google Shopping, Capital One Shopping and PayPal Honey can provide additional comparison or coupon options. Their coverage, permissions, rewards and current terms should be reviewed independently.
Bottom line
Alexa+ and Alexa for Shopping are best understood as Amazon target-price automation. They can show recent Amazon pricing, alert you to deals and place an order automatically when an Amazon item reaches your chosen threshold. They are not documented as an infallible engine that proves the lowest delivered price across the entire market. Use Auto-Buy for exact, familiar, low-risk purchases; use alerts and manual comparison when seller, condition, variation, timing or total cost matters.
