Short answer: Yes—the $399 figure was a real, best-case calculation in a December 3, 2024 Cyber Monday promotion. It applied to the 256GB Galaxy Z Fold 6 after a $300 discount and the maximum $1,200 Samsung trade-in credit, before tax. It was not the phone’s normal cash price, and current Samsung pages do not verify that promotion as available in October 2026.
The original deal is documented by Android Headlines. Samsung’s current Fold6 upgrade page has shown pricing from $1,199.99 before trade-in, while its current offer pages emphasize newer Galaxy Z models. Check the live terms before sending in any phone.

How the $399 price was calculated
The promotion combined a stated $300 discount with up to $1,200 in trade-in credit. The arithmetic produced two different effective prices depending on storage:
| Galaxy Z Fold 6 version | Price after $300 discount | Maximum trade-in credit | Lowest advertised price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 256GB | $1,599 | $1,200 | $399 |
| 512GB | $1,719 | $1,200 | $519 |
Both figures were before sales tax. Thus, “as low as $399” described the 256GB model only, and only when Samsung awarded the full trade-in amount. It was an effective net price, not an unconditional $399 checkout price.

Which phones could reach the maximum credit?
The December 2024 article gave these examples of maximum values. They are historical figures from that promotion, not a current Samsung quote:
| Trade-in example | Maximum credit stated in the deal article |
|---|---|
| Galaxy S24 Ultra | Up to $1,200 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 5 | Up to $1,200 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 4 | Up to $1,100 |
| iPhone 15 Pro Max | Up to $1,000 |
The article did not publish a complete eligibility list, storage-by-storage schedule, condition grading, or carrier restrictions. You should therefore not assume that another model—or a damaged version of one of these phones—would qualify for the same amount.
What “as low as” leaves out
Condition and inspection
Samsung’s trade-in terms say the device generally must power on and charge, have an acceptable display, and be free of disqualifying cracks, liquid damage, blacklist status, or software locks. It must be factory-reset with personal information removed. Exact requirements and values can change, so read the terms attached to the order rather than relying on the 2024 headline.
Shipping and possible chargebacks
Samsung can reduce or reverse the applied credit if the old phone is not shipped by the stated deadline or fails inspection. That means the apparent $399 price can become substantially higher after purchase. Keep shipment tracking and photographs of the device until the inspection is complete.

Tax, financing and compatibility
Sales tax is calculated separately. Financing, if offered, can affect the payment schedule even when the promotional net price is unchanged. The Android Headlines post presents the offer as a Samsung promotion; it does not establish a Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile or other carrier installment deal. Confirm whether the specific unit is unlocked or compatible with your carrier before ordering.
Your old phone’s alternative value
A large trade-in credit is not automatically the best financial choice. Compare Samsung’s quoted credit with realistic private-sale or resale proceeds after fees, shipping, fraud risk and the time required to sell. Also budget for a case, insurance and a replacement phone or authentication method while your trade-in is in transit.

What the U.S. Galaxy Z Fold 6 offered
The December 2024 deal coverage described the U.S. model with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor, 12GB of RAM, 256GB or 512GB of storage, a 4,400mAh battery, a 6.3-inch cover display and an approximately 7.6- to 7.8-inch unfolded display. It listed three rear cameras: 50MP wide, 10MP telephoto and 12MP ultrawide. Display measurements in the original article vary from current regional specification listings, so verify the exact configuration on Samsung’s product page before publishing or purchasing.
The design was described as somewhat wider and more squared-off than earlier Folds, with a wider cover screen and corresponding inner panel. Those are qualitative observations from the deal coverage, not a substitute for hands-on testing.

It can make sense when
- You specifically want a phone-sized device that opens into a much larger screen for reading, multitasking, spreadsheets or media.
- Your current phone genuinely qualifies for a high trade-in credit that exceeds what you could reasonably net by selling it.
- You accept higher foldable repair exposure, including hinge, crease, inner-screen and protective-layer issues.
- The unit is new or in the stated condition, works on your carrier, and has a warranty or protection plan you understand.
Skip it when
- You need the best Samsung camera system; an Ultra-series phone may be a better fit.
- Battery endurance and a conventional, lighter handset matter more than the large inner display.
- You cannot tolerate the potential cost or inconvenience of foldable repairs.
- You would be paying around $1,200 before trade-in for an older-generation foldable when a current model offers newer hardware and more remaining support life.
Is the promotion still actionable?
There is no verified evidence that the December 3, 2024 Cyber Monday offer remains active. A page or search result can remain visible after a promotion ends, and inventory, storage options and trade-in values can change. Samsung’s current Fold6 upgrade page has displayed a starting price of $1,199.99 before trade-in, while the company’s U.S. offers page and cell-phone offers page focus on newer Galaxy Z generations.
If you find a current listing, verify all of the following on the checkout screen:
- Select the exact storage tier and confirm whether it is new, refurbished or carrier-locked.
- Enter your precise trade-in model, storage and condition; record the quoted credit.
- Check the final total with sales tax, shipping and any financing terms.
- Read the return deadline and what happens to your old phone if you return the Fold6.
- Back up data, transfer authentication credentials and remove locks only after you have a replacement plan.
Special Edition and regional limits
The original article said the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition was limited to China and South Korea at that time. That was a December 2024 availability statement, not a permanent global-status claim, and it was not the U.S. Fold6 covered by the $399 calculation.
Bottom line on the deal
The $399 headline was legitimate only as a narrow, before-tax effective price for the 256GB model during a dated Cyber Monday promotion. It required a qualifying phone worth the full $1,200 credit and successful inspection. Unless Samsung or an authorized seller currently shows matching terms, treat it as an archived deal—not a live shopping alert. At today’s roughly $1,200-before-trade-in pricing signal, the Fold6 is worth considering only if you value the foldable format and the complete cost still beats a current-generation alternative.
