Short answer: The headline describes a real Amazon promotion reported on February 18, 2025—not a currently verified August 2026 sale. At the time, selected M2 iPad Air and M4 iPad Pro Wi‑Fi models were discounted by $100 to $200. The standout prices were the 13-inch, 512GB M2 iPad Air at $899 and the 13-inch, 256GB M4 iPad Pro at $1,099, each $200 below the reported regular price. Current inventory, coupons and pricing must be checked on the retailer’s page.
The original deal report is available from MacRumors. Apple now lists an M4 iPad Air generation introduced in 2026, so the M2 Air should be treated as an older or clearance model rather than the current Air generation. See Apple’s current specifications.

Which model was the best value?
Best budget choice: 11-inch M2 iPad Air, 128GB
At the reported $499 price, the 11-inch Air was the clearest mainstream value for browsing, streaming, schoolwork, note-taking and Apple Pencil use. It uses Apple’s M2 chip and supports Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard for iPad Air. Its Liquid Retina LED display, Touch ID and standard USB‑C are less advanced than the Pro’s hardware, but those omissions matter little for basic tablet use. Apple’s comparison details are at Apple’s comparison tool.
Best large-screen Air: 13-inch M2 iPad Air
The 13-inch models at $699 for 128GB or $799 for 256GB offered a substantially larger workspace without 13-inch Pro pricing. The 512GB version at $899 delivered the maximum Air discount, but its value depends on actually needing that storage. Storage cannot be added later, so choose capacity for your files rather than for the size of the advertised discount.

Best premium deal: 13-inch M4 iPad Pro, 256GB
The reported $1,099 price was the lowest listed 13-inch M4 Pro configuration and included the full-size Pro display and hardware package. It suits buyers who specifically benefit from ProMotion, Face ID, four-speaker audio, Thunderbolt/USB 4, advanced microphones or professional creative workflows.
Lowest entry to the M4 Pro: 11-inch, 256GB
The 11-inch M4 Pro reached $849 after a $150 discount. It was the least expensive M4 Pro in the report, but still cost substantially more than the 11-inch Air. Its premium makes sense only if the Pro display, connectivity, audio or Face ID are important to you.

M2 iPad Air versus M4 iPad Pro
| Feature | M2 iPad Air | M4 iPad Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Sizes | 11-inch and 13-inch | 11-inch and 13-inch |
| Chip | M2 | M4 |
| Display | Liquid Retina LED | Higher-end display with ProMotion |
| Biometrics | Touch ID in the top button | Face ID |
| Audio and microphones | Stereo speakers | Four speakers and four studio-quality microphones |
| Port | USB‑C | Thunderbolt/USB 4 |
| Storage range | 128GB to 1TB | 256GB to 2TB |
| Accessories | Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard for iPad Air support | Apple Pencil Pro and Magic Keyboard support |
These distinctions come from Apple’s comparison of the M4 Pro and M2 Air. The Pro is the rational upgrade for high-refresh-rate display use, demanding video or design work, extensive local storage, fast external-drive workflows, or frequent video and audio recording. The Air is the better financial choice when those features will not affect your work.
Storage: pay for capacity you will use
- 128GB: Generally sufficient for streaming, cloud storage, notes and light app use.
- 256GB: A safer baseline for downloaded media, games, photos and longer ownership.
- 512GB or more: Appropriate for video projects, large photo libraries, extensive offline media and professional applications.
A larger nominal discount does not make unused storage a bargain. iPad storage cannot be upgraded after purchase.

Amazon, Best Buy and checkout conditions
The original report said Best Buy matched many M2 Air and M4 Pro prices. The 11-inch M4 Pro prices required an Amazon coupon or Best Buy membership; the report did not state those requirements for the 13-inch models. Best Buy membership fees can outweigh a one-time discount if you are buying only one product.
How to verify an Amazon coupon
- Select the exact screen size, storage, color and Wi‑Fi configuration.
- Confirm that the listing is new and identify the seller.
- Look for the coupon checkbox on the product page.
- Apply the coupon before checkout.
- Verify the final price in the cart, not just the search result.
Coupons can vary by account, color, configuration and inventory. Their appearance in the 2025 report does not mean one will be available now.

Check delivery separately from price
MacRumors reported that several M2 Air Amazon delivery estimates had slipped into March during the promotion, while Best Buy sometimes showed earlier estimates. That historical delay cannot be assumed to describe current availability; check the actual delivery date before paying.
Avoid the wrong listing
- Confirm the condition is New, not renewed or used.
- Check the generation and chip: M2 Air or M4 Pro, as intended.
- Verify storage, screen size and Wi‑Fi versus cellular.
- Review the seller, return policy and warranty eligibility.
- Ensure the listing includes the expected box and accessories.
Cellular iPads cost more and can involve carrier activation, eSIM support and recurring service charges, so do not compare their prices with the Wi‑Fi tables above.
Should you buy an M2 iPad Air in 2026?
Apple now identifies an M4 iPad Air in its current specifications, with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB options. An M2 Air can still be sensible when a verified clearance price is substantially below newer models and its features meet your needs. Do not assume it is the best Air simply because the old promotion advertised $100 or $200 off; compare the exact current price, warranty and storage with the current-generation Air before ordering.
For current specifications and supported accessories, use Apple’s iPad Air specifications and iPad comparison tool. The original price claims, including “all-time low” descriptions, were statements tied to the February 18, 2025 report and may have been surpassed by later promotions.

This was a strong February 2025 promotion, not a verified August 2026 deal. The 11-inch M2 Air at $499 was the practical value pick; the 13-inch M2 Air at $699–$899 served shoppers wanting a large screen and, in the 512GB version, the biggest Air discount; and the 13-inch M4 Pro at $1,099 was the premium choice for buyers who would use its display, ports, audio and storage. In 2026, verify live pricing and stock first, then choose based on capacity and features rather than the headline savings alone.
