Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallCurrent status (checked 1 October 2026, UTC): Shopify’s official status pages show checkout operating normally, with no active cart-loop incident confirmed. Shopify did resolve a storefront and checkout infrastructure incident on 17 July 2026 (00:30–03:33 UTC), but that past event does not establish a current outage. Check Shopify’s status page before treating a cart-to-checkout loop as platform-wide.
If customers can add products but clicking Checkout returns them to the cart or spins indefinitely, isolate the failure across browsers, devices, networks, products and stores before changing live code.
What “stuck in a cart loop” means
Related symptoms can have different causes:
- Checkout sends the customer back to the cart.
- The checkout button spins indefinitely.
- Checkout opens briefly, then redirects to the cart.
- An item disappears or becomes unavailable.
- Checkout loads but stops at shipping or payment.
- Browser-console errors or repeated network requests appear.
A payment rejection, missing shipping rate and front-end redirect are not automatically evidence of a Shopify outage.
How to check whether Shopify is down
- Open Shopify’s official status page (the mirror is shopifystatus.com).
- Inspect the separate Checkout, Storefront, Admin, API & Mobile and Third-party services indicators.
- Record the incident title, affected regions or services, status (Investigating, Identified, Monitoring or Resolved) and the time you checked.
“All systems operational” does not rule out a problem affecting a small percentage of stores, one payment gateway, a region, a browser or a recently resolved incident whose local effects are cached. Shopify’s status service says some low-volume issues may not appear.

Fast isolation test
Run these tests without editing the store first:
- Open the storefront in a private or incognito window.
- Try a second browser, then a phone and a desktop.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Use one simple product with known inventory, no discount and a one-item cart.
- Ask whether unrelated customers or other Shopify stores see the same behavior.
| Finding | Likely category | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Several unrelated Shopify stores fail on multiple networks | Possible Shopify incident | Check the status page, record timestamps and wait for an official update. |
| One store fails everywhere | Theme, app, domain, shipping, inventory or payment configuration | Use a clean theme and isolate recent changes. |
| Only one browser or device fails | Cookies, cache, extensions, VPN, firewall or JavaScript | Clear site data and disable extensions or VPN temporarily. |
| Only one product or combination fails | Variant, inventory, market, shipping, discount or bundle rule | Test another SKU and inspect the affected rules. |
| Checkout opens but payment fails | Gateway or payment setup | Test another method and check the provider. |
Customer-side fixes
For a browser- or device-specific failure, clear the affected storefront’s cookies and cached data, close and reopen the browser, and retry privately. Permit cookies and JavaScript. Disable ad blockers, privacy or script-blocking tools and coupon extensions, and temporarily test without a VPN or restrictive firewall. Shopify documents these steps in its browser and cache troubleshooting guidance. Do not repeatedly submit a payment while the page is spinning.
Merchant diagnosis
Reproduce with a controlled cart
Use one in-stock variant, no discount, no bundle and a standard customer destination. Note whether the failure occurs before checkout, at shipping or only after a payment method is selected.
Compare themes and recent app changes
Preview the published theme and a clean, unpublished Shopify theme. If the clean theme works, review recent theme deployments and custom JavaScript. Disable recently installed or updated apps one at a time, prioritizing cart drawers, discounts, bundles, product options, shipping rates, payment methods, customer accounts, age verification, geolocation, fraud prevention and upsells. Check whether code intercepts the checkout button or submits the cart through an AJAX endpoint.

Check inventory, markets and shipping
- Verify inventory for the exact variant and fulfillment location.
- Confirm the product is included in the customer’s market or catalog.
- Review shipping profiles, zones and rates for the destination.
- Test without discount codes, automatic discounts, quantity limits or minimum-order rules.
- Inspect bundle, cart-transform and cart-validation logic for an invalid cart.
If no shipping rate appears, checkout cannot proceed. Shopify’s payment troubleshooting documentation also covers shipping-rate and abandoned-checkout checks.
Check payment configuration
Confirm that a primary payment provider is active. Test whether the problem affects Shopify Payments, one third-party gateway or every method. Review abandoned checkouts and order timelines in Shopify Admin, and check the selected provider’s own status page. “This store is currently unable to accept payments” can indicate that no active primary provider is configured.

When to escalate
| Contact | Use this route when | Include |
|---|---|---|
| Shopify Support | The issue reproduces across browsers, devices and networks; affects a clean theme; or matches a status-page incident. | Timestamps, URLs, reproduction steps, device matrix and captured errors. |
| App developer | The loop began after an app change and disappears when that app is disabled. | App version, change time, cart example and console/network evidence. |
| Payment provider | Checkout loads normally but only that gateway rejects payment. | Gateway error, transaction time and confirmation that Shopify payment settings are active. |
Important edge cases
Only mobile checkout fails
Compare Mobile Safari and Chrome, Wi-Fi and cellular data, and mobile-specific theme code. Check sticky-cart buttons, accelerated wallets, geolocation and market rules.
A discount triggers the loop
Retry the same cart without the code. Check eligibility, combinations, minimum spend, exclusions and app-generated discount logic.
Bundles or custom products are involved
Test the base product without bundles, product-options apps, custom line-item properties, subscriptions, quantity breaks or cart-transform functions.
The customer sees “sold out”
Check variant-level inventory, the assigned fulfillment location, destination eligibility, selling plans and any app-created variants. Product-level stock alone is not sufficient.

Checkout code was changed recently
Review Shopify’s current checkout extensibility documentation. Legacy mechanisms and replacement extensions can depend on plan, page type and migration state; verify those details before changing production checkout code.
Community posts can reveal patterns but are anecdotal. For example, a Reddit mobile-checkout report does not confirm a Shopify-wide incident. Likewise, Shopify’s January 2023 loading-loop discussion records a resolved historical event, not the current status.

What not to do
- Do not publish an outage claim based only on social posts.
- Do not remove every app at once; isolate one variable.
- Do not alter live checkout code without a rollback plan.
- Do not assume operational status means every store is healthy.
- Do not repeatedly submit payments during a loop.
Update history

- 17 July 2026 (00:30–03:33 UTC): Shopify recorded a storefront and checkout infrastructure incident and reported the fix implemented at 03:33 UTC, followed by monitoring without further impact.
