The company says it is building a production workflow for studios, brands, rights holders and professional creators—not simply a one-click text-to-video generator. The announcement did not disclose a valuation, formal round label, pricing or broad public availability.
What happened in Cheehoo’s funding round?
Cheehoo said it raised $10 million in financing announced April 28, 2025. TechCrunch later clarified that Greycroft and Point72 Ventures co-led the round. Other reported participants were Basis Set, Headline Asia, Powerhouse Capital, Playground Productions and Rideback. The coverage did not identify the financing as seed, Series A or another formal round, and it does not establish whether $10 million is Cheehoo’s cumulative funding total or only the newly announced financing.
TechCrunch’s report also did not disclose valuation, revenue, employee count or a detailed spending budget.
What Cheehoo is building
Cheehoo describes its product as an AI-enabled layer for animation production and interactive storytelling. Reported functions include:

That feature mix points to two connected products. The first is workflow infrastructure—handling files, formats, annotations and integrations. The second is generative assistance for characters, assets, motion and scenes. The reported on/off controls are intended to leave artists in charge of when automation is used.
Why this is different from a simple video generator
A text-to-video service can produce an appealing clip without solving the production problems that arise when a team must revise a scene, preserve a character’s appearance, exchange files and obtain approvals. Cheehoo’s Maya and Unreal integrations suggest an attempt to fit into an existing pipeline rather than replace every tool in it. That is an interpretation of the reported features, not a claim that the company has demonstrated production-scale performance.
Who founded Cheehoo?
The startup emerged from Rideback, the entertainment company associated with the Lego Movie franchise. TechCrunch identified these members of its founding team:

This combines entertainment and animation-production experience with AI research backgrounds. Greycroft principal Brentt Baltimore presented that Hollywood, media and technology mix as an advantage for tackling animation-pipeline problems. It remains an investor thesis, not evidence by itself of paying customers or successful deployments.

What problem does Cheehoo say it is solving?
Cheehoo and its investors argue that animation is expensive, slow and technically fragmented. A single scene can require storyboarding, asset creation, lighting, rendering, composition, conversion and format management. A creative change may therefore trigger work across several stages.
The company’s stated goal is to let teams prototype and revise more quickly without requiring a large traditional studio setup. The available reporting does not provide an independent time-saving benchmark, cost study or quality comparison, so those benefits should be treated as Cheehoo’s proposition rather than measured results.

Who is the intended customer?
At the time of the financing announcement, Cheehoo said it was working mainly with enterprises and prosumers and planned to develop more consumer-focused products. Its stated audience includes artists, animators, studios, brands, intellectual-property owners and other professional teams. Cheehoo’s public Linktree describes its mission as “empowering storytellers with artist-driven tech” (Cheehoo Linktree).
Cheehoo also said it was working with several IP holders, studios and creators. No specific launch partner was named in the funding report, so that statement does not establish paid contracts, exclusivity or publicly credited productions.

How will the $10 million be used?
The announced uses were broad:

No hiring plan, model-training budget, infrastructure allocation, revenue target or release timetable was disclosed.

The most useful comparison is by production role rather than by marketing label:

- Can characters and assets stay consistent across scenes and revisions?
- Are exports production-ready and interchangeable with Maya, Unreal and other tools?
- Does the system support asset libraries, collaboration, version rollback and approvals?
- How are proprietary files secured, retained and used?
- What rights, licensing and indemnification apply to generated material and training data?
- What happens to cost and performance when external models are used?
Is Cheehoo available to buy now?
The financing announcement is dated 2025. As of August 18, 2026, the available reporting does not establish a public price, general signup, named launch customer, valuation, subsequent funding round or full commercial release. Playground Productions’ listing says Cheehoo launched in beta in August 2024 (Playground Productions), but that does not confirm its current access terms.

Readers evaluating the company should verify access, pricing, export formats, collaboration features, data retention, IP protections and support for Maya or Unreal projects directly through Cheehoo’s website. A $10 million round demonstrates investor backing; it does not, on its own, prove product-market fit, production quality or customer retention.
The bottom line for investors and animation teams
Cheehoo’s significance is its attempt to combine AI generation with the less visible infrastructure of animation production. The April 2025 round gives the company capital to build that workflow and expand integrations, while the Rideback, DreamWorks and Apple-AI backgrounds give it a credible founding narrative. The unresolved questions—commercial access, customer names, pricing, rights policy and performance at production scale—are more important than the headline amount for anyone deciding whether the platform belongs in a real pipeline.
