Samsung is targeting about 800 million mobile products with AI features powered largely by Google Gemini during 2026, up from roughly 400 million in 2025, according to a January 5, 2026 Reuters interview with Samsung co-CEO T. M. Roh. That is a rollout goal for products—primarily phones and tablets—not a verified count of 800 million full Gemini installations, paid subscribers, or identical AI experiences.
The distinction matters. Galaxy AI is Samsung’s umbrella for AI features, while Gemini is Google’s assistant and model family. A single Galaxy device can combine Samsung models, Google services, on-device processing, cloud AI and ordinary software.
The 800 million figure is a target, not an achievement
Reuters reported that Roh said Samsung planned to increase the number of mobile products with Gemini-backed AI features from approximately 400 million in 2025 to approximately 800 million during 2026. The report describes mobile products including smartphones and tablets; Samsung has not publicly defined a device-by-device accounting method that would let readers verify the total.
Use “Samsung is targeting” or “Samsung plans to reach,” rather than saying 800 million devices already contain Gemini. The figure also does not mean every product runs a complete Gemini model locally, or that every AI function on each product comes from Google.

Galaxy AI and Gemini are different layers
Galaxy AI is Samsung’s product label
Galaxy AI covers Samsung-branded capabilities across supported Galaxy phones, tablets and other products. Samsung says its features can include Samsung-developed technology as well as enhanced or third-party AI, which may have separate terms or fees.
Gemini is Google’s assistant and model family
Gemini can provide the conversational interface, model intelligence, app connections or selected on-device functions. It is one major component of the Galaxy experience, not a synonym for every feature carrying the Galaxy AI name.
Depending on the task, a Galaxy device may use Samsung AI, Gemini, Google Search, a Samsung on-device model, a third-party service or no AI at all. Samsung’s compatibility guidance explains the broader Galaxy AI scope.
What “powered by Gemini” can mean
The phrase is a partnership description, not a precise hardware specification. Gemini may be used to:

- Interpret screen, camera or other multimodal context.
- Find information in services such as Maps, YouTube or Spotify.
- Handle selected Android system capabilities.
- Run particular models on the device, such as the scam-detection model Google describes for Galaxy S26.
- Process more demanding requests in Google’s cloud while Samsung presents the result in a Galaxy app.
Google’s announcements describe Galaxy S26 scam detection as using an on-device Gemini model. That implementation’s audio is described as processed ephemerally rather than recorded, stored or sent to Google or third parties. That privacy statement applies to the cited feature, not automatically to every Gemini workflow.

What users can do with Gemini on Galaxy
Cross-app actions
On supported devices and software, users can ask Gemini to find information, create or update calendar entries, locate restaurants, send information to a contact, or work with services such as Maps, Calendar, YouTube, Spotify and WhatsApp. App permissions, account authorization and confirmation requirements apply.
Screen, camera and video context
Gemini can answer questions about visible content or camera input. Samsung documents workflows that extract information from YouTube and save it to Samsung Notes. The Side button can invoke Gemini where the device is configured for it.
Gemini Intelligence and Notebook
Google’s May 2026 announcement describes Gemini Intelligence as a more proactive Android layer for multi-step tasks, summaries and form filling. Google later said newer Samsung foldables would receive Gemini task automation across more than 40 supported apps and Gemini Notebook tools for synthesizing sources into materials such as slide decks, videos, flash cards, quizzes or podcasts.
Availability depends on the supported app, country, language, device, account and rollout stage. Samsung’s Gemini action instructions and requirements guidance list current limitations.
Which products are included?
The original 800 million statement is best understood as a mobile-device rollout target, especially for smartphones and tablets. Later announcements expand the collaboration to more of the Galaxy ecosystem, but they do not prove that every form factor is counted in the original number.

| Device family | What is established | Important limits |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 | Broadest current support for new Android and Gemini capabilities, including on-device scam detection. | Country, language, app and staged-rollout restrictions apply. |
| Galaxy S25 and S24 | Many Galaxy AI functions are supported; some newer capabilities may arrive later or be limited. | Hardware, software version and region affect eligibility. |
| Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip | Strong Galaxy AI support; 2026 foldables add Gemini Intelligence and related productivity features. | Model and market variation; Google AI Pro trial applies only to selected devices. |
| Galaxy Tab | Selected tablets support Galaxy AI and related productivity workflows. | Tablet-specific feature and software support varies. |
| Galaxy A | Selected phones and tablets receive a narrower set of AI features. | Do not assume flagship Gemini capabilities. |
| Watches and eyewear | Google says Gemini integrations are expanding to Galaxy Watch and planned Samsung-developed intelligent eyewear. | Rollouts and counting treatment are not fully defined. |
Samsung’s US compatibility page lists supported S, Z, A and Tab models and warns that features vary by model, software version and region. Galaxy AI compatibility does not guarantee compatibility with every new Gemini Intelligence feature.
On-device versus cloud processing
Galaxy AI uses a mixture of local and cloud processing. Samsung gives translation, ambient wallpapers and selected messaging functions as examples of on-device work, while auto-formatting, summarization, auto-correction and some image editing may use the cloud.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →To restrict Galaxy AI processing where supported:
- Open Settings.
- Tap Galaxy AI.
- Enable Process data only on device.
This setting can reduce functionality because some features require cloud processing. It also should not be treated as a universal switch for every Google service or Gemini interaction. See Samsung’s on-device and cloud-processing guidance.
What changed during 2026
Galaxy S26 rollout
Google highlighted Gemini-assisted task completion, Android and Samsung app integration, Gemini 3-series support for selected capabilities and on-device scam detection for the Galaxy S26 series, with additional functions planned over time.
Gemini Intelligence expansion
Google said Gemini Intelligence would begin with recent Samsung Galaxy and Pixel phones before expanding to watches, cars, glasses and laptops. Its July announcement added the latest Samsung foldables, more than 40 supported apps, Gemini Notebook, Galaxy Watch integrations and planned Samsung-developed eyewear for fall 2026.

Requirements and feature fragmentation
- Compatible Galaxy hardware, Android and One UI versions.
- Current Samsung and Google software updates.
- A Samsung account for some Galaxy AI tools and a Google account for Gemini integrations.
- Supported language, country and app versions.
- Internet access for cloud-dependent functions.
- Permissions for contacts, calendars, messages or other connected apps.
- Potential age, experimental-feature or subscription restrictions.
Samsung’s general guidance references One UI 6.1 or later for relevant supported features, while newer Gemini actions and Gemini Live require newer Android and One UI combinations on supported phones. A device can therefore have Galaxy AI without receiving the newest Gemini features.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the partnership matters
For Google
Samsung supplies one of Android’s largest hardware distribution channels. Default buttons, assistants, Samsung apps and system workflows can give Gemini more frequent consumer use, strengthen Google’s position against Apple and other AI providers, and increase engagement with Google services, subject to user settings and policies.
For Samsung
Samsung can market AI across phones, tablets, foldables and wearables without building every foundational model itself. It retains the Galaxy interface, hardware, Knox security layer and product branding, but becomes more dependent on Google for core models, data policies, pricing and future feature availability.
For consumers
- Potential benefits: stronger assistants, cross-app automation, multimodal help, translation, accessibility and productivity tools.
- Potential costs: fragmented support, cloud-privacy concerns, multiple accounts, changing features, subscription prompts, incorrect outputs and greater ecosystem lock-in.
What to check before buying or subscribing
- Identify the exact feature you need—chat, translation, editing, scam detection or cross-app actions.
- Check your precise model, country, language and One UI/Android version on Samsung’s compatibility page.
- Confirm whether the feature is on-device, cloud-based or mixed, and whether device-only processing disables it.
- Verify supported apps and required permissions before expecting an automated action.
- Read trial and renewal terms. Selected new foldables include a six-month Google AI Pro trial that auto-renews unless canceled; the reviewed announcements do not establish a current standard US price.
- Keep ordinary search and manual app workflows available as fallbacks, and review messages, bookings, purchases, navigation destinations and extracted facts before accepting them.
Common problems and fixes
Galaxy AI is present but a Gemini feature is missing
Check model support, software updates, rollout status, country, language, account sign-in and whether the feature is limited to flagship hardware or a newer app version.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Gemini cannot complete an action
The app may be unsupported, permissions may be missing, the app may be outdated, the task may require a subscription or confirmation, or the action may not be offered in your market.
Device-only processing breaks a workflow
That is expected for cloud-dependent functions. Decide whether the privacy benefit outweighs losing that feature, rather than assuming the control is malfunctioning.
The result is wrong
AI-generated answers and actions require supervision. Verify calendar entries, messages, purchases, bookings, destinations and any medical, legal, financial or safety-related information independently.
Bottom line
Samsung is turning Gemini from an optional app into a deeper Galaxy ecosystem layer and is targeting roughly 800 million AI-enabled mobile products in 2026. Read that number as a strategic deployment goal—not proof that 800 million identical Gemini devices already exist. The practical experience will depend on the exact Galaxy model, processor, software, region, language, app, account, privacy setting and service plan.
