My verdict: I would avoid GoDaddy’s entry-level shared hosting for most new WordPress and small-business websites. The problem is not that every GoDaddy service is unreliable. It is the combination of a long prepaid commitment, materially higher renewal pricing, tier-dependent SSL and security, modest entry-plan resources, and a confusing gap between convenience and technical capability. GoDaddy can still make sense for a simple site, domain-and-hosting consolidation, or a buyer who values phone support above maximum value.
This review focuses primarily on GoDaddy Web Hosting (shared hosting), then separates its managed WordPress product, Website Builder, and higher-end VPS or dedicated services. Those products should not receive the same verdict.
The short version
| What GoDaddy does well | Why I would hesitate |
|---|---|
| Recognizable provider with phone, chat and SMS support | The headline shared-hosting price requires the first three-year term |
| Simple setup and domain/hosting consolidation | Renewal prices are substantially higher than the promotional figures |
| Daily backups are advertised on shared hosting | Economy has less attractive SSL treatment than higher tiers |
| Managed WordPress adds automated updates and security features | Independent testing found weak results on the lowest shared tier |
| Higher managed WordPress tiers include more developer tooling | Staging, CDN, WooCommerce and performance tools are tier-gated |
For a brochure site with modest traffic, GoDaddy may be adequate. For a revenue-generating WordPress site, a database-heavy application, or anyone optimizing long-term cost, I would compare alternatives before committing to three years.
GoDaddy sells several different products
Standard Web Hosting
This is the cPanel-based shared product with Economy, Deluxe and Ultimate tiers. It suits conventional PHP sites, basic WordPress installations and users who want cPanel. The entry plan is where the strongest value objections arise.

Managed Hosting for WordPress
GoDaddy installs WordPress, manages core updates and provides a separate dashboard. Its prices, resource limits and included tools differ from shared hosting. A good result on this product does not prove that Economy shared hosting is fast.
Website Builder
Website Builder is a hosted, no-code platform rather than ordinary web hosting. It can be simpler for someone who does not want WordPress, but its templates, extensions and migration options create more platform lock-in.
VPS and dedicated hosting
These provide different levels of isolation and control. A criticism of shared hosting should not be generalized to GoDaddy’s entire infrastructure portfolio.
What GoDaddy actually costs
GoDaddy’s U.S. Web Hosting page displayed the following prices when checked on August 18, 2026. The promotional monthly figures applied to the first three-year term, not a month-to-month contract.

| Shared plan | Introductory price | Displayed regular price | Websites | Storage | SSL shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Economy | $5.99/month for the first 36-month term | $11.99/month | 1 | 25 GB NVMe | Free for 1 year |
| Deluxe | $7.99/month for the first 36-month term | $16.99/month | 10 | 50 GB NVMe | Free, unlimited |
| Ultimate | $12.99/month for the first 36-month term | $21.99/month | 25 | 75 GB NVMe | Free, unlimited |
GoDaddy’s Web Hosting page also advertises unmetered bandwidth, automatic daily backups, a 99.9% uptime guarantee, 24/7 support, a free domain and free email on Economy. Availability can vary by country, currency, billing term, campaign, account status, taxes and add-ons, so treat these as observed prices rather than guaranteed future invoices.
The three-year arithmetic
At the displayed introductory rates, the first-term hosting charges would be $215.64 for Economy, $287.64 for Deluxe and $467.64 for Ultimate before taxes and extras. At the displayed regular rates, a hypothetical 36-month period would total $431.64, $611.64 and $791.64 respectively. Those calculations illustrate the renewal exposure; they are not promises about a future invoice.
Managed WordPress has a different price ladder
| Managed WordPress plan | Introductory price | Renewal price | Initial sites | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | $6.99/month for the first one-year term | $14.99/month | 1 | 10 GB NVMe |
| Deluxe | $10.99/month for the first one-year term | $19.99/month | 1 | 20 GB NVMe |
| Ultimate | $14.99/month for the first one-year term | $26.99/month | 3 | 30 GB NVMe |
These managed WordPress figures come from a 2026 independent test, which states that the introductory rate covered one year and the renewal rate applied from the second term. Check GoDaddy’s own checkout for the current offer before ordering.
Why I would avoid GoDaddy shared hosting
1. The low price is a commitment, not a flexible monthly deal
A $5.99 monthly equivalent sounds inexpensive until you discover that it is tied to 36 months paid in advance. That creates a switching cost before you have tested support, performance, backups or WordPress compatibility. Compare the total checkout charge and the renewal figure, not only the number beside “per month.”

- NIGHTHAWK WIFI 6 ROUTER FOR YOUR WHOLE HOME: Delivers fast, reliable WiFi across every room of your apartment or small home for streaming, gaming, video calls, and smart home devices, all running at the same time without slowing each other down.
- WORKS WITH YOUR EXISTING INTERNET SERVICE: Pairs with your existing modem or gateway via ethernet. Compatible with most cable, fiber, DSL, and satellite providers. Some gateways and modem router combos may require bridge mode. No coax needed.
- SET UP AND MANAGE YOUR NETWORK WITH THE NIGHTHAWK APP: Download the free Nighthawk app on iOS or Android for guided setup. Manage WiFi, run speed tests, pause devices, and set up guest networks from anywhere. Active internet required.
- READY FOR THE DEVICES YOU ALREADY OWN: Your phones, laptops, and TVs work right out of the box. WiFi 6 delivers speeds up to 1.8 Gbps across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. Backward compatible with WiFi 5 and earlier.
- COVERAGE IN EVERY ROOM: Covers up to 1,500 sq. ft. for up to 20 connected devices. Walls, floors, and interference can reduce range. Larger or multi-story homes may benefit from a NETGEAR Orbi mesh WiFi system.
2. Economy has the least attractive package
One site and 25 GB is enough for a small brochure site, but the allowance can become tight once you add image libraries, staging copies and backups. Deluxe costs more but raises the site count to 10, storage to 50 GB and SSL to unlimited, making Economy a poor value for anyone expecting to host more than one site.
3. SSL and security are easy to misunderstand
The shared-hosting table shows Economy SSL as free for one year, while Deluxe and Ultimate show unlimited SSL. GoDaddy also documents AutoSSL for cPanel hosting, which can automatically assign and renew a Sectigo DV certificate while the hosting remains current. The practical issue is clarity: confirm whether AutoSSL covers your exact domain and provisioning path rather than assuming every “free SSL” label means the same thing.
GoDaddy advertises automatic daily backups and recovery of the previous day’s hosting account. It also promotes a Web Application Firewall, CDN, daily malware scanning and continuous monitoring, but describes Website Security as a 30-day trial on Web Hosting plans and as included with Managed Hosting for WordPress. A daily backup is not a long retention history or point-in-time recovery, and malware scanning is not malware removal. Ask how many restore points exist and keep an independent off-site copy.
4. Entry-tier performance is not established by a cached homepage
TechRadar gave the lowest shared plan it tested a 4.2/10 performance score in its 2026 hands-on article and described the result as disappointing. That is evidence about the tested configuration, not every GoDaddy server.

The more favorable managed WordPress test covered July 3, 2025 through July 3, 2026. It reported 99.99% uptime, 344 ms average response time, 37 minutes of downtime across five outages, a 35 ms average load-test response time and 75 ms cached global time to first byte. Its WPBenchmark hardware score was 3.8/10. In other words, caching and edge delivery were strong while underlying CPU and application capacity looked comparatively weak.
These findings are not contradictory. A cached public page can be quick while an uncached logged-in request, PHP execution, database query or WordPress administration task struggles. For a store or busy business site, test dynamic pages and concurrent requests, not just a cache-friendly homepage.
5. Important WordPress and developer features are tier-gated
Managed WordPress includes preinstallation, automatic core updates, daily backups and security functions. Comparative 2026 coverage reports that the entry plan has 10 GB storage and lacks CDN and staging; WooCommerce is restricted to Ultimate. The Ultimate tier reportedly adds Git integration, PHP version control, Object Cache Pro, application performance monitoring, core-version controls and a smart plugin manager. GoDaddy therefore does offer developer features, but the least expensive plans are not designed for demanding workflows.
6. Moving away takes more than copying a folder
A WordPress migration can involve the database, serialized URLs, DNS, SSL, cron jobs, PHP version, redirects, forms, analytics and email records. Three years of prepaid hosting can encourage a buyer to tolerate a poor fit rather than move. Maintain your own backup and documentation from the first day.

Uptime, support and ease of use
GoDaddy advertises a 99.9% uptime guarantee for Web Hosting. A guarantee is a contractual threshold or service-credit mechanism, while the 99.99% result above is one observer’s measurement of one managed WordPress setup over one year. Neither measures database slowness, PHP errors or failed cron jobs.
GoDaddy advertises phone, chat and SMS support and says its organization includes more than 3,500 experts in over 20 countries. Independent coverage finds routine account and setup help accessible, but complex technical assistance less impressive. That distinction matters: an agent may help point a domain or reset access without diagnosing a slow query, plugin conflict or server resource ceiling.
Is managed WordPress worth considering?
It is the GoDaddy product I would examine before rejecting the company outright. Automatic WordPress management, backups and included security reduce routine administration, and the long-term uptime and cached-delivery results in the independent test were good. The trade-off is 10–30 GB storage, limited initial site counts and higher prices at the tiers where staging, CDN, WooCommerce and advanced tools become relevant.
Choose it only after confirming staging, SSH, Git, WP-CLI, PHP-version selection, object caching, application monitoring, plugin restrictions and the cost of additional sites. If those are essential, compare a managed WordPress specialist rather than assuming the entry plan will grow with you.
Recommended Free Tools
Who should still use GoDaddy?
- A simple brochure or portfolio site with modest traffic.
- A beginner who strongly prefers phone support and one account for domains, hosting and email.
- A customer willing to pay for Deluxe, Ultimate or a suitable managed WordPress tier after checking renewal pricing.
- A site where convenience matters more than maximum uncached performance or advanced deployment workflows.
Who should choose something else?
- A business that depends on fast dynamic WordPress or WooCommerce requests.
- A buyer seeking short commitments and predictable long-term cost.
- Someone hosting several sites cheaply on one account.
- A developer who needs staging, Git, SSH, WP-CLI, selectable PHP versions or observability at the entry tier.
- A business that cannot afford ambiguity around security coverage, restores or migration.
Alternatives by priority
| Priority | Option and observed pricing signal | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Budget-oriented general hosting | Hostinger: TechRadar listed plans from $2.99/month, renewing at $16.99/month, subject to its offer and terms. | Less emphasis on high-end phone support or guaranteed dedicated resources. |
| Clear WordPress-oriented package | DreamHost: August 2026 promotion showed $1.99, $3.49 and $7.99 monthly rates for the first four years, renewing at $7.99, $8.99 and $19.99; daily backups and unlimited SSL were shown. | Users who require traditional cPanel may prefer another host. |
| Managed small-business platform | SiteGround: TechRadar listed GrowBig at $4.99/month for the first year, renewing at $29.99/month. | Polished managed tooling, but a much higher renewal price. |
| Beginner WordPress onboarding | Bluehost: WordPress-focused setup, automatic core updates, caching and WooCommerce integration are noted by Tom’s Guide. | Daily backups may require an upgrade or add-on on some plans. |
| High-touch managed WordPress | WP Engine, Kinsta, Pressable or Rocket.net. | Higher prices make sense mainly for revenue-generating, agency or publishing sites. |
How to leave GoDaddy safely
- Export the WordPress files and database, and download a separate copy of
wp-content. - Record DNS records, email settings, redirects, cron jobs, PHP version and plugin configuration.
- Open the new hosting account and restore the site there.
- Test with a temporary URL or hosts-file override before changing public DNS.
- Lower DNS TTL before the cutover when your provider allows it.
- Recreate mailboxes and copy MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records.
- Switch DNS to the new host and issue the new SSL certificate.
- Check HTTPS, redirects, forms, checkout, analytics, scheduled jobs and transactional email.
- Keep GoDaddy active until the new site and email work reliably.
- Disable auto-renewal and cancel only after the migration is verified and your independent backups are safe.
Final verdict
GoDaddy is adequate when recognizable branding, easy setup and broad support matter more than technical value. I would avoid its entry-level shared-hosting offer for a serious long-term WordPress or small-business site because the three-year price anchor, renewal economics, tiered security, limited resources and uneven performance evidence make better alternatives easier to justify. GoDaddy’s managed WordPress plans deserve a separate evaluation, especially Deluxe or Ultimate, but they should be compared on dynamic performance, included tools and renewal cost—not on the promotional monthly number alone.
